This article discusses basic copyright issues and resources in order to provide the tools librarians need to develop their own institutional copyright policies. The relevant laws are discussed including the legal rights given to copyright holders (§106), the limitations on these rights ( §107, §108, §110), and the DMCA. The four criteria for a fair use analysis (§107) are covered as well as the pros and cons of the established fair use guidelines. Special library exemptions and problems are explained for Interlibrary Loan, unsupervised patron copying, archives and copying and viewing videos.

C.S. Lewis' beloved Narnia has withstood the attack of the White Witch (aka Queen Jadis) from within and the Calormenes from without, but can it stand against modern publishing giant HarperCollins? This question in various forms has been voiced in the New York Times, Atlantic Monthly and Christianity Today. So let's just get the facts out into the light of day and decide for ourselves. But those facts are shrouded in a fog that would rival any to be found in Narnia.

The Lifelong Learning and Library Connection as a model for tertiary library customer education examined the transitional skill and ability expectations of undergraduate tertiary education students to propose a Perceptual Model of lifelong learning as an alternative to behavioural and relational models which are more experientially or practice based. The Jessie C. Eury Library of Lincoln Christian College and Seminary (Lincoln, IL) is proud of the "Hymnals of the Stone-Campbell Movement: Enos E. Dowling Hymnal Collection" on its website at www.lccs.edu/library/hymnals.

This online collection of more than 9,000 hymns from rare 19th century hymnals features works by Alexander Campbell, J.T. Johnson, Walter Scott, and Illinois residents such as Barton W. Stone, Silas W. Leonard, and the Fillmore Brothers. These hymnals were selected from some 2,000 gathered by Mr. Dowling, former academic dean at Lincoln Christian Seminary, throughout his lifetime, including nearly 200 affiliated with the Restoration Movement that arose …

The Core Virtue Of Christian Librarianship, Gregory A. Smith

Christian librarians should derive their professional ethics from methodical exegesis of the Bible. The New Testament's most salient ethical statements center on love-for God, neighbor, and fellow believers. Each of these has significant implications for library practice. Identifying love as the core virtue of librarianship represents a radical departure from secular approaches to library ethics. While the biblical and secular models converge on some significant points, they are fundamentally opposite. Where the two reach similar conclusions, the biblical model proves to be more philosophically consistent. The Scriptures speak with enduring relevance to the issues facing librarians.

There are thousands of statistical reports proving that by next September we will be so computerized and digitized that we will not have to go to school or work anymore. Math, spelling, geography, shopping, banking-it's all in the computer and on the web. All that will be left to us is to eat pizza and watch DVDs. Well, maybe there aren' t thousands of reports, but there are a lot, like, maybe three. OK, so I didn't actually see any reports myself, but the guys who hang at Harvey's Hardware know these things.
