Many library publishing programs emerged from institutional repositories. This close relationship has led to the emergence of content platforms that are designed to operate under either use case, however, the missions and requirements of the two types of program differ. A repository for example, may be primarily concerned with the curation, preservation, and accessibility of their institution’s academic output whilst publishers must also concern themselves with external discoverability, search engine optimization, getting indexed in abstract databases and marketing their journals. Clemson’s Department of English is hosting its 8th Annual Literary Festival Wednesday, March 25th through Friday, March 27th.
Selected works from the fourteen authors attending the festival – including Emporium, The Orphan Master’s Son, and Parasites like Us by Pulitzer Prize winner Adam Johnson – have been pulled and placed on display atop the TAPS shelving on the 4th floor of Cooper Library. The display books are available for checkout and will be up throughout the month.

Since 2012, nearly every sector has developed a fascination with the seemingly new discovery of Big Data and its unprecedented capabilities to fuel analytic breakthroughs. It is clear that the use of Big Data as an information resource will continue to become more prevalent as it is employed in academic research and data-driven decision making, and even emerges as a vehicle for government transparency. As the needs of academic library users evolve, so must the ways that librarians chose to interact with those users. A great deal of energy has been spent focusing on the first-year student in the university setting, but is this the best focal point for instructional efforts? After an extensive brainstorming session, the librarians at Clemson University decided to refocus time and energy from the first-year students to upper-class students and faculty.
