Migration To Alma/Primo: A Case Study Of Central Washington University, Ping Fu, Julie Carmen

This paper describes how Central Washington University Libraries (CWUL) interacted and collaborated with the Orbis Cascade Alliance (OCA) Shared Integrated Library System’s (SILS) Implementation Team and Ex Libris to process systems and data migration from Innovative Interfaces Inc.’s Millennium integrated library system to Alma/Primo, Ex Libris’ next-generation library management solution and discovery and delivery solution. A chronological review method was used for this case study to provide an overall picture of key migration events, tasks, and implementation efforts, including pre-migration cleanup, migration forms, integration with external systems, testing, cutover, post-migration cleanup, and reporting and fixing outstanding issues. This presentation will elaborate what configuration and steps should be set up in Primo Back Office in order to harvest local digital repositories such as bepress Digital commons, and talk about what lessons and experiences we have learned through the process. As a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, CWU moved to Alma/Primo from III’s Millennium on Dec 18, 2014. This presentation describes how we prepared pre-migration clean up, how we organized and conducted testing, and how we prepared for cutover. This presentation will also share how we worked collaboratively with the vendors, the Orbis Cascade Alliance Implementation Team, and the university IT. The key elements to make the migration successful such as project management, team work, proactive participation, and communication will be addressed.

Migrating To Alma: The Changing Role Of The Systems Librarian, Ping Fu

This presentation will discuss how the roles of systems librarians are expected to change in migrating to Alma from other ILS systems such as Voyager or Aleph. Since Alma is deployed via cloud computing, Ex Libris will centrally implement applications, upgrades, enhancements, etc. Consequently, the roles and responsibilities of systems librarians will be changing, and systems librarians should re-engineer themselves accordingly so that they will be able to support more critical issues in the library.

Streaming The Archives: Repurposing Systems To Jumpstart A Media Digitization Program, Talea Anderson

Presenting lessons learned by the archives at Central Washington University during the first year of its new media digitization program. This poster, presented in 2015 at ACRL's national conference, demonstrates how the archives jumpstarted its program by using available systems--an institutional repository and cloud-based streaming service--to disseminate digitized media. The poster presents advantages and disadvantages uncovered while using these repurposed systems, including consequences for metadata, workflow, interoperability, and discoverability.

File Naming In Digital Media Research: Examples From The Humanities And Social Sciences, Jerome W. Crowder, Jonathan S. Marion, Michele Reilly

This paper identifies organizational challenges faced by Social Science and Humanities (SSH) scholars when dealing with digital data and media, and suggests improved file naming practices in order to maximize organization, making files easier to find, more useable, and more easily shared. We argue that such skills are not formally discussed in the literature and therefore many scholars do not recognize the problem until they cannot locate a specific file or are sharing files with colleagues. We asked SSH scholars to share their file naming strategies (or lack thereof ) and we use these narrative anecdotes to discuss common problems …
