Objective In 2014, the Preston Medical Library underwent a radical change, moving from an academic office building to the main floor of a regional medical center. While the library previously served the public, health information requests have substantially increased in volume due to the new location. Each health information request is logged with the subject nature and patron contact information. Diversifying librarianship has been a strategic priority for years yet statistically the profession remains largely white. A contributing factor to this homogeneity is likely implicit bias. An implicit bias occurs when an individual has attitudes toward a group of people or associate stereotypes with them without their conscious knowledge. Growing research indicates that implicit biases impact the decisions that we all make daily. In libraries, it impacts who gets hired, who gets supported, which programs get funded, and which services are offered. Objective: LGBTQ+ people experience health disparities compared to heterosexual, cisgender peers. Individual and systemic barriers produce these disparities. One barrier is informational, as LGBTQ+ people experience challenges when learning about their health needs, navigating the healthcare system, and overcoming obstacles to care. This paper investigates the future of libraries and the health sciences by exploring how they can address these informational barriers.

TITLE: Designing a Poster-to-Publication Campaign for Medical Residents

OBJECTIVE: To describe the development of a campaign to improve medical residents’ knowledge of the research and publication process while providing support in transforming poster presentations into peer-reviewed publications.

METHODS: Medical residents at a public research university complete poster presentation projects as part of the standard residency curriculum, but few go on to expand upon and publish this research in academic journals. Objective: Public libraries are known for being community-centered institutions providing equitable access to information and resources, playing an important role in improving individuals' access to health-related information. This project aimed to examine the perceived role and current practices of inner-city public librarians in delivering health-related information to members of their community.

Objective:

This study uses survey research methods to gain a deeper understanding of the institutional repository (IR) landscape in medical schools and academic health centers.

Methods:

Members of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) were surveyed about their IRs. The authors used a mixed-methods approach of a survey and qualitative content analysis to identify common themes.

Results:

Survey results indicate that a large majority of responding medical schools and academic health centers have or are implementing an IR (35 out of 50, 70%). Of these, 60% (21 institutions) participate in an institution-wide IR rather than administer their own …

A 6-12 months retrospective study is made of HAART utilization in cases of HIV/AIDS patients at Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Nigeria. The objective to evaluate the rational pharmacotherapeutic approach to the management of the retroviral disease. Sixty two (62) antiretroviral drug-naive HIV/AIDS patients, which comprise of (19) 30.65% males with a mean age of 37.15±8.55 years and (43) 69.35% females with a mean age of 35.68±9.75 years case files are reviewed. In January 2018, the ACRL Health Sciences Interest Group (HSIG) convened a working group to revise the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Nursing (2013) into a Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education for Nursing. For nearly two years, the working group has conducted research to understand how nursing faculty integrate information literacy instruction in nursing education. Results from a review of the literature and surveying of nursing faculty at nine higher education institutions suggest that a majority of nursing faculty are unaware of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education but are intentional in using the …
