The researcher is conducting research on the brain cells of drosophila larvae. Specifically, the goal is to sort nuclei from glial and neuronal cells from the brains of mutant and wild type drosophila larvae. She will do transcriptome and high throughput ChIP-seq analysis on the cell nuclei to examine the distribution of complexes that modify histones and how loss of those complexes affects transcription. The stages of her research involve a long period of methodology development, a shorter data collection period, and then data analysis. This was a plenary presentation given at the XXIV IAALD World Congress on July 22, 2013, at Cornell University. It described international information literacy policy with examples from different countries and organizations. It clarified definitions of information literacy and policy; discussed information policy in relation to global challenges; and addressing the challenges.

The pedigree chart is a cornerstone technology for producing bodies and value in livestock pure breeding. It organizes a cluster of processes, technologies, and discourses gathered under the rubric “pedigree practices.” Angus breeders commonly use artificial insemination to import performance “genetics” into their herds, using the “expected progeny differences” predicted by massive pedigree databases that now also contain phenotype data reported by cattle growers. Discourses of biological inheritance, good breeding, and pedigrees arose in the eighteenth century, concomitant with a fascination with races, species, and other biological kinds. The Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL), created in 2006, is the result of a collaboration of ten natural history museum and botanical garden libraries seeking to digitize core taxonomic literature and to make it free and openly available throughout the world. Today, the BHL includes fifteen member institutions whose efforts have shaped a collection of over 60,000 titles. It is supported through a combination of membership dues, in-kind support from member institutions, contributions from the user community, and direct support from the Smithsonian Institution Libraries, and it reaches tens of thousands of users each year. These guidelines present updated policies and procedures for submitting scientific manuscripts for consideration for publication in The Prairie Naturalist (PNAT). These guidelines incorporate substantial changes that have occurred following a change in Editorial staff during January 2009, and update the online “Suggestions for Contributors” guidelines provided on the PNAT website (http://www.sdstate.edu/nrm/organizations/gpnss/tpn/index.cfm); these instructions supersede all previous guidelines.

Biodiversity, a contraction of the phrase "biological diversity," was first used by Walter G. Rosen during a planning meeting for the 1986 National Forum on BioDiversity held in Washington, DC, while the first appearance of the word in the print literature likely occurred with the 1988 publication of the proceedings of this conference (Hawksworth 1995). The term "biodiversity" first appeared in the Biodiversity Web Resources http://www.istl.org/12-fall/internet.html 1 of 15 3/11/14 11:26 AM BIOSIS database in 1988 with four references, but by April of 1994 the count of citations had increased to 888 (Hawksworth 1995).
