In 2007, the author examined existing academic libraries in the United States to determine best practices for the design, implementation and service of learning commons facilities. A primary objective of this study was to discover how to create a higher education learning environment that sustains scholarship encourages collaboration and empowers student learning. This article explains how to plan for a modern learning commons and presents the various components that comprise the space.

Proposal For Library Staff Exchange With Southwest Jiao Tong University, Courtright Memorial Library

Otterbein China Librarians Exchange Program Documentations and Publications

In this memorandum to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the library director Lois Szudy and System Librarian Jane Wu propose a trial library staff exchange between Otterbein College and Southwest Jiao Tong University in Chengdu, China. Building upon a prior successful exchange with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, this initiative seeks to deepen our global academic collaborations.

The benefits of such exchanges are manifold, encompassing cooperative teaching and research, student and faculty exchanges, summer internships, and enrichment of global learning programs. These collaborations significantly contribute to Otterbein's international reputation and capacity to attract international students.

The University of Richmond (UR) is an independent, privately endowed institution, with a total student body of around 5,000 students. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered in the liberal arts, business, law, and leadership studies. Library instruction has been an integral part of the university libraries program since the 1970s, initiated by a five-year grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities College Library Program and the Council on Library Resources. The article reports on the expansion and renovation of Georgia Southern University's Henderson Library. The Zach S. Henderson Library has been the hub of academic life at Georgia Southern University for more than 30 years. The library has been the focus of an extensive expansion and renovation to help meet the needs of the university's growing student body.
