Scholarly Papers and Articles
This case study examines the process of creating an interactive and engaging lesson plan for the History of Science course, HSC 201: The Scientific Revolution. History of Science students tend to be undergraduates majoring in science or medical related fields, rather than the humanities, who need to fulfill an intensive writing or general education requirement. For most, if not all of them, this session would be the first time they experienced hands-on interaction with historical resources. Accordingly, the archivist sought to create a less traditional lesson plan that would foster a sense of fun and interest in the materials.

Information and communication technology has been proven by scholars globally to be a crucial factor in moderating and effecting the effectiveness and proficiency of administration worldwide. Almost all experts from all works of life have proven that innovative use of ICT is a welcome development and a call for eradicating maladministration of all sectors. Many international organizations, including UNESCO and other countries (Nigeria in particular), emphasized the importance of adopting the innovation of ICT to attend global standards of administration. This study examined the innovative use of information and communication technology for effective administration in Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo …

Imaging Politics And Professional Culture In Managing Islamic University Libraries In Indonesia, L. Nurdin, Sri Rohyanti Zulaikha
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The concept of imaging politics and professional culture are two approaches that influence and control each other in managing library performance. This research is conducted by initially looking at imaging politics that operates on aspects of academic qualifications, library accessibility, and institutional governance among three libraries. These institutional images are analyzed through three patterns of imaging politics, i.e. mirror of reality, map of reality, and simulacrum of reality, albeit this last pattern is not found. The second analysis is based on professional culture that functions as a ballacing system. Professional culture in library management shows itself as a referential standard …

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Presentations
A team of four people administers the UNL institutional repository (https://digitalcommons.unl.edu), which is one of the largest (109,000-plus full text items) and most-accessed (over 62,000,000 downloads) in the United States. The team also administers a robust library publishing program with over 80 scholarly monographs and 12 peer-reviewed journals. A recent focus of the program has been open educational resources, partnering with scholars to identify or create free online learning objects.
This talk will include details about how such a small team accomplishes so much. Staffing, task assignment, workflow, author relations, reader relations, education, administration, policy generation, platform management, …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The interest of the younger generation in Indonesia to pursue the world of films began to show an increase. Universities responded to the high interest by opening study programs in the field of film. This positive condition expects to expand further and deepen knowledge in the field of film that can be generated by research in the field of film. Therefore we need a mapping of the distribution of film research topics in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to examine trends in film research in Indonesia. The study underwent an analysis of several publications in indexing institutions. The …

Abstract
The primary purpose of this article is to do classification and thematic analysis of previous research on customer frustration using a systematic mapping study (SMS). The main research was carried out by combining automatic and manual search. The automatic search was through electronic journal database references: ProQuest Research Library, EBSCOhost: Academic Search Complete, Google Scholar, Emerald Insight and Scopus, while the manual one was performed on Google search with the snowball sampling method. A total of 28 studies on costumer frustration in the form of journal articles and proceedings were included in the inclusion criteria. The results of the …

University Libraries Librarian and Staff Presentations
Interactive session. Coming from architecture praxis and used in multiple design disciplines, a charrette is a structured period of intense feedback where participants work together to solve a design problem. The activity can easily be used by instructors to improve lesson plans or teaching artifacts in collaboration. Beginning with a warm-up practice activity where participants can learn how charrettes work, this session will primarily be comprised of focused small-group sharing, feedback, and brainstorming. Each participant should bring a lesson plan, teaching artifact, or other instructional challenge about which they would like to receive feedback. Small groups will be facilitated by …

Information Literacy As Structured Authoring, Robert Terry
Information Literacy As Structured Authoring, Robert Terry
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
By drawing on the early findings of an IRB-approved study, this presentation will discuss some challenges involved in teaching structured authoring, defined here as topic based authoring combined with an XML or XML-like structure. Since the late 1980s, Robert E. Horn and others referred to structured authoring/writing as a new paradigm that transforms the ways writers think about information usage, presentation, and structuring. Charlotte Robidoux (2007) and Sally Henschel (2010, 2014), among others, have explored how curriculums that taught structured authoring might help students begin to understand how the approach changes writing. However, as Joy Robinson et al (2019) demonstrated, …
Don't Google It! Appeal To Students' Passions To Inspire Information Literacy, Ellen B. Derwin Ph.D.
Don't Google It! Appeal To Students' Passions To Inspire Information Literacy, Ellen B. Derwin Ph.D.
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
Who doesn’t love Google? Yet in courses all across disciplines at colleges and universities, faculty struggle with assigning work that requires research. Why? Students immediately Google (or use another search engine) to seek information and often ignore requirements to seek information that is relevant, credible, accurate and evidence-based. Despite partnering with librarians, grading with information literacy as a high priority, and guiding students to seek appropriate sources, googling without critical thinking happens on a regular basis. At Brandman University, this frustration for faculty occurs throughout the curriculum, even in courses such as Critical Thinking, Student Success, and Information Literacy, which …

Archives And Stem: The Perfect Formula For Immersive Cross-Disciplinary Instruction., Dawn N. Cannon-Rech, Autumn Johnson
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
Reaching out to STEM Students beyond the one-shot requested instruction sessions is challenging. Creating faculty buy-in for non-traditional STEM instruction is doubly challenging. This poster will highlight a recent activity designed to draw STEM participation in utilizing a unique set of resources from the institution’s Archival Collections. Normally viewed as primarily relevant to history and humanities students, this collection provides the backbone for a fully immersive Escape Room Activity and exposure to primary sources normally not considered part of the normal STEM course work. The hands-on activity provides an opportunity for critical thinking, reflection, and teamwork. The poster will highlight …
We’Re Both Your Librarian: A Course Collaboration Between An Academic Library And A Health Sciences Library, Stephanie Evers Ard
We’Re Both Your Librarian: A Course Collaboration Between An Academic Library And A Health Sciences Library, Stephanie Evers Ard
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
The University of South Alabama is in the process of merging its academic library and health sciences library, which have previously functioned as essentially separate entities. This ongoing process requires many changes, from budget and staff considerations, to revisiting the roles the librarians play in their respective academic communities. This last concern led to a collaboration between two librarians--the Assistant Director for Strategic Initiatives at the health sciences library and the Social Sciences and Student Engagement Librarian at the academic library--in response to a faculty request for an embedded librarian to support a fully-online graduate nursing class in scholarly writing. …

The Afterlives Of Government Documents: Information Labor, Archival Power, And The Visibility Of U.S. Human Rights Violations In The “War On Terror”, Rachel Daniell
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This dissertation is about access to information.
It examines the different ways that access to U.S. government records related to the “War on Terror” is generated through the intersection of law, bureaucratic policy and procedure norms, and the everyday work of archivists and transparency advocates. I argue that, both through their labor pushing for access to government records via complex records searches, Freedom of Information Act requests, and legal action, and also through their labor layering those records with new forms of metadata in public digital circulation platforms, these individuals, in the context of their organizations, generate new forms of …
