Cyberbullying consequences are increasingly turning tragic with the victims committing suicide. Cyberbullying is carried out through computer mediated communication and due to public nature of social media platforms, it is natural to believe any number of individuals are witnessing any and all acts of communication. This becomes especially problematic during cyberbullying encounters because the victim is vulnerable to hurtful communication from anyone who views the attack. This qualitative study investigated how and to what extent dialogue can serve to increase women’s sense of satisfaction with their bodies. It is based on Martin Buber’s philosophy of “being” versus “seeming” in dialogue. Its theoretical basis consists of Cognitive Dissonance Theory, Coordinated Management of Meaning Theory, and Dialogism. For the research, two sessions of the Body Project’s Body Acceptance Class, a small-group discussion-based eating disorder prevention program, were facilitated. Participants were surveyed before and after to assess their levels of body satisfaction. This thesis is a qualitative, meta-analysis and philosophic study of spite. It attempts to answer the question: Does mirth require stigma, i.e., Can bootstrap heroism exist in an inclusive society? It is built upon the philosophical foundations of Aristotle, Sartre, Buber, and Friere and the communication theory of social identity. African Americans are commonly defined by artificial characteristics which portray them in restrictive roles. This is a result of media’s influence and the way its messages shape society. The Pennsylvania State University (PSU) has generated billions of dollars from collegiate licensing of products and corporate sponsorship due largely to the success of their football program. Therefore, significant economic consequences exist if the PSU brand sustains damage to its image and reputation. This thesis examines events and communication among key actors at PSU who had knowledge of allegations, or who were directly involved with the investigation of Jerry Sandusky, the former PSU football defensive coordinator, for improper sexual contact with minors dating back as far as 1998. Robert Greenleaf pioneered the concept of servant-leadership in his work Servant-Leadership in 1970. Since then, various essays, studies, and books have explored different aspects of Greenleaf's ideas. Larry Spears, building on Greenleaf's work, presented his well-known and often used ten characteristics of servant-leadership. Throughout the refinement of the articulation of servant-leadership, difficult questions addressing how servants lead in situations of violence, coercive power, and aggression have arisen. Although empirical data supporting the significance of servant-leadership abounds, in practice it is often an intangible art, a carefully executed dance of persuasion and stewardship, of empathy and healing, woven together with grace and humility. Nationally, minority- and women-owned businesses suffer inequity in the construction marketplace(Blanchflower2008; Bloch 2003). In a world where the "good old boys" network can dominate the bidding and awarding of contracts, it may seem overwhelming for a small, private, faith-based nonprofit to seriously consider making an impact on the contract-awarding process. After an analysis of this case study using Spear's (2004) servant-leadership framework, we conclude that the Salvation Army created an impact, with millions in contract dollars going to unlikely candidates to serve its mission and promote community transformation.

In the United States, educational quality varies widely across school districts. For decades, many Americans have questioned education quality (Pulliam and Patten 2007; Urban and Wagoner 2009; Webb 2006). This project sought to understand how individuals establish credibility online through impression management strategies. Applying Goffman’s (1959) impression management theory, the literature review highlighted four leading self-presentation tactics that bolster credibility effectively on the Internet: structure and aesthetics of personal websites, publication of content that is consistent, insightful and authentic, the use of self-disclosure, and verification of expertise through testimonials and references. These four self-presentation strategies were applied to analyze eight entrepreneurs who have successfully built a credible presence online. Individuals who are developmentally disabled and nonverbal, possessing little if any symbolic expressive or receptive language, are virtually invisible in the United States. This study presupposes that all persons, including those who are nonverbal and/or developmentally disabled, have a unique “voice” and contribution to the communication practices of humanity and society. This philosophical study analyzes the qualities of communication of developmentally disabled, nonverbal individuals and their communication partners through the lens of Martin Buber’s dialogic philosophy.
