The Mongolian-German Biological Expedition worked in 2014 from 31.07 until 05.08. in the West- Mongolian National Park Tavan Bogd with the lakes Choton-nuur, Churgan-nuur and Dajan-nuur. Within this very short time were recorded the Insectivora Sorex caecutiens and Sorex tundrensis. In addition, the Chiroptera Plecotus ognevi and Myotis petax were collected. A nursery roost of Myotis petax in a tree cave (Larix sibirica) was analyzed. From the genus Clethrionomys the species C. rutilus and C. rufocanus were caught. Two Microtus species, M. gregalis and M. oeconomus were collected. The reproductive state of all caught animals was determined. …

Migration data for Mongolian bird species are relative rare in the literature. Here are summarized observations of a travel in the Transaltaigobi 25.09.–12.10.2017. There are data for 56 species, 26 Nonpasseriformes and 30 Passeriformes. Main visited localities were for few days the oasis Echijn-gol and the mountain areas of Cagaan Bogd and Tost-uul. For some species are given the latest autumn observations.

We sampled 99 plots in three locations in the West, South and East Khentey, each consisted of both pitfall traps and soil and litter sampling. We were able to establish the occurrence of ten species of Chilopoda from three genera, three families and three orders and three species of Diplopoda also from three genera, three families and three orders in the Khentey Mountain region. Am 15.06.2019 vollendete sich nach langer schwerer Krankheit der Lebenszyklus von Mathias Kiefer. Seiner Frau und seinem Sohn Daniel sind wir für wertvolle Daten aus der Vita des Verstorbenen zu großem Dank verbunden. Mathias Kiefer wurde am 25. März 1943 im slowakischen Kežmarok geboren, wo er auch seine Schulausbildung erhielt. Von 1961 bis 1966 erfolgte an der Naturwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Comenius-Universität von Bratislava sein Biologiestudium, das er mit dem Diplom (Fachrichtung Parasitologie) abschloss.

Dezember 1930 im niederschlesischen Görlitz als einziges Kind des Kaufmanns Fritz Hanelt und seiner Ehefrau Margarete geboren. Früh wurde Peter in die Unternehmungen der Eltern im Kanusportverband und im Wanderverein einbezogen, die bald seine Begeisterung weckten. Der Vater nahm ihn schon als Schüler mit zu Vorträgen in das Görlitzer Naturkundemuseum. The first record of Streptopelia decaocto in Mongolia was noticed 1988 in the Dzungarian Gobi, Somon Bulgan, by the Mongolian-German Biological Expedition. In the last 30 years, this bird species has settled nearly all suitable habitats, so parks in the cities and Somon centres, river valleys and in the arid zone, the sajrs with elm trees or poplars as well as in some oases.

The genera Corvonirmus Eichler, 1944 (with 11 spp.), Hecatrishula Gustafsson & Bush, 2017 (with 8 spp.), and Lycocoranirmus Mey, 2017 (with 5 spp.), which belong to the Brueelia complex (Philopteridae s. l.), are morpho-structurally characterized mainly by head structures and chaetotaxy. They are defined as a group of related taxa that should be placed in the rank of a subfamily (Corvonirminae subfam. nov.) if the former Brueeliinae sensu EICHLER (1963:177) would get the status of a separate family (Brueeliidae).

Minding Other People's Business: Community Attachment And Anticipated Negative Emotion In An Extended Norm Activation Model, Sonny Rosenthal, Kang Leng Ho

This study extended the norm activation model in the context of litter reduction to explain self-managing (e.g., avoiding littering) and other-managing (e.g., picking up litter) behaviors. Although those kinds of behaviors are conceptually distinct, prior research has not explained differences in their prediction. This study addresses that gap by considering the roles of community attachment and anticipated negative emotion in other-managing behavior. The addition of those predictors creates a second explanatory pathway in the norm activation model. Results showed awareness of consequences, ascription of responsibility, and community attachment predicted personal norm (R2 = 0.54), which predicted self-managing behavior (R2 = …

The conclusion to the book situates the chapters within four programs of anthropological research on climate change: (1) documentation of local impacts of and adaptations to climate change, (2) connections to socioeconomic and political contexts, (3) collaborations with nonanthropologists, and (4) activism and social transformation. The final section notes the persistent challenges to creating positive change and meaningful research outcomes. It highlights some examples of success and outlines future directions for politically engaged anthropological work around climate change.

This thesis explores the social movements and civil society activism to protect the rivers that flow through Bangladesh—the cradle and terminal delta floodplain of the transboundary Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna river systems—, as well as ways to build regional cooperation and watershed democracy in South Asia. The research drew on four overarching fields of study: environmental justice, southern environmentalism, ecological nationalism, and environmental governance. Many cynics of the universality of international human rights point to persistent large-scale human-rights abusing regimes, such as the Democratic Republic of North Korea, as proof that there is nothing at all universal about human rights. This essay is an attempt to root out the implications of internal national policies on the suitability of international human rights whilst reinforcing their universality. In response to international pressure, Japan adopted the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Parental Abduction in April 2014. Beyond metropolises and within transnational contexts, investigating hybridity discourses is long overdue. This article argues that the epistemic violence embedded in such discourse has grave implications for the very impoverished nations and peoples with whom it claims solidarity and that, because this discourse is trendy in academia, its service to neoliberal capitalism is both easy to miss and important to expose. The last large scale practice of falconry that uses Golden Eagles takes place in Bayan- Ulgii, Mongolia. Recent media exposure allowed for the development of a tourism industry in the region that culminates in two annual festivals celebrating the cultural heritage. Modern eagle falconry practices have been shown to deviate from traditional hunting and training methods. While Golden Eagles are listed with a regional conservation status of Least Concern by the Mongolian Red List, these new practices place the health of Golden Eagle populations in the region at risk, especially as tourism continues to grow. Millets from the Margins: Value, Knowledge and the Subaltern Practice of Biodiversity in Uttarakhand, India analyzes what is at stake for small-scale, predominantly women, farmers as local varieties of rainfed food grains such as finger millet are being newly commodified and valued as a biodiversity resource. With support from a Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant from the National Science Foundation, I conducted seventeen months of ethnographic research with farmers, activists, scientists, NGO leaders, government officials, transnational functionaries and agribusiness representatives in segregated yet interconnected realms ranging from a village in the Himalayan foothills to transnational institutions in Rome.

The new essential oil-Endemic and sub endemic plants in Outer Mongolian Gobi were isolated by hydro distillation from the aerial parts of Brachanthemum gobicum Krasch, B. mongolicum Krach, B. mongolorum Grub., Asterothamnus centrali-asiaticus Novopork, A. molliusculus Novopork., Ajania trifida (Turcz) Tzvel, A. achilleoides (Turcz) Tzvel., Ferula ferulaeoides (Stend) Eug. Kor., Artemisia davajamczii Darijima., A. caespitosa Ldb, A. subchrysolepis Filat, A. schischkinii Krasch, A.intricata Franch, A.ordasica Krasch, A.gobica (Krasch) Grub., A. sphalerocephala Krasch that grown in wild in Outer Mongolian Gobi. The essential oils were analyzed by a combination of Capillary GC and GC-MS and their main constituents were described.

A new comprehensive checklist of Mongolian vascular plant families includes descriptions of all accepted plant families, each with a basionym, homonym, and full list of synonyms. The list is a completely revised update of GUBANOV’s conspectus (1996) of the Mongolian flora. The currently list covers a total of 3,113 species, subspecies and 683 genera, 112 families of vascular plants, belonging to 39 orders, 14 classes or clades and 5 divisions of the vascular plants in the flora of Mongolia.

In the present study, we investigated morphological variation of Mesobuthus eupeus mongolicus (Birula, 1911) in Mongolia. Samples were collected in 16 sites located in the provinces Bayankhongor, Khovd, Dundgovi, Dornogovi, Govisümber and Ömnögovi. Statistical analyses (Kruska-Wallis one-way ANOVA, PCA and hierarchical cluster analysis) showed that (a) morphologically the M. e. mongolicus males sampled in Dundgovi, Dornogovi, Govisümber and Ömnögovi were similar to each other, while the populations of Bayankhongor and Khovd were differentiated, and (b) the females from Bayankhongor, Dundgovi, Dornogovi, Govisümber and Ömnögovi had a similar morphology, while the population from Khovd was differentiated.
