A Descriptive Model Of The Sweet Corn And Pea Processing Industry Of Southern Minnesota, David P. Brennan

This research project was initiated to construct and test a model of the sweet corn and pea processing industry of Minnesota. The model is a composite abstract consisting of several basic theories of general application and several hypotheses which were formulated to consider the unique properties associated with sweet corn and pea processing. These are related to the agricultural and industrial factors which are inseparable parts of sweet corn and pea processing. Some Interpretations Of A Map On Minnesota Sawmilling, Lyda Belthuis

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

Sawmilling in Minnesota started about the time of settlement and, until 1870, mainly consisted of small mills located in the southern half of the state. Mills along the Mississippi River were mainly in urban centers while the remainder were scattered and associated with the clearing of the land and the meeting of the needs of local communities. After 1870, mills become larger. Many were constructed in northern Minnesota. All used forests in the northern port of the state and reduced them so greatly that, by 1920, the mills closed and were replaced by portable sawmills.

The purpose of this study was to trace the change in settlement patterns in an area located in the semiarid plateau region of Eastern Washington and to determine the cause of such a change. Little has been written about the settlement of this area. Therefore, an attempt has been made to learn what changes in settlement have been made and to explain them.

"The Valley Gravity Project Plan has been formulated to furnish an adequate and dependable irrigation water supply for fertile and productive area in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas, It would also provide drainage works, which would remove the threat of destruction of the economy of the area due to effects of a high water table and salt accumulations. The project works would permit generation of the maximum practicable amount of electrical energy which otherwise would be required to operate irrigation pumping plants. Other incidental benefits include fish and wildlife conservation, recreation and flood control."
