The main purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the existence of seasonality in monthly stock returns and the relationship between seasonal return and firm size effect in the Malaysian equity mark.et. The sample consists of six Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) sectoral indices and Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) for the period from January 1987 to December 2001. The main finding of the study is that seasonality according to the Gregorian calendar is present in the Malaysian stock market which is mainly manifested as a January effect. The development of Resource Based Industries (RBIs) in Malaysia since it was first launched in 1984 has seen as turning point of the industry to gain momentum in line with the corresponding industrial policy. By using the two inputs Cobb-Douglass model specifically growth accounting model, this study tries to estimate the total factor productivity (TFP) growth for the periods of 1981-1997 in collaboration to review its development and resilient performance. Using the 3-digit-level industrial classification, it was found that six (out of 14) of the RBIs show a positive gain of TFP growth. This study investigates the causal relations and dynamic interactions among stock prices, real interest rate, real money balances and real activity in Malaysia using monthly data from January 1987 to December 2001. This full sample period is also divided into two sub-periods for analysis. The first sub-period covers January 1987 to August 1998 while the second sub-period covers September 1998 to December 2001. The conventional unit root tests suggest that all variables are integrated of order one.
