Exploring The Relationship Between Agricultural Electricity Consumption And Output: New Evidence From Turkish Regional Data, Eyup Dogan, Maamar Sebri, Berna Turkekul

Maamar Sebri

This study investigates the relationship between agricultural electricity consumption and agricultural output for a panel of 12 regions of Turkey for the period 1995–2013. In order to reveal the possible heterogeneity between regions, empirical analyses are conducted for the whole panel data and two sub-groups within the panel data; namely, coastal regions and non-coastal regions. The results from several panel unit root tests indicate that electricity consumption and output are stationary process at their levels for overall panel and the two specific groups. By using the OLS with regional fixed effects, this study finds that coefficient estimate of electricity consumption …

A Multivariate Analysis Of The Causal Flow Between Renewable Energy Consumption And Gdp In Tunisia, Maamar Sebri, Ousama Ben-Salha Nov 2014

A Multivariate Analysis Of The Causal Flow Between Renewable Energy Consumption And Gdp In Tunisia, Maamar Sebri, Ousama Ben-Salha

Maamar Sebri

This paper examines the causality linkages between economic growth, renewable energy consumption, CO2 emissions and domestic investment in Tunisia between 1971 and 2010. Using the ARDL bounds testing approach to cointegration, long-run relationships between the variables are identified. On the other hand, the Granger causality analysis indicates that there is bi-directional causality between renewable energy consumption and economic growth, which supports the validity of the feedback hypothesis. In addition, the quantity of CO2 emissions collapses as a reaction to an increase in renewable energy consumption. These findings remain robust even when controlling for the presence of structural break. We conclude …

On The Causal Dynamics Between Economic Growth, Renewable Energy Consumption, Co2 Emissions And Trade Openness: Fresh Evidence From Brics Countries, Maamar Sebri Dec 2013

On The Causal Dynamics Between Economic Growth, Renewable Energy Consumption, Co2 Emissions And Trade Openness: Fresh Evidence From Brics Countries, Maamar Sebri

Maamar Sebri

The current study investigates the causal relationship between economic growth and renewable energy consumption in the BRICS countries over the period 1971–2010 within a multivariate framework. The ARDL bounds testing approach to cointegration and vector error correction model (VECM) are used to examine the long-run and causal relationships between economic growth, renewable energy consumption, trade openness and carbon dioxide emissions. Empirical evidence shows that, based on the ARDL estimates, there exist long-run equilibrium relationships among the competing variables. Regarding the VECM results, bi-directional Granger causality exists between economic growth and renewable energy consumption, suggesting the feedback hypothesis, which can explain …

Energy Consumption-Economic Growth Nexus: Does The Level Of Aggregation Matter?, Maamar Sebri, Mehdi Abid Dec 2011

Energy Consumption-Economic Growth Nexus: Does The Level Of Aggregation Matter?, Maamar Sebri, Mehdi Abid

Maamar Sebri

This study investigates the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic performance for the total economy as well as for industry, transport, and residential sectors for Tunisia during the period 1980-2007. The application of Vector error correction model (VECM) for non-stationary and cointegrated series suggests that causality directions at aggregated and disaggregated levels are mixed. However, the findings have important policy implications. While at the level of the total economy, energy plays an important role in development of Tunisian economy, it seems not to have an impact on economic performance at sectoral level. We conclude that results appear to be …

The Mediterranean Zone In Front Of Air Pollution: An Econometric Investigation, Maamar Sebri Jan 2009

The Mediterranean Zone In Front Of Air Pollution: An Econometric Investigation, Maamar Sebri

Maamar Sebri
