This thesis tried to describe the progress of growth and recession of the Thai economy during the “developmental era” of the 1950s to 2000s. The main objective of this thesis is to find Thailand’s Social Structure of Accumulation, using it to trace back to the “critical junctures” and then describe the trajectory of Thailand’s economic development. งานศึกษาชิ้นนี้ใช้กรอบแนวคิดเศรษฐศาสตร์สถาบันใหม่เป็นกรอบการวิเคราะห์ โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่ออธิบายถึงแนวคิดของรัฐต่อการกำหนดนโยบายด้านการให้ความคุ้มครองทางสังคมด้านสุขภาพ รวมถึงศึกษากระบวนการกำหนดนโยบายสาธารณะด้านการจัดการ ควบคุม และป้องกันการแพร่ระบาดของไวรัส โควิด-19 สำหรับกลุ่มแรงงานข้ามชาติ ผ่านการอธิบายถึงปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผู้มีส่วนร่วมในตลาดการเมืองของการกำหนดนโยบาย ได้แก่ อุปสงค์ (กลุ่มผลักดันเรียกร้องนโยบาย) และอุปทาน (กลุ่มมีอำนาจที่มีอิทธิพลในการตัดสินใจ) งานชิ้นนี้ใช้การรวบรวมและวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ร่วมการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกกับภาคส่วนที่เกี่ยวข้อง ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ภายใต้กระบวนการกำหนดนโยบาย ตัวแสดงในฝั่งอุปทานมีบทบาทสำคัญในการกำหนดทิศทางตั้งแต่การก่อตัว การตัดสินใจแบบรวมศูนย์ และนำนโยบายไปบังคับใช้ เนื่องจาก รัฐให้อำนาจและได้ใช้องค์ความรู้เฉพาะทางเป็นตัวชี้นำ ในขณะที่ตัวแสดงฝั่งอุปสงค์ยังต้องอยู่ภายใต้สภาวะพึ่งพิงจากรัฐ ทำให้ไม่มีส่วนร่วมในการกำหนดนโยบายในตอนต้น แต่กลุ่มดังกล่าวจะเริ่มมีบทบาทนำและพลังการต่อรองกับรัฐเพิ่มขึ้นในช่วงการสะท้อนกลับของนโยบาย จึงส่งผลลบต่อการกระจายทรัพยากร ก่อให้เกิดความเหลื่อมล้ำทางสุขภาพ และการเลือกปฏิบัติกับกลุ่มแรงงานข้ามชาติ รวมถึงต้นทุนธุรกรรม ทั้งนี้ การตัดสินใจเลือกนโยบายของกลุ่มอุปทานนโยบายเป็นผลโดยตรงจากโครงสร้างการให้คุณค่าของสถาบันไม่ทางการ (วัฒนธรรม ค่านิยม จารีตประเพณี) ที่ฝังลึกมีกรอบคิดและการให้คุณค่าที่ไม่สนับสนุนความเท่าเทียมเชิงสุขภาพของสถาบันทางการ ส่งผลให้แม้จะมีกฎ กติกา (สถาบันทางการ) ระบุถึงประเด็นด้านความเท่าเทียม แต่ในทางปฏิบัติ โดยเฉพาะในสถานการณ์ฉุกเฉิน ประสิทธิภาพของสถาบันในการจัดสรรทรัพยากรและการให้บริการด้านสาธารณสุขจึงสามารถไม่เป็นธรรมและมีความแตกต่างระหว่างแรงงานไทยกับแรงงานข้ามชาติตามการเลือกให้ความสำคัญกับกลุ่มคนซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่สังคมยอมรับได้ ข้อเสนอแนะสำหรับงานคือ เสนอให้ปรับเปลี่ยนกลไกทางสถาบันเพื่อให้เกิดความเสมอหน้าและปรับโครงสร้างให้สามารถรองรับกับวิกฤตทางสุขภาพในอนาคต

การศึกษาผลกระทบของการแพร่ระบาดของโควิด 19 ต่อแรงงานนอกระบบในตลาดแรงงานไทย, ภัณฑิลา ธนบูรณ์นิพัทธ์

งานวิจัยฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาผลกระทบของการแพร่ระบาดของโควิด 19 ต่อแรงงานนอกระบบในตลาดแรงงานไทย โดยจะแบ่งผลลัพธ์ของตลาดแรงงานเป็น 2 ตัว คือ ชั่วโมงการทำงานต่อวัน และค่าจ้างต่อวันของแรงงานนอกระบบ และทำการศึกษาผ่านการวิเคราะห์ด้วยเทคนิค Difference-in-Differences (DiD) Regression โดยการศึกษานี้แบ่งกลุ่มตัวอย่างออกเป็น 2 กลุ่มโดยใช้เกณฑ์ระดับความรุนแรงของการแพร่ระบาดของโควิด 19 ในระดับจังหวัดเป็นเกณฑ์ในการแบ่งกลุ่ม คือ กลุ่มทรีตเมนต์และกลุ่มเปรียบเทียบ และศึกษาผ่านตัวแปรควบคุม ประกอบด้วย ภาคที่อยู่อาศัย เขตการปกครอง อายุเพศ ระดับการศึกษา สถานภาพการสมรส สถานะการทำงาน ประเภทอาชีพ และประเภทอุตสาหกรรม การศึกษานี้ใช้ข้อมูลทุติยภูมิจากการสำรวจภาวะการทำงานของประชากร (Labor Force Survey: LFS) และการสำรวจแรงงานนอกระบบ พ.ศ. 2561 พ.ศ. 2562 และ พ.ศ. 2564 ที่จัดทำโดยสำนักงานสถิติแห่งชาติ ในส่วนของข้อมูลความรุนแรงของสถานการณ์โควิดระดับจังหวัด ใช้ข้อมูลจากประกาศคำสั่งการกำหนดเขตพื้นที่ตามสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโควิด 19 ตามคำสั่งศูนย์บริหารสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 เพื่อประเมินผลกระทบของการแพร่ระบาดของโควิด 19 ต่อแรงงานนอกระบบ สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ คือ สถิติเชิงพรรณนาและการวิเคราะห์ Difference-in-Differences (DiD) Regression โดยผลการวิจัย พบว่า การแพร่ระบาดของโควิด 19 นั้นส่งผลกระทบเชิงลบต่อค่าจ้างต่อวันและจำนวนชั่วโมงการทำงานต่อวันของแรงงานนอกระบบอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ โดย ค่าจ้างต่อวันของแรงงานนอกระบบในกลุ่มทรีตเมนต์ลดลงเฉลี่ย -53.97 บาท และ ชั่วโมงทำงานต่อวันของแรงงานนอกระบบในกลุ่มทรีตเมนต์ลดลงเฉลี่ย 0.09 ชั่วโมง (5.4 นาที) เมื่อเทียบกับแรงงานนอกระบบในกลุ่มเปรียบเทียบอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติระดับร้อยละ 1 และระดับร้อยละ 10 ตามลำดับ นอกจากนี้เมื่อพิจารณาถึงปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิผลต่อชั่วโมงการทำงานและค่าจ้างของแรงงานนอกระบบ พบว่า แรงงานนอกระบบที่ทำงานในกรุงเทพมหานครนั้นจะมีค่าจ้างต่อวันและชั่วโมงการทำงานต่อวันที่มากกว่าแรงงานนอกระบบในภูมิภาคอื่น ๆ แรงงานเพศหญิงจะมีค่าจ้างต่อวันและชั่วโมงการทำงานต่อวันที่น้อยกว่าแรงงานเพศชาย นอกจากนี้ในส่วนของระดับการศึกษา พบว่า ระดับการศึกษาของแรงงานมีความสัมพันธ์กับงานที่แรงงานทำ หากมีระดับการศึกษาที่สูงย่อมมีทางเลือกในการเลือกงานที่ทำที่มีระดับของค่าจ้างที่มากกว่าแรงงานที่มีการศึกษาต่ำกว่า เพราะแรงงานนอกระบบที่มีระดับการศึกษาไม่สูงมากอาจมีทางเลือกในการเลือกทำงานที่น้อยกว่า และงานอาจไม่ได้มีความมั่นคงมากนัก ซึ่งการศึกษาครั้งนี้จะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องโดยสามารถนำไปใช้เป็นแนวทางในการเตรียมพร้อมเพื่อรับมือกับโรคอุบัติใหม่ที่อาจเกิดขึ้นในอนาคต และสามารถใช้เป็นข้อมูลประกอบการกำหนดมาตรการ แผน และนโยบาย เพื่อยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตแรงงานนอกระบบ

การสะสมทุนและการเลื่อนสถานะทางสังคมของไอดอลเกาหลี, พัทธนันท์ ทรัพย์เจริญ

งานศึกษาชิ้นนี้มุ่งศึกษากระบวนการสะสมทุนและการเลื่อนระดับทางสังคมของไอดอลเกาหลี โดยใช้การวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพผ่านการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบรูปแบบการสะสมทุนของไอดอลเกาหลีที่มีช่วงระยะเวลาเดบิวท์ที่ใกล้เคียงกันจำนวนสองวง ได้แก่ วง EXO ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มไอดอลที่มีพื้นฐานของทุนทางเศรษฐกิจสูง และวง BTS ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มไอดอลที่มีพื้นฐานของทุนทางเศรษฐกิจที่ต่ำกว่า เพื่อนำมาวิเคราะห์กระบวนการสะสมทุนในมิติต่าง ๆ ที่เป็นผลทำให้ตำแหน่งทางสังคมจากไอดอลในฐานะศิลปินของประเทศเกาหลีใต้เลื่อนระดับ ทางสังคมไปสู่การเป็นไอดอลที่มีชื่อเสียงระดับโลกผ่านการใช้แนวคิดเรื่องทุนของบูดิเยอร์ ผลการศึกษาพบว่าความแตกต่างทางสังคมในช่วงแรกเกิดจากความแตกต่างของทุนทางเศรษฐกิจจากการดำเนินธุรกิจของบริษัทต้นสังกัด โดยวง EXO เป็นกลุ่มที่มีความได้เปรียบจากการเป็นไอดอลของบริษัทขนาดใหญ่ที่มีประสบการณ์สูง ซึ่งเอื้อต่อการสร้างทุนทางวัฒนธรรมและทุนทางสังคมที่สูงไปด้วย และทำให้วง EXO สามารถสร้างทุนทางสัญลักษณ์ทางด้านชื่อเสียงจนเลื่อนระดับทางสังคมได้อย่างรวดเร็ว ในส่วนของวง BTS เป็นไอดอลของบริษัทขนาดเล็กที่มีทุนทางวัฒนธรรมและทุนทางสังคมที่ต่ำกว่า แต่นำเอาประโยชน์จากความเปลี่ยนแปลงของเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศเข้ามาสร้างเครือข่ายทางสังคมจนทำให้วง BTS ได้รับการยอมรับจากสังคมและเกิดการเลื่อนระดับทางสังคมสู่การเป็นไอดอลที่มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังได้ในเวลาต่อมา ทั้งนี้ ชื่อเสียงที่เกิดขึ้นสามารถแปรสภาพจากทุนทางสัญลักษณ์กลับไปสู่ทุนทางเศรษฐกิจได้เช่นกัน

This study examines the spillover effects of U.S. monetary policy on sovereign bonds in emerging market economies (EMEs). It evaluates the influence of various phases of U.S. monetary policy, including quantitative easing (QE) and quantitative tightening (QT), on EME sovereign bond prices and yields. The analysis pays special attention to differences in the impacts on bonds denominated in local currencies versus U.S. dollars. The results indicate that U.S. monetary policy significantly affects the prices of both USD- and local currency-denominated bonds in EMEs, except during the pre-unconventional monetary policy period. Given the surge in Chinese high-tech exports from 2016 to 2021, this paper presents the first quantitative estimation of the export cutoff productivity for Chinese firms. It explores the impact of AI on export cutoff productivity at the firm level by applying text mining, the WLP method (2009), and the ROC method to 958 listed high-tech firms in China. The study finds that the export cutoff productivity threshold for Chinese high-tech industries significantly increased following the adoption of AI. Lung cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. One-third of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients are diagnosed in resectable stage, for which curative surgery is the cornerstone of treatment. Adjuvant osimertinib, a third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR TKI), was shown to significantly reduce recurrence and prolong survival for completely resected EGFR-mutated NSCLC. We performed a cost-effectiveness analysis of adjuvant osimertinib compared to placebo in patients with resected stage IB to IIIA EGFR-mutated NSCLC using Thailand’s societal perspective. The Thai government aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the transportation sector and establish Thailand as an electric vehicle (EV) hub in Southeast Asia by 2025. This study focuses on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) due to their potential for reducing emissions. Given the importance of the motor vehicles and parts are Thailand’s third most valuable export category, with exports accounting for 59.5% of the country’s GDP in 2019—the study analyzes consumer preferences for EV attributes and explores public attitudes toward EV stimulation policies. This study examines the impact of Thailand's 2020 single-use plastic bag ban on the packaging industry, focusing on the comparative analysis of plastic and paper firms. Utilizing a SWOT analysis framework, the study evaluates the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats posed by the policy implementation. Data spanning from 2018 to 2022 on return on assets (ROA) for both industries is analyzed to discern trends and correlations with the policy. This research investigates the potential of circular economy practices within this industry, focusing on the Thai market. This study investigates the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows on employment levels in ASEAN countries from 1992 to 2022. Utilizing descriptive statistics, correlation matrices, and econometric models including the pooled ordinary least squares, fixed effects and random effects models, the findings indicate that FDI inflows generally have a positive and significant effect on employment. However, this impact varies across countries, with some experiencing positive effects while others face negative impacts. This study examines the impact of inward foreign direct investment (FDI) on total factor productivity (TFP) growth in 23 Asian countries from 1991 to 2018. Using a dynamic panel data model, this study analyzes how FDI, together with GDP growth, capital and labor inputs, human capital, export growth, internet usage, and distance to the technology frontier, affects total factor productivity (TFP) growth. In this paper, we examine the intersection of financialization, wealth inequality, and the housing market in the United States with an emphasis on the relationship between absentee ownership and declining rental affordability. At the same time as financialization has increasingly transformed the market for residential real estate into a vehicle for financial speculation, households at the bottom of the income distribution have been disproportionately affected by rising rents and declining housing affordability. Using data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) we estimate the fraction of the US population that is health poor. A person is health poor if their income prior to paying health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket healthcare costs is above the poverty line, but their income net-of-premiums and out-of-pocket healthcare costs is below the poverty line. Because resources used to finance health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket costs are (A) lexicographically preferred and (B) cannot be used to maintain an individual’s standard of living, they should be excluded from official poverty estimates. The infrastructure of U.S. drinking water systems faces chronic issues of low quality and underinvestment. As the water utilities in the U.S. are typically managed and regulated at the local municipal level, investment levels depend on the municipal regulator's preferences. Drawing from a dynamic framework, I specify and estimate the local regulators' objective function over drinking water infrastructure investment. This framework highlights the tradeoff between profit and consumer surplus and reveals how regulator preferences can deviate from net surplus optimization, resulting in underinvestment. The gender wage gap continues to prove a contentious topic with some going as far as to question its existence. However, scholarly works continue to prove it is real and impactful. More fruitful debates have arisen about the source of this disparity in wages. This paper seeks to analyze one possible explanation for the pay gap: gender-based occupational segregation. I used OLS regressions based on women working full-time between the ages of sixteen and sixty-five to measure this. Those who lose economic status lose more than income because they become so socially isolated that they are further frustrated through loneliness (Case and Deaton 2020). According to conventional wisdom, the 2008 fnancial crisis fundamen- tally changed how policymakers approach fnancial regulation. Before the crisis, regulators sought to prevent individual fnancial institutions from collapsing, but this “microprudential” strategy proved inadequate to stop the market-wide meltdown. In response, policymakers purportedly turned to a new “macroprudential” approach that prioritizes the stability of the fnancial system as a whole instead of individual institutions in isolation. In the first chapter I identify the impact of fentanyl exposure misinformation- namely, the erroneous belief that momentary, passive contact with the potent opioid fentanyl can be seriously harmful- on first responder behavior during overdose events, and on overall opioid-related mortality. I examine changes in opioid-related mortality following one particularly well-covered episode involving an Ohio police officer in 2017, wherein the officer appeared to experience an acute opioid overdose after touching what was believed to be fentanyl. The first chapter analyzes how Premier League games in London impact demand for the city’s bike-sharing system. Bike-sharing systems affect mode choice for within-city transportation. Using bike rental data from Transport for London, this chapter exploits the plausibly-exogenous timing of Premier League games to identify how proximity to stadiums affects demand for London’s bike-sharing system. Results indicate games at Stamford Bridge (stadium) cause a 24.36% increase in the number of bike trips arriving within 0.5km of the stadium, with effects diminishing as distance increases. In contrast, games at London Stadium decrease nearby bike-sharing use and may actually crowd out would-be …
