Microcredit is one of the most important financial services offered by microfinance institutions (MFIs) in the Philippines. Loan repayment by frequent installments faces the challenge of possible random delays, which leads to random interest rates. Such randomness affects both microlenders and borrowers. This research utilizes a mathematical model called the generalized Yunus equation (GYE) to study the microloan repayment process in the Philippine setting. Using this model, an explicit formula was formulated expressing the effective interest rate involved in repayment as a function of the time when the delay takes place, which closely approximates the actual values of the rate …

This causal-comparative and correlation study investigated the costs of runway incursion safety improvements in relation to their effectiveness to assess potential aviation system benefits.Two airports (Los Angeles International and Dallas-Ft. Worth International), which were early adopters of Runway Status Lights (RWSL), a runway incursion technology, were targeted in this analysis. Findings indicated that there were no significant differences in counts or rates of Category A, B, and D incursions at LAX and DFW when comparing the time periods before versus after RWSL installation. We introduce a two-stage theoretical framework of fire services that justifies the status of response time as a factor input. In the first stage, the provincial government distributes a budget to its cities, resulting in varied numbers of firefighters and fire engines in each city. In the second stage, each city fire department places its fire stations at spatially optimal locations that minimize expected response times. When a fire occurs, the outputs from these two stages are actualized into dispatch level, response time, and suppression time.
