As more Americans lose all or part of their incomes and struggle with mounting debts, another crisis looms: a wave of personal bankruptcies. Bankruptcy can discharge or erase many types of debts and stop foreclosures, repossessions and wage garnishments. But our research shows the bankruptcy system is difficult to navigate even in normal times, particularly for minorities, the elderly and those in rural areas.

Little is known about women’s use of consumer bankruptcy in the US before 1980. We use new data from Maryland to show that women who petitioned for bankruptcy without a spouse were twice as common in the 1970s as they were in the 1950s and 1960s. We explore the extent to which the growing supply of credit to women explains their growing representation in bankruptcy. To do this, we examine the effect of a 1974 federal law that barred sex discrimination in lending, increasing the supply of credit to women relative to men. After the law, the probability that a …

This paper examines whether there is evidence to support or refute the Porter Hypothesis on a high polluting industry through analyzing the effect of environmental stringency on innovation in the chemical industry. Taking data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), we use country-level data from 2003-2015, to analyze how a country’s number of Class C chemical patents is affected by their Environmental Policy Stringency (EPS) Index. Workers, who are being asked to risk their health by working outside their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, need adequate hazard compensation, safe workplace conditions, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Sadly, this is not happening for many essential workers, such as those working in home health care and in the meat processing industry. These workers are not only being unnecessarily exposed to the virus, but they are also not receiving paid sick leave, unemployment benefits, and affordable health care and childcare. วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาทัศนคติโดยรวมของเกษตรกรผู้ปลูกปาล์มน้ำมันที่มีต่อมาตรฐาน RSPO ศึกษาเปรียบเทียบโครงสร้างต้นทุนในการผลิตปาล์มน้ำมันระหว่างเกษตรกรที่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO และเกษตรกรที่ไม่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO และเพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อการตัดสินใจเข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO ของเกษตรกรผู้ปลูกปาล์มน้ำมัน รวมทั้ง ศึกษาถึงสาเหตุและข้อจำกัดที่เกษตรกรตัดสินใจไม่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO โดยการศึกษาในครั้งนี้ได้ลงพื้นที่เก็บข้อมูลเกษตรกรผู้ปลูกปาล์มน้ำมันที่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO (กลุ่มวิสาหกิจชุมชนผลิตปาล์มน้ำมันอย่างยั่งยืนยูนิวานิช–ปลายพระยา) จำนวน 65 ราย และเกษตรกรผู้ปลูกปาล์มน้ำมันที่ไม่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO จำนวน 65 ราย ในอำเภอปลายพระยา จังหวัดกระบี่ โดยใช้แบบสอบถามแล้วนำมาวิเคราะห์สถิติเชิงพรรณนาและเชิงอนุมาน ผลการศึกษาพบว่า (1) เกษตรกรที่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO และเกษตรกรที่ไม่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO มีทัศนคติต่อมาตรฐาน RSPO ที่แตกต่างกัน โดยเกษตรกรที่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO ค่อนข้างมีทัศนคติเชิงบวกต่อมาตรฐาน RSPO แต่เกษตรกรที่ไม่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO มีทัศนคติเป็นกลางต่อมาตรฐาน RSPO ไปจนถึงค่อนข้างมีทัศนคติเชิงลบต่อมาตรฐาน RSPO (2) การเปรียบเทียบโครงสร้างต้นทุนในการผลิตปาล์มน้ำมัน พบว่า ต้นทุนรวมในการทำผลิตปาล์มน้ำมันของครัวเรือนที่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO ต่ำกว่าครัวเรือนที่ไม่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ โดยเฉพาะ ครัวเรือนที่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO มีสัดส่วนต้นทุนค่าปุ๋ยและต้นทุนค่ายาฆ่าหญ้าและยาฆ่าแมลงต่ำกว่าครัวเรือนที่ไม่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO แต่ในส่วนของต้นทุนค่าดูแลรักษาสวนปาล์มน้ำมันกลับพบว่าครัวเรือนที่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO มีสัดส่วนต้นทุนค่าดูแลรักษาสวนปาล์มน้ำมันสูงกว่าครัวเรือนที่ไม่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO (3) ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อการตัดสินใจเข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO ของเกษตรกรผู้ปลูกปาล์มน้ำมัน ได้แก่ เพศของหัวหน้าครัวเรือน ระดับการศึกษาของหัวหน้าครัวเรือน ทัศนคติเชิงบวกต่อมาตรฐาน RSPO และทัศนคติเชิงลบต่อมาตรฐาน RSPO และ(4) สาเหตุที่เกษตรกรผู้ปลูกปาล์มน้ำมันตัดสินใจไม่เข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO คือ เกษตรกรบางส่วนไม่รู้จักมาตรฐาน RSPO และสำหรับเกษตรกรที่รู้จักมาตรฐาน RSPO แต่ยังคงตัดสินใจไม่เข้าร่วมเนื่องมาจากหลายสาเหตุ เช่น เกษตรกรคิดว่ามาตรฐาน RSPO มีขั้นตอนยุ่งยากและซับซ้อน เกษตรกรมีความเข้าใจผิดเกี่ยวกับมาตรฐาน RSPO ในหลายประเด็น และเกษตรกรขาดความรู้ความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับมาตรฐาน RSPO เป็นต้น ผลการศึกษาชี้ให้เห็นว่า เกษตรกรทั้งสองกลุ่มมีทัศคติต่อมาตรฐาน RSPO ที่แตกต่างกัน โดยปัจจัยที่ทำให้เกษตรกรมีการตัดสินใจเข้าร่วมมาตรฐาน RSPO ที่แตกต่างกันเป็นผลมาจากปัจจัยด้านเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของครัวเรือนและปัจจัยด้านทัศนคติของเกษตรกร …

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อความกังวลการถูกตรวจสอบภาษี กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการศึกษาครั้งนี้ คือ ผู้ประกอบอาชีพค้าขายรายย่อยที่เป็นบุคคลธรรมดา จำนวน 385 คน โดยใช้แบบสอบถามออนไลน์เป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูล และใช้วิธีการศึกษาด้วยแบบจำลองถดถอยเชิงพหุ และค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์แบบสเปียร์แมน ผลการศึกษา พบว่า ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อความกังวลการถูกตรวจสอบภาษี ได้แก่ รายรับเฉลี่ยจากการขาย ลักษณะช่องทางการขาย และทัศนคติเกี่ยวกับระบบการตรวจสอบภาษี โดยรายรับเฉลี่ยจากการขายส่งผลเชิงบวกต่อความกังวลการถูกตรวจสอบภาษีเนื่องจากประเทศไทยจัดเก็บภาษีเงินได้บุคคลธรรมดาแบบอัตราก้าวหน้า รายรับเพิ่มขึ้นจะต้องจ่ายภาษีมากขึ้น และการเป็นผู้ขายที่มีช่องทางการขายเป็นออนไลน์อย่างเดียวส่งผลให้มีความกังวลการถูกตรวจสอบภาษีมากกว่าผู้ขายที่มีช่องทางการขายทั้งออนไลน์และออฟไลน์เพราะมีความเกี่ยวข้องโดยตรงกับการประกาศใช้กฎหมายภาษีอีเพย์เมนต์ นอกจากนี้ยังพบอีกว่าความกังวลใจเกี่ยวกับระบบการตรวจสอบภาษีของภาครัฐเป็นสาเหตุหลักที่ส่งผลเชิงบวกต่อความกังวลการถูกตรวจสอบภาษีของผู้ขายรายย่อย

What Is The Impact Of Monetary Policy On Local Commercial Bank Profitability In Thailand From 2002 To 2020?, Wenjun Fan

The paper investigated the relationship between monetary policy and commercial bank profitability in Thailand. The study used fixed effect panel model of quarterly bank data from the period of Q4/2002 to Q3/2020. The empirical results showed that changes in 14-day repurchase rate (Repo) had positive impact on the bank profitability (ROA and ROE). I also found that the size of the bank measured by total assets was only positively related to the ROE.

This study investigates the impact of bank competition on bank stability of China over the 2006–2019 period. We use unbalanced panel data from 38 Chinese commercial banks. We employ the natural logarithm of the Z-score to measure bank stability, and the NPL ratio to measure bank credit risk. Meanwhile, the competition was measured through Panzar-Rosse H-statistic. The study uses both the linear and non-linear regression models and investigates effect of the interest rate liberalization in China. This study assessed and compared the work capability of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and their able counterparts that covered the following aspects of work: (a) time on task, (b) work attitude, and (c) task compatibility. It was hypothesized that PWD workers are competent and productive in the workplace if the right task is given to them. Four employees with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) working either as administrative or store clerk in a drugstore chain participated in the study. Within weeks of the coronavirus pandemic appearing in the United States, the American economy came to a grinding halt. The unprecedented modern health crisis and the collapsing economy forced Congress to make a critical choice about how to help American families survive financially. Congress had two basic options. It could enact policies that provided direct and meaningful financial support to people, without the necessity of later repayment. Or it could pursue policies that temporarily relieved people from their financial obligations, but required that they eventually pay amounts subject to payment moratoria later.

Zoning has a significant impact on our built environment. Overlay zoning, an additional form of restrictive zoning, is a tool that municipalities utilize to control development and changes to neighborhoods. This study analyzes the impact that historic district (H-1) and neighborhood character (ND-1) overlays have on home sale prices in Lexington, KY. Results suggests that overlays have a significant positive impact on home values. Results also suggest that that overlays exhibit spatial impacts that extend further than the homes included in the overlay.

In dynamic environments, split-second sensorimotor decisions must be prioritized according to potential payoffs to maximize overall rewards. The impact of relative value on deliberative perceptual judgments has been examined extensively, but relatively little is known about value-biasing mechanisms in the common situation where physical evidence is strong but the time to act is severely limited. This research examines the behavioral and electrophysiological indices of how value biases split-second perceptual decisions and the possible mechanisms underlying the process. The U.S.-China diplomatic relationship today is shaped significantly by economic factors. Recent strains of literature have expanded our understanding of how international economic policy choices have effected U.S. workers and labor markets. This paper extends this research by imposing bilateral symmetry in the trade flow calculations of previous works, which historically have considered U.S. exports globally. I build on the net-impact analysis of Feenstra, Ma, and Xu (2017b) and adopt the instrumental variable strategy used in Acemoglu et al. This paper examines the impact of culture and employee satisfaction on company performance; it considers which elements of culture are most important in specific industries: manufacturing, technology, and finance. Additionally, it explores whether these elements of productive cultures are also associated with employee satisfaction. It uses data from the MIT Sloan Management Review/Glassdoor Culture 500 database, which applied machine learning to analyze 1.2 million Glassdoor reviews. This data quantitatively measures nine dimensions of culture: agility, collaboration, customer focus, diversity, execution, innovation, integrity performance, and respect—assigning each company a score for every cultural dimension. European ideas bled over into their colonial empires and began to fill the power vacuum created by colonial enterprises. This study analyzes the impact of British colonialism on the development of national identity in British India and Nigeria.
