The Long-Run Costs Of Moderate Inflation, Gregory Hess, Charles S. Morris
The Long-Run Costs Of Moderate Inflation, Gregory Hess, Charles S. Morris
CMC Faculty Publications and Research
Long-run price stability is generally considered to be a primary goal of monetary policymakers in many countries. One reason policymakers care about inflation is that it can harm economic performance. Numerous studies of the impact of inflation on economic performance have focused on whether increases in inflation reduce economic growth in the long run (Barro, Fischer 1993, Bruno and Easterly, and Clark). These studies have found that prolonged high inflation does in fact reduce economic growth, but they were not able to detect a significant long-run relationship between real growth and low or moderate inflation. Because anti-inflationary policies typically have …
Arkansas And The U.S. Economy In The Late 20th Century: Reinventing Ourselves Inside Out For A Better Tomorrow, Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
Arkansas And The U.S. Economy In The Late 20th Century: Reinventing Ourselves Inside Out For A Better Tomorrow, Don P. Diffine Ph.D.
Belden Center Books
Arkansas is truly an ideal spot in our great land. Situated at the buckle of the Sunbelt, Arkansas is benefiting from the northeast-to-southwest shift of population in the United States. The migration from frostbelt to sunbelt, and the economic emergence of the southern tier of states, have thrust our Natural State into the middle of today's action. A full 50 percent of the U.S. population is within a 550-mile radius of Arkansas' borders. More than 1,000,000 people live within a one-hour's drive of our state Capital.
The entire mid-south has been an underdeveloped region in the past, but it is …

Leaner Environmental Policies For Agriculture, David E. Ervin, Elisabeth A. Graffy
Economics Faculty Publications and Presentations
Farmers and ranchers face a most troubling dilemma. Complex political forces have mapped two quite different paths to environmental management-a rollback of federal regulations or a buildup of traditional subsidies. In the words of a famous modern philosopher, "When you reach a fork in the road, take it!" But either choice poses risk for the industry and will not likely ameliorate nettlesome environmental problems. A third path could help the industry maintain competitiveness and meet environmental challenges. This path uses me latest science to identify agroenvironmental problems and emphasizes economically attractive technology to sustain environmental improvements.
Estimates Of The Natural Rate Of Unemployment Based On Married Males And Married Females, Pamela Bowers
Estimates Of The Natural Rate Of Unemployment Based On Married Males And Married Females, Pamela Bowers
Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)
The natural rate of unemployment is always estimated using rates of unemployment for married males, yet no substantiated criteria exists for this choice. This study compares estimates of the natural rate of unemployment based on the unemployment rates of married males and married females, which are used in estimating the Phillips curve. The results shows that the two series exhibit similar trends over the study period, but the female-based series is lower. This implies that the natural rate is not independent of the demographic group chosen to estimate it. The basis for the study is a 1993 article by Stuart …
An Analysis Of The Economic Implications Of The Proposed Merger Between Randolph Township And The Village Of Clayton, Michael V. Wainscott
An Analysis Of The Economic Implications Of The Proposed Merger Between Randolph Township And The Village Of Clayton, Michael V. Wainscott
Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)
This study was conducted to determine the economic implications of the proposed merger between the Village of Clayton and unincorporated Randolph Township, as well as critique the plan laid out by the Merger Commission. The focus of the study was to compare the expenditures of ten area cities with the proposed expenditures of the Merger Commission as described in their May 7 Preliminary Report. In addition, economic trends in the area were examined to fully gauge the impact of the merger on the Northmont area.
It is clear from this study that the proposed budget of the new city will …
