This study compares economic growth and banking development in Arizona and New Mexico between 1947 and 1959-60 to evaluate the effects of unlimited versus limited branch banking. Using measures such as population growth, income, employment, lending activity, and banking accessibility, it argues that Arizona’s branch banking system contributed more effectively to economic development than New Mexico’s limited branch banking structure.

Published as a localized adaptation of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s national framework, the analysis utilizes a value-added approach across major industry sectors to map the state’s complex transactional flows, detailing a total GSP of $1,433 million heavily underpinned by robust extractive mining and federal military expenditures.
