in this paper some recent developments in time series econometrics, which is of great potential for extending the frontier of economic research is applied to Nigerian data in order to estimate a production function type equation as well as examine the key macroeconomic determinants of economic growth in Nigeria. Of particular application is the vector error correction modelling technique. Appropriate statistical techniques were employed in the data analyses. The findings show that women are greatly involved in the production, processing and marketing of food crops, especially cassava, which is one of the staple foods in sub-Saharan Africa.

This paper tries to identify some of the main trends in central Banks reserve management in recent years. lt describes some significant changes, which have taken place, with regard to the objectives and investment policies of central banks, while pointing out some elements that could noticeably slow or even reverse the trends identified. This paper uses time series data to analyse the relationship between agricultural growth and industrial performance for the three-decade period 1966 - 1995. Agricultural growth influences industry in many ways. It provides the raw materials needed by industry; it creates direct demand for the output of consumption goods of industries and indirect demand for the output of basic and capital goods industries. Analysing the input-output coefficients, the paper found that most primary and secondary commodity groups have weak backward and forward linkages, while the quantitative relationships between agricultural growth and industrial performance were non-significant, even when lagged. Against the adopted framework of the instrument, it analyses the movements in open market transactions and changes in the portfolio of treasury bill holdings of the CBN and other financial institutions. In 1997, Nigeria experienced its third consecutive year of macroeconomic stability, resulting in modest improvement in domestic output growth and a persistently low inflation rate. The balance of payments position showed a modest surplus, and significant success was achieved in reducing domestic liquidity growth. Domestic output expanded further due to increased agricultural output and crude petroleum production, while the inflation rate declined further. Domestic output, measured by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), increased by 3.8% in 1997, as against the average growth rate of 2.3% in the preceding three years.
