In 1983, Nigeria's economy experienced severe stagflation, with GDP falling by 4.4%, more than the 3.4% decline recorded in 1982. Domestic inflation was 23.2%, more than three times the 7.7% recorded in 1982. The external sector also suffered from the general malaise, with the recorded value of external trade falling from N21.3 billion in 1982 to N17.3 billion in 1983. Agricultural production fell sharply due to severe droughts, bush fires, and diseases/pest infestations in livestock and crops. N11.9 million and a net outflow of N3.7 million during the third and fourth quarters of 1983 respectively. These compared with the net outflows of 13.2 and N171.9 million recorded during the counterpart periods of the preceding year (See Table 1). In line with these developments, official holdings of external reserves increased by N11.9 million during the 3rd quarter, recording N802.2 million at the end of September, 1983. They decreased by N3.7 million during the 4th quarter to N798.5 million at the end of December 1983. (See Table 3) .

Money supply, narrowly defined , Ml, attained a seasonal peak of N 11,282.4 million at the end of the fourth quarter of 1983, thus showing an increase of N256.5 million or 2.3 per cent over the level in the preceding quarter, compared with the increase of N950. l million or 10.4 per cent in the corresponding period of 1982. Over the level a year earlier, the rise in this aggregate was Nl ,233.9 million or 12.3 per cent.

This paper has analysed the results of the survey o f foreign private investment in Nigeria for the period 1979 to 1981. The results show that net inflow o f foreign private investment into Nigeria fell by 12.6 per cent from N331.8 million in 1978 to N289.9 million in 1979. but rose by 61.1 per cent to N467.0 million in 1980 and fell again by 70. 5 per cent to N137.8 million in 1981. Colin Clark's theory of inflation has had a profound effect on present-day economic theory concerning taxation policy. While his belief that inflation occurred when all tax revenues exceeded 25 percent of national income was rejected by his contemporaries in the 1940's, supply-side economists incorporate Clark's theory into their proposals for curing the unemployment and inflation of the 1970's and 1980's. These proposals gained popular support and resulted in the election of President Ronald Reagan who implemented such proposals. The purpose of this study is to determine the veracity of Clark's theory.

Problem. This study addressed the problem of how small Christian institutions of higher education may best organize and manage their fund-raising programs to maximize alumni support. The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze what would be the best strategy in working with alumni.
Method. An experimental design was used with a pre-test/post-test control group. Six different treatments for stimulating alumni giving were studied: "Dear Friend" letter, telethon, personalized letter, gimmick letter, incentive letter, and personal visitation. The study was limited to Bethel College and included three hundred alumni randomly selected and given one of the six treatments. …

In 1981, Nigeria's economy experienced a 7.9% decline in industrial production, primarily due to a decline in mining production, particularly petroleum. Manufacturing output increased by 5.7%, while agricultural production showed some improvement. Inflation worsened, with the composite consumer price index rising by 20.8%. Monetary expansion slowed down, but a 5.6% increase was recorded at the end of the year. The aggregate banking system's credit to the economy increased by 5.8%, with the Federal Government budgeting for current services. During their campaign against Dakota Proposition, some of the opponents to that proposed constitutional amendment indicated their interest in a substitute measure to limit taxes in South Dakota. The substitute would involve, they stated, tying South Dakota taxes to the rate of inflation. An example of this kind of measure know as the Taxpayer's Rights Amendment" has been written and may be presented as a petition to change the South Dakota Constitution in a future general election.
