The recent financial crisis has triggered questions regarding the role of the Federal Reserve Bank and the effectiveness of its intervention in the financial markets, post the crisis. This paper investigates the impact of huge spikes in excess reserves on the U.S. real gross domestic product. U.S. Federal Reserve in an effort to deal with the 2008 financial crisis instituted a series of programs aimed at taming the impact of the crisis. Through its emergency lending activities and Quantitative Easing (QE) programs, the Federal Reserve created a huge spike in excess reserves to levels not seen before. The empirical findings …

An influential set of economic theories argue that the firm is a nexus of contracts that institute a hierarchy to overcome the problems of incomplete contracting in the market. However, the economic theory of the firm as a hierarchy violates the moral requirement to respect the autonomy of those who contract into the firm. In the hospitality industry, employee turnover levels increased to 58.8%, and the associated cost of turnover may be more than 100% of an employee's yearly wage, with a total loss of over $25 billion a year. Initial public offering (IPO) underpricing is a costly practice that decreases the IPO proceeds accruing to the issuing firms and can derail a firm's growth objectives. The purpose of this correlational study was to determine the relationship between share retention, underwriter reputation, and IPO underpricing among a population of IPOs issued in Jamaica. The efficient market hypothesis served as the theoretical framework for this study. Archived data for 52 IPOs issued in Jamaica from 1986 to 2018 were collected and Spearman's correlation matrix and heteroscedasticity-consistent standard errors regression analysis were applied. We develop a conceptual framework and provide empirical evidence that helps to explain why management scholars submit the same paper to more than one scholarly conference, a practice referred to as "double dipping." Drawing from general strain theory,we find that certain features of the social and national institutional context in which these scholars are embedded provides motivation for and facilitates rationalization of engagement in the double-dipping practice. Specifically, our results show that the incidence of conference paper double dipping is greater for junior scholars and for those currently affiliated with research-intensive universities. Chapter 1 investigates a regulatory spillover effect of the Basel III liquidity standard on the real economy through a series of difference-in-difference estimations. Since the Basel Committee’s official endorsement for the new liquidity regulation in December 2010, a bank exposed to high liquidity risk reduced its loan proportion significantly, making a negative real effect on its surrounding economy via a bank-lending-channel. The new regulation also induced a bank with a weak liquid balance sheet to raise its deposit rate aggressively, generating a liquidity problem in a nearby local bank through a deposit-competition-channel and ultimately curbing an expansion of the local …

In this study, we empirically investigate the impact of credit default swap rates on short-term interest rates. We find that CDS rates significantly impact short-term interest rates. The impact remains significant after controlling for inflation and unemployment. Applying co-integration test and vector error correction modeling, the study also finds a causal relationship between CDS rates and short-term interest rates. These relationships are confirmed through autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (ARCH), exponential generalized ARCH [EGARCH] and vector auto-regression (VAR) analyses. يهدف هذا البحث إلى التعرف على انماط تفكير السيناريو المتمثلة بـ ((المستقبلي، المنظمي، الاستراتيجي) لعينة من كليات جامعة الكوفة، من خلال وضع استراتيجيات لمتخذي القرار المتمثلة بالإبعاد ( الندرة، التأثير، التوجيه)، وتم اختيار عينة عشوائية من الكادر التدريسي في خمس كليات من جامعة الكوفة اذ بلغ عددهم ( 210) تدريسي واستخدم الباحثان استمارة الاستبيان كأداة رئيسة لجمع البيانات والمعلومات باستخدام تدرج مقياس ( Likert) الخماسي، وتم تحليل الفرضيات باستخدام عدد من الأدوات الاحصائية (الوسط الحسابي، الانحراف المعياري، معامل ارتباط بيرسون، معامل الانحدار) وكانت ابرز الاستنتاجات التي توصل اليه البحث ان انماط التفكير بالسيناريوهات بإبعادها لها دور مهم في دعم استراتيجية …
