Trade wars may have started. At the time this report was published, the Trump administration had threatened, then paused, a 25 percent tariff on Canadian and Mexican goods. Before the pause, Mexico and Canada were preparing retaliatory tariffs. After the pause, Trump ordered a 25 percent import tax on all steel and aluminum entering the United States to start in March 2025 and announced a plan for tariffs on US trading partners. In this brief, we document the different perspectives and economic consequences of North American trade wars and beyond.

My dissertation consists of three studies on how investor behavior affects the outcomes in financial markets. The first study focuses on the investors’ limited capacity on processing the complicated information transmitted through interconnected firms. The other two studies explore the investor heterogeneity on preferred time of trading, due to their personal traits or irrational judgements on the market conditions.

Within Western contexts, philanthropy has been conceptualized as formal and organizational, with less emphasis on its informal contours. This paper identifies social solidarity as crucial to understanding philanthropy in African contexts. The first section explores concepts of philanthropy, such as reciprocity and cooperation. Second, recognizing solidarity as a key aspect of philanthropy, we review how social solidarity has been theorized and studied. Third, we illustrate how philanthropy in Kenya and Uganda is embedded within specific contexts. Philanthropy can be found in horizontal (formal), vertical (informal), and hybrid forms. Considering its significant role, the existing research has analyzed the major factors affecting the economic growth of some selected Asian nations. Existing research establishes that minority borrowers, particularly Black small business owners, faced significant challenges in accessing funds from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), especially in its early stages. We find that institutional and racial disparities persist during the PPP loan forgiveness stage. Controlling for various loan- and borrower-level characteristics, we demonstrate that relationship lenders – community banks, credit unions, and farm credit institutions – are associated with higher rates of PPP loan forgiveness. In contrast, automated lenders – fintechs and fintech banks – exhibit the lowest forgiveness rates. Black borrowers experience the poorest outcomes, except for loans issued by non-depository …

Subway, Collaborative Matching, And Innovation, Yumi Koh, Li Jing, Jianhuan Xu

Research Collection School Of Economics

Using rapid expansion of the Beijing subway from 2000 to 2018, we analyze its impact on collaborative matches in innovations. We find that an hour reduction in travel time between a pair of locations in Beijing brought 14.85% to 37.69% increase in collaborated patents. Far-apart location pairs were more affected, and the local average causal response is approximately 34.92% to 82.29%. The effect is mainly driven by increased matches among highly productive innovators. The entry of new innovators, relocation of existing innovators, and collaborations among low-productive innovators also contribute to the increase in collaborative matches, especially in the long run.

تهدف الدراسة الحالية قياس مستوى الوضوح الاستراتيجي لدى القادة الإداريون في جامعة الشرقية بسلطنة عمان، تم استخدام المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، كما استخدمت الاستبانة في جمع البيانات والمعلومات وتم تطبيقها على عينة مكونة من (384) قيادي، وتوصلت نتائج الدراسة إلى أن مستوى الوضوح الاستراتيجي للأداء المؤسسي لدى موظفي جامعة الشرقية بسلطنة عمان كان عاليا، وكذلك جاء متوسطًا أيضًا في بعد وضوح الإجراءات والأنشطة، وبعد وضوح الأهداف وبعد وضوح الهيكل التنظيمي، بينت النتائج عدم وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية عند مستوى (α ≤ 0.05) بين استجابات أفراد عينة البحث بسبب متغيرات الجنس، والمؤهل العلمي، وسنوات الخبرة، والمسمى الوظيفي.

يهدف البحث الى اختبار التأثير المشترك للقيادة المتعاطفة والنزاهة السلوكية في الرسوخ التنظيمي، وقد مثلت هيئة السياحة العراقية ميداناً لتطبيق البحث وهي احدى التشكيلات المهمة المسؤولة عن السياحة وادارتها في البلد والمرتبطة بوزارة الثقافة والسياحة والآثار، وقد تم استخدام الاستبانة كأداة لجمع البيانات بعد ان تم تكييف فقراتها بما يتناسب مع المنظمة المبحوثة والبيئة العراقية، وشملت عينة البحث (109) من الافراد العاملين في دوائر هيئة السياحة العراقية، وتم معالجة البيانات بواسطة برنامج (Amos , SPSS V.25) وبأستخدام مجموعة من الأساليب الإحصائية المناسبة (الوسط الحسابي، الانحراف المعياري، معامل الاختلاف، الفاكرونباخ، التحليل العاملي التوكيدي، الانحدار البسيط، الانحدار المتعدد)، وقد توصلت الدراسة الى …

هدفت الدراسة الى تعزيز معرفة تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي في تحسين فاعلية جودة التدقيق لما لها من دور كبير في تحسين الأداء المالي للمصارف العراقية، من خلال تقليل الروتين في العمل فضلا عن معالجة الأخطاء وكذلك تحليل البيانات الكبيرة وتحديد الانحرافات وإيجاد الحلول المناسبة والضرورية لها .
