The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a small family counseling center as evaluated by the clients themselves. A questionnaire, designed and used by the National Family Service Association of America in 1970, was utilized as the measure for evaluation. A total of 46 clients comprised the sample group representing 25% of the population receiving questionnaires. Descriptive case data were collected and analyzed on the total population and compared to the sample. Results showed a marked deficiency in the number of minority and low-income groups both in requesting services and responding to the questionnaire. Agency services …

The Behavioral Characteristic Progression (BCP) System consists of a matrix of over 2,500 behavioral areas or strands. Each strand is composed of up to 100 progressive steps or characteristics, ranging from minimal performance to normally accepted adult behavior in that area. This study reports on a reassessment of five profoundly retarded, eight severely retarded and six moderately retarded subjects randomly selected from the population' of a Behavior Modification Unit of Big Spring State Hospital. The terms "social work," "casework," and "counseling" signify similar but separate professions, occupations, and techniques. Their places within the spectrum of community or helping services are clarified by a discussion of relevant literature. Based on these perspectives, ad survey of 104 local helping service agencies and organizations was undertaken to establish employment qualifications (educational, experiential, professional) for the helping professions. Follow-up was done in 10 situations where Master's Degrees in Social Work, Counseling, and Psychology were required for employment - to determine the particular value of the degree for the specific position. Important among the reasons which many counselors have given for being counselors has been that the profession enables them to develop themselves (Carkhuff and Berenson, 1967). The idealized outcome of this development has been variously termed inner congruity, integration, self-actualization or simply the realization of a basic potentiality. Regardless of theoretical persuasions, counselors, in moments or candid self-revelation, have admitted that for them the act of engaging in counseling relationships hes contributed to personal growth more rewarding than monetary gain and self-satisfaction. Ecological Assessment Of Influences In The Development Of Gifted Young Children, Laura M. Piper

The home environment of eight gifted and eight nongifted children, matched for age and sex, was studied. The mothers of the children were given a structured interview and their responses were rated on six environmental variables hypothesized to be related to the development of intelligence and social ability. The study was designed to evaluate the assessment instrument and to obtain correlational data between the home environment and certain child development aspects. Correlations were significant on five of the six variables.

The purpose of the study was to ascertain the degree of change, if any, of two hundred delinquent boys during their rehabilitation at the Iowa Training School for Boys, Eldora, Iowa. This information would be established on the basis of the ten areas of personality as depicted on the Guilford-Zimmerman Temperament Survey.
