Examining Collaborative Knowledge Construction In Microblogging-Based Learning Environments, Tian Luo, Lacey Clifton
STEMPS Faculty Publications
Aim/Purpose: The purpose of the study is to provide foundational research to exemplify how knowledge construction takes place in microblogging-based learning environments, to understand learner interaction representing the knowledge construction process, and to analyze learner perception, thereby suggesting a model of delivery for microblogging.
Background: Up-and-coming digital native learners crave the real-time, multimedia, global-interconnectedness of microblogging, yet there has been limited research that specifically proposes a working model of Twitter's classroom integration for designers and practitioners without bundling it in with other social media tools.
Methodology: This semester-long study utilized a case-study research design via a multi-dimensional approach in a …
Virtual Collaboration Effectiveness In Multi-Organization Projects: Tool Usability, Task Alignment And Team Connectivity, Zhaojun Yang, Jun Sun, Yali Zhang, Ying Wang
Virtual Collaboration Effectiveness In Multi-Organization Projects: Tool Usability, Task Alignment And Team Connectivity, Zhaojun Yang, Jun Sun, Yali Zhang, Ying Wang
Information Systems Faculty Publications
As mobile instant messaging (IM) has become the fastest-growing social media (e.g. WeChat, WhatsApp), this study investigates the use of it as a virtual collaboration tool in multi-organization projects. The understanding of the relationships among tool, task and team in technology-facilitated collaboration leads to the integration of technology acceptance model, task-technology fit model and network externality framework into a research model. Tool usability, task fit and team connectivity are hypothesized to have direct and indirect effects on virtual collaboration effectiveness. The results based on survey observations collected from multi-organization project teams using WeChat in China support most of the hypothesized …

A Snapchat Marketing Perspective: Examining The Personality Traits And Motives That Predict Attitudes Toward And Engagement With Non-Sponsored And Sponsored Content In Snapchat., Tiany Sousa Garnica
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Social networking sites (SNS) have revolutionized the communication between consumers and brands, publishers, and marketers. These platforms have become a way for advertisers to communicate directly and engage users with content that is innovative and less intrusive. The aim of this research is to examine the personality traits and motives (based on the uses and gratifications theory) that predict attitudes toward and engagement with non-sponsored and sponsored content in Snapchat. An online survey with 606 participants showed that the main motives of using Snapchat were social information seeking, entertainment, and impression management. Multiple regression analyses were used to determine what …

Influence Of Socio-Economic Factors On Farmers’ Use Of Mobile Phones For Agricultural Information In Nigeria, Adeyemi Adewale Akinola
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Farmers use mobile phones to access information needed to improve their agricultural practice. However, in cases where they do maximize their mobile phone utilization, they may be hindered by some socio-economic factors which may lead to inadequate access to agricultural information. Fine-Grained Sentiment Analysis Of Social Media With Emotion Sensing, Zhaoxia Wang, Chee Seng Chong, Landy Lan, Yinping Yang, Beng-Seng Ho, Joo Chuan Tong
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Social media is arguably the richest source of human generated text input. Opinions, feedbacks and critiques provided by internet users reflect attitudes and sentiments towards certain topics, products, or services. The sheer volume of such information makes it effectively impossible for any group of persons to read through. Thus, social media sentiment analysis has become an important area of work to make sense of the social media talk. However, most existing sentiment analysis techniques focus only on the aggregate level, classifying sentiments broadly into positive, neutral or negative, and lack the capabilities to perform fine-grained sentiment analysis. This paper describes …
Youth And Social Media: Power To Empower?, Sujith Kumar Prankumar
Youth And Social Media: Power To Empower?, Sujith Kumar Prankumar
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
Much has been written on social media and how it has positively revolutionised communication and information transmission. The infl uence of social media is indubitable—it reaches anyone with an Internet connection, no matter their geographic location or socioeconomic status. This means information that was previously out of reach for isolated and less well-off communities is now accessible by more people than ever before. For example, University College London’s “Why We Post” social media anthropology project—conducted by nine researchers in nine different communities over 15 months—found that communities that have traditionally received comparatively lower levels of schooling now have access to …

The identification of meaningful audience segments, such as groups of users, consumers, readers, audience, etc., has important applicability in a variety of domains, including for content publishing. In this research, we seek to develop a technique for determining both information dissemination and information discrimination of online content in order to isolate audience segments. The benefits of the technique include identification of the most impactful content for analysis. With 4,320 online videos from a major news organization, a set of audience attributes, and more than 58 million interactions from hundreds of thousands of users, we isolate the key pieces of content …

Health Social Network Websites: Design Features And Users’ Participation, Mohammad A. Al-Ramahi, Insu Park
Research & Publications
Patients are increasingly utilizing health Social Network Sites (SNSs) to share useful health information and support with peers. The long-term viability of health SNSs depends critically on voluntary contributions by their members, which in turn relies on members’ participation. Literature examined the drivers of users’ participation in online communities and suggested that social identity plays important roles in determining virtual community members’ participation and contribution to the community. However, little known regarding healthcare SNSs design features that facilitate users’ social identity. With such knowledge, it could determine the most effective design features that motivate higher levels of participation, which in …

Although, the usage of healthcare information systems (HIS) has provided many potential benefits such as enhancing the availability, accessibility and readability of information, healthcare information security has become a growing public concern. Most of the studies have shown the importance of sanctions, information security policy, and information awareness programs in reducing IS misuse behavior, but individuals may still tend to engage in inappropriate behaviors, especially under the context of disasters. The vulnerabilities and risks associated with the HIS could be very extreme under disasters, which may cause employees to misuse their HIS for the sake of delivery of health services …
