Publishing is a process with numerous moving parts; systems, workflows, guidelines, and documentation are crucial for a program’s success. This unit provides answers to the following questions: What’s needed to support an author or journal editor from submission through publication? What are the workflows for file preparation, the production process, and distribution? How do you manage text-based digital and possible print editions? What staff skills are required to support a publishing program? What resources can be drawn upon to assist you as you build your program?

This unit focuses on the interrelated topics of discovery and accessibility, or how you enable readers to find and use your publications. In the first half of the unit, we will cover best practices in metadata management, common metadata standards and unique identifiers, journal indexing, and search engine optimization. In the second half, we will briefly discuss best practices in accessibility for the web, ebooks, and PDFs, legal and ethical concerns, and universal design.

This is a fictional podcast series that presents a story that is completed through roleplaying. The structure follows that of a video game, with the main characters, or "players," interacting with a set plot while deciding their own course of action. I act as the narrator for the story, controlling the plot and setting as well as non-player characters, or "NPCs." Print magazines are unique among nonfiction media in their dedication of staff and resources to in-depth, word-by-word verification of stories. Over time, this practice has established magazines’ reputation for reliability, helped them retain loyal readers amid a glut of information sources, and protected them from litigation. But during the past decade, websites, mobile platforms, and social media have expanded the types of stories and other content that magazines provide readers. Doing so has shortened the time between the creation and dissemination of content, challenging and in some cases squeezing out fact-checkers’ participation. April 2017 marks the 100^th anniversary of the United States entering World War I. Many enjoy learning about the battles, the military, and the Homefront. But there is a need for more scholarship to understand the role African Americans played in the war. From my research, many African Americans disagreed with US involvement. Why would a country agree to fight for democracy overseas when its citizens need freedom at home? Racism in the United States concerned African Americans deeply. Media Constructed Retirement Articles Of Professional Baseball Players, Kevin T. Berge

The career of an athlete may shape the narrative that the media uses when writing articles on that player when they retire. Many people fail to understand how the media constructs articles the way they do on Major League Baseball (MLB) players upon retirement. This research study used a mixed method approach to show how the media covers certain professional MLB players when they retire. The researcher counted how many times chosen variables were mentioned in two different articles of sixteen retired MLB players, and then extracted quotes from those articles.
