In an effort to address ever-shifting staffing levels and evolving service demands, staff in the Research & Instructional Services department of The D.B. Weldon Library at Western University developed and implemented a new and strategic approach to structuring their work. The ‘Portfolio Model’ provides a framework for organizing the primary functions of the department - collections, instruction and reference - while at the same time preserving liaison at its core. An ARL-level mental health services research and policy collection will support, not only the international and national goals of improving mental health; it also positions USF (USF) within the renowned health services research community, becoming peers with other major university health services research centers. The charge of this Task Force evolved from an assignment to “work with the Head of Cataloging to develop a plan to strengthen the output of metadata needed for digital and electronic collections." This assignment grew out of a concern by Derrie Perez, Interim Dean of the USF Library System, that there was increased fragmentation of the USF Libraries collections, with electronic and digital collections accessed by means other than the online catalog. This report examines the USF Libraries Digital Collections from its foundation, its overall strategy, and structure of the current system. This model will allow a fuller picture …
