Communication Collaboration, Cohesion, And Decision Making: Perceived Differences Between Top Management Teams And Regular Work Teams, Elijah L. Murphy

Differences in communication collaboration, cohesion and decision making between top teams and regular teams was investigated. An analysis of 253 members of top teams and regular teams was used to determine where these differences exist. To identify differences between these two groups a one way ANOVA was conducted. Additionally, a decision making scale was designed and evaluated using a confirmatory factor analysis. Collaboration was evaluated using measures of knowledge sharing, workgroup support and employee attitude. Cohesion was evaluated using measures of sense of belonging and morale. Decision making was evaluated using measures of authority rule, majority rule, consensus, and satisficing. …

Online marriage programs or mail-order-bride programs have gained tremendous popularity and international reach in the recent years. Online marriage programs are venues in which women can advertise themselves as available for marriage and where men can find potential wives. These programs have both critics and proponents. Critics say it is a form of exploitation and control while proponents argue that it leads to happiness and romance. Although critics' and proponents' views have been well presented in many of the mail-order-bride literature, there is little information or account of the experiences of the participants. Analysis Of Unsolicited, Non-Paradigmatic Letters To An Organization As A Communicative Genre, Todd E. Conklin

The present study sought to discover and investigate a unique category of unsolicited, non-paradigmatic letters received by organizations, particularly those with high visibility or whose purposes are controversial. To accomplish this objective, the present study used the rhetorical method of generic analysis, to study 30 unsolicited letters sent to Los Alamos National Laboratory during the years 1999-2000. Generic analysis provides information about the worldview and strategies employed by the letter writer and the parameters within the rhetorical transaction and delivery of his or her message.

The purpose of this research was to isolate psycho­logical, sociological and environmental variables which interact with proximity in determining friendship formation and communication behaviors for a particular subpopulation, the elderly. Subjects were residents of four architectur­ally different, low-income, elderly apartment complexes in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A two-part questionnaire was distributed to the door­steps of the 338 residents of the four apartment complexes. The purpose of the present study was to compare the communicative behavior of democratic male and democratic female leaders. Subjects were selected from a body of students in introductory communication classes who completed the Sargent and Miller Leadership Questionnaire. Ten males and ten females, identified as democratic leaders, participated as leaders of small groups composed of two male and two female group members who scored in the middle range on the Sargent and Miller instrument.

The subjects for this experiment were chosen from seven undergraduate beginning Speech Communication classes at The University of New Mexico. These subjects were asked to look at either an attractive, neither-attractive-nor-unattractive, or unattractive person who was posing as a defendant in a negligent homicide case, and sentence that defendant to from one to twenty-five years in prison for the crime.

A 3x2 factorial design was constructed, testing two variables -- level of physical attractiveness (attractive, neither attractive- nor-unattractive, unattractive), and mode of presentation of the defendant (photograph, in person). The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and evaluate Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech in light of his philosophy of leadership. The methodology employs a system of psychoanalytic criticism devised by the author and based upon the psychoanalytic theories of Sigmund Freud and the critical philosophy of Joseph Blau.

The ideas of Freud are considered which pertain most directly to the rhetorical situation. This field study was a survey designed to collect and analyze data regarding the public's opinion or, the University of New Mexico. The first of its kind at U.N.M., it constructed a channel of feedback from the public to the University. The information obtained by the study establishes a base for expected responses of subsequent studies. This study measured existing attitudes in relation to demographic data. A mail questionnaire was sent to a stratified random sample of 3000 derived from each of New Mexico's thirty-two counties' voting lists. The present study was designed to analyze the 1968 Presidential campaign speech of George Wallace, using a theoretical model based on a value analysis. Four hypotheses were developed. First, the speech of George Corley Wallace will be found to contain value appeals; second, it is hypothesized that George Wallace appealed to a fairly limited number of American values; third, one of the values that Wallace can be expected to appeal to is racism; and, fourth, George Wallace does appeal to some dominant American values, but he does not appeal to others.
