Objective: In Australia, an estimated 1 in 10 households experiences food insecurity. The objective of this study was to devise a visual synthesis to summarise the activities, processes and principles that support the right to food for everyone in Australia. Methods: Semi-structured key informant interviews (n=30) were conducted during 2019–20. Content analysis synthesised perspectives and assisted co-authors in revising an initial draft (shared during the interview) to finalise the road map through semantic realist data analysis and re-design. This study was conducted to provide insight into the characteristics of attendees of the 2024 Clark Fork River Pedal & Farm Tour. 43 participants completed online surveys. The 2024 Clark Fork River Pedal & Farm Tour in Plains, Montana, attracted a diverse group of visitors, with 60.5% from Montana and 39.5% from out of state. The event was the primary reason for 91.7% of attendees’ visits, and 72.7% of non-local participants stayed at least one night, averaging 2.84 nights. This led to significant spending, particularly on accommodations and dining, totaling $6,524.00. Overall satisfaction was high, with 85.7% indicating they would …

This study was conducted for MetraPark to provide insight into the characteristics of attendees of the 2024 MontanaFair. 606 attendees of the event completed the survey. Results show that 97.8% of respondents were residents of Montana, of which 93.2% were from Yellowstone County. Out-of-county respondents spent an average of 3.51 nights in Billings, reporting a total spending of $32,547.00, mostly in hotel/motel/bed and breakfasts. Results provide event organizers with useful data for future event planning, making improvements to the event, event marketing/promotion, and understanding the visitor spending associated with the event.

Environmental justice is essential for improved quality of life and sustainable wellbeing. This study examines how environmental issues and related injustices are surfacing in U.S. social work practice and social work readiness to respond, and what resources social workers are most interested in. Data are from an online survey of U.S. social workers (N = 337) in Colorado, Ohio, and Tennessee. Participants answered questions about their social work background, current job, environmental issues in practice, resources, and demographics. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics. Since 2013, fisheries managers have used a bioeconomic model to simulate the effect of proposed regulations on angler participation and subsequent fishing mortality for Gulf of Maine Atlantic cod and haddock using data from a choice experiment survey. In the year following the last choice experiment survey, however, Gulf of Maine cod fishery experienced unprecedented regulatory changes that, to this day, considerably limit recreational harvest. Estimates of the value of recreational fishing are widely used in policy analysis. For example, NOAA Fisheries calculates the change in economic value anticipated with proposed changes in saltwater fishing regulations. Studies to generate new estimates of economic value are costly and time consuming. This deliberate famine was both politically and ethnically motivated for the purpose of progressing the Communist Revolution. Stalin believed there was a growing issue of separatism in Ukraine which threatened the unity of the Soviet Union. Stalin’s regime used collectivization, a system of violent seizure of land, people, and resources, to boost industrialization within the Soviet Union as well as to terrorize Ukrainians into submission. Many former participants credit Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s Assistant Agent (AA) program as a key factor in their career success. However, its economic costs and benefits are unclear. Results show that the program is economically successful (i.e., has a higher net present value) when a former AA remains in an agent position for 2-3 years longer than someone who was hired without AA experience. This is likely to be the case because the former AA has a better understanding of an agent’s job responsibilities and/or because administrators have had a chance to observe performance as an AA, leading to better …

Agrivoltaic Decision Tools For Perennial And Field Crop Farmers, Jill Fitzsimmons, Tae-Hyun Kim

This article describes a series of spreadsheet-based tools to help farmers estimate costs, revenues, and yields from agricultural production under different configurations of agrivoltaic installations for field and perennial crops. Crop-specific log books allow farmers to project changes in activity-level costs from the field due to agrivoltaic installations. The whole-farm tool helps farmers aggregate activity-level net returns up to the farm level to calculate projections of trade-offs between crop production with or without agrivoltaic installations. We present tools for lettuce and cranberries, but the tools are comprehensive and inclusive and so can be modified for other perennial and field crops.

Two graduate students and a faculty member of the Department of Entomology at the University of Kentucky developed and implemented a two-year extension program aimed to train Amish farmers on identification and management of their major agricultural problems. Students conducted periodical visits to the community, inquired about farmers’ needs, and identified relevant issues, which were outlined to plan two field days offered in their properties. Amish farmers gained knowledge on diverse topics and were eager to receive handouts and publications. Amish were open to apply new technologies and implement them without main changes in their traditional methods of agriculture. The …

Kansas State University’s Rural Grocery Initiative, housed under research and extension, surveyed rural Kansas grocery stores in 2021 (N = 48). This is the second RGI survey, following up on the ownership and customer surveys in 2008. This survey broadly assesses owner characteristics, store features, and challenges. Using descriptive and thematic analyses, we identified two topline conclusions for grocers and their respective Extension services. First, grocers need to identify transition plans earlier and more often. Second, grocers can overcome competition and distribution challenges by diversifying their sourcing, supply, and offerings.

This study explores the market potential of BioWRAP, a biodegradable sprayable weed suppression product, by assessing the willingness to pay (WTP) among American home gardeners. Traditional plastic mulch offers significant agronomic benefits but poses considerable environmental challenges, making BioWRAP a promising alternative due to its similar benefits and reduced environmental impact. Using a double-bounded contingent valuation method, we analyze the WTP for BioWRAP among different demographic groups and gardening practices. Our findings indicate that the highest WTP for BioWRAP is among home gardeners who currently use chemical sprays for weed suppression, followed by those using physical barriers, with the lowest …

This study was conducted for the East Helena Valley Rodeo Association to provide insight into the characteristics of attendees at the 2024 East Helena Valley Rodeo. Surveys were completed by 554 attendees during and after the event using a tablet, paper surveys, and online link. Results show that 96.2% of respondents were residents of Montana, with 86.1% of these Montana residents from Lewis and Clark County. Out-of-county respondents spent an average of 4.16 in the East Helena area/Lewis and Clark County and more people spent money on accommodations ($15,639) and restaurant/bar ($11,833) than any other spending categories. This study analyzes the trends and compound growth rates of Pakistan’s oilseed crops from the year 1971-72 to 2021-22. The acreage, production, and yields of essential crops such as rapeseed-mustard and canola, sunflower, peanut, sesame, soybean, safflower, linseed, and castor seed are examined using trend analysis and compound growth rate estimations. The study's conclusions show a marked change in favor of a greater reliance on imported edible oilseeds and a decline in indigenous production. Despite this, certain crops, such as mustard and rapeseed, have a positive production trend, indicating increased agricultural efficiency.
