This study involves the history of one of the largest softball tournaments in the world. Sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Tournament has become one of the greatest athletic events in the Church.

The problem is limited to an analysis of the motives, influences, and events which has been of greatest importance in the origin and development of this Tournament.

For a period of twenty years beginning in 1918 when the writer became Superintendent of the Stockton Playground Department, annual reports of its major activities and accomplishments were made and submitted to the Mayor and later the City Manager for their information. They helped in securing the next budget. Throughout the thirty years of service additional reports of activities and improvements in facilities were kept on file in the office of the department for the information of its officers and a permanent record.

In a measure, the thesis seeks to bring together a consideration of the program and problems from both the secular and religious viewpoints. The two are based upon the same psychological needs of humanity, but the two fields have become isolated in their fundamental approaches. The secular books barely mention the church and its programs. The Valley Gravity Project plan has been formulated to furnish an adequate and dependable irrigation water supply for fertile and productive area in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas. Purpose of the Study.- The purpose of the study here reported was twofold: (1) to ascertain the nature and extent of gainful employment and the hazards to health in such occupations among boys and girls of high school age (14-18) and; (2) to inquire into the recreational and leisure-time activities of boys and girls.
