Food Insecurity On College Campus, Erika Islao, Izzy Green, Rachel Stone, Ariana Messer
Food Insecurity On College Campus, Erika Islao, Izzy Green, Rachel Stone, Ariana Messer
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
Food Insecurity can affect certain groups more than others. At the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University we've observed it in international students, student-athletes, and those without transportation. Although CSBSJU offers several dining options, it can still be difficult for students to access meals due to limited availability during breaks, limited dining hours for student-athletes, and transportation barriers. This paper examines how food insecurity and nutrition insecurity impact students’ overall well-being while also exploring how these challenges appear within the CSBSJU community. Research shows that students experiencing food insecurity often report higher stress levels, and lower academic engagement. …
Understanding Statutory Corporate Tax Rates And Corporate Tax Revenue: Evidence From Oecd Countries, 2015–2023, Carter Johnson
Understanding Statutory Corporate Tax Rates And Corporate Tax Revenue: Evidence From Oecd Countries, 2015–2023, Carter Johnson
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
This paper analyzes the relationship between statutory corporate tax rates and corporate tax revenues among the OECD countries from 2015-2023. Since the 1980’s, statutory corporate tax rates have been gradually declining, however, the relationship between rate and revenue remains unclear. The Laffer Curve helps motivate the relationship between rate and revenue within the theoretical model. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Real GDP are included as control variables, along with incorporating inflation and per capita measurements. The fixed effects panel regression findings conclude there is no direct relationship between corporate tax rate and revenue. However, FDI and Real GDP were found …
Mindfulness-Based Interventions To Improve Anxiety And Depression Outcomes In Adult Patients, Eunice Onyinye Nsofor
Mindfulness-Based Interventions To Improve Anxiety And Depression Outcomes In Adult Patients, Eunice Onyinye Nsofor
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Anxiety and depression are among the most prevalent mental health conditions and significantly affect quality of life, daily functioning, and healthcare utilization among adult patients. Despite strong evidence supporting mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) as effective nonpharmacologic approaches for managing anxiety and depression, these interventions remain underutilized in many clinical settings due to limited staff knowledge and inconsistent referral practices. The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) project was to implement and evaluate a structured staff education program designed to improve staff knowledge of mindfulness-based interventions for adult patients with anxiety and depression. The practice-focused question examined whether staff education on MBIs …

Digital Toolkit: Making Room For Partnership In Information Literacy Instruction, Samantha Legrand, Rachel Fundator
Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations
This digital toolkit provides reflective and practical exercises, examples, and resources to explore how Students as Partners (SaP) pedagogy (Cook-Sather et al., 2014) can transform information literacy (IL) instruction. The toolkit was designed to accompany a workshop presented at LOEX 2026, but can be implemented independently, as well. This approach to IL pedagogy draws on a conceptual model integrating SaP with the Framework for Information Literacy (LeGrand, 2025). The toolkit guides the reader through practical design exercises to engage students’ knowledge and goals within the Frames. Reimagine instruction with asset-based, relational language and design learning for …

Negosiasi Diplomasi Budaya K-Pop Di Indonesia: Studi Kasus Boikot Penggemar Ateez, Dhannya Febryana
Multikultura
This study examines the boycott by Indonesian fans against the K-pop group ATEEZ as part of the dynamics of South Korea’s cultural diplomacy in Southeast Asia. Building on the understanding of K-pop as an important instrument of soft power in South Korea’s cultural diplomacy strategy, this research highlights how regional audiences do not always passively accept such practices. Using a qualitative approach with digital discourse analysis, the study analyzes boycott-related discourses circulating on social media and in online news coverage to explore the narratives, meanings, and cultural implications of this action. The fan boycott is not merely an expression of …

Therapists’ Perspectives On Female Patients’ Recovery From Sexual Violent Trauma Committed By Familiar Offenders, Lauren S. Doran
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A mental health therapist is a licensed professional who is trained to identify any barriers or regression during the recovery process with their female patients’ psychological experiences from sexual violent trauma (SVT) perpetrated by a degree of familiar offenders. In this study, the therapists’ perceptions identified the impact of the SVT committed by a familiar offender toward the female victim’s recovery process. The theoretical foundation included betrayal trauma theory, moral injury, and victimology. The research question addressed how therapists described the psychological recovery of female patients who experienced sexual violence by a familiar offender. The research design was data collection …
A Grounded Theory Approach To Explaining Leadership And Leadership Processes Among Oncology Social Workers, Larmender Amia Davis
A Grounded Theory Approach To Explaining Leadership And Leadership Processes Among Oncology Social Workers, Larmender Amia Davis
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The absence of comprehensive field-specific leadership theories leaves oncology social work leaders insufficiently equipped to navigate organizational challenges such as policy shifts, financial pressures, and workforce dynamics. The purpose of this qualitative grounded theory study was to generate an explanatory theory of leadership grounded in the experiences of social work leaders practicing in oncology settings. The grounded theory and a conceptual framework on leadership processes, ethical identity, and organizational context guided this study. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with 12 oncology social work leaders in the United States. Five categories emerged and were analyzed using the constant comparative method: …
Perceived Influence Of Childhood Domestic Violence Exposure On Intimate Relationships Among Heterosexual African American Men, Ronnie Lyman
Perceived Influence Of Childhood Domestic Violence Exposure On Intimate Relationships Among Heterosexual African American Men, Ronnie Lyman
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Childhood exposure to domestic violence (DV) remains a significant and underexplored issue within clinical social work, particularly as it pertains to African American men. This doctoral project involved addressing limited understanding of how heterosexual African American men who were exposed to DV in childhood perceived these early experiences in terms of shaping their emotional wellbeing and intimate partner relationships in adulthood. Guided by the intergenerational transmission of violence theory, this study involved exploring reflective narratives of men who experienced such exposure. Via a basic qualitative research design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with seven purposefully selected participants who were …

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most prevalent endocrine condition among women of reproductive age. PCOS is known to be a chronic disease that presents significant physical and body image issues, which in turn are associated with lowered emotional and health-related quality of life. Previous studies point to widespread dissatisfaction and delays with the diagnosis of PCOS and a lack of information provided by doctors. This phenomenological study was guided by Wilson and Cleary’s model of health-related quality of life to explore the health-related quality of life in Malaysian women with PCOS. Seven Malaysian women aged 29 to 50 years …
Prototyping For Game Design With Unlv Libraries, Silvey Benson, Amber Sewell
Prototyping For Game Design With Unlv Libraries, Silvey Benson, Amber Sewell
UNLV Best Teaching Practices Expo
Involving students in a hands-on creative way to implement ideation, design, and prototyping skills gives students the opportunity to apply the theory of iterative design. Students analyze and reverse engineer current game designs prior to beginning their own innovations. They are then encouraged to apply innovation and creativity to their own game designs, test the games’ effectiveness through having others play their game and provide feedback, and fail safely in a controlled environment. Students will ideally increase their tolerance for failure through the implementation of the iterative design process while gaining a variety of skills that will serve them outside …

Facilitating Freirean Pedagogy And Asset-Based Learning In An Asynchronous Environment In A Doctoral Public Health Course, Manoj Sharma, Liliana Davlos, Sharmistha Roy
UNLV Best Teaching Practices Expo
The Department of Social and Behavioral Health offers an asynchronous course, Advanced Applications of Social and Behavioral Theories (HED 762), to doctoral students in public health. In this course, commonly used behavior and social change theories are taught. One such theory is the Freirean theory of adult education, which emphasizes dialogue, critical conscientization, praxis, transformation, and critical consciousness. The instructor of this course uses a variety of methods to imbibe this pedagogy that comprise (a) the use of the fourth-generation multi-theory model (MTM) of health behavior change to motivate students, (b) Freirean dialogue in the Canvas discussion forum with students …
Arts Integration: Teaching Through The Senses Just Makes Sense!, Isabella Shenouda, Noah Karnafel, Hongming Xu
Arts Integration: Teaching Through The Senses Just Makes Sense!, Isabella Shenouda, Noah Karnafel, Hongming Xu
UNLV Best Teaching Practices Expo
Arts Integration is a high-impact teaching practice for both higher education and K-12 settings. Because students bring diverse backgrounds, learning preferences, and ways of making meaning, the arts offer flexible, multi-sensory pathways to content comprehension that traditional lecture-based and text-based instruction often cannot. Drawing on classroom evidence from an Honors First-Year Seminar at UNLV in which students identified an arts-based workshop as their favorite lesson, we argue that creative, hands-on activities deepen knowledge retention and foster genuine intellectual engagement. Arts Integration is inherently an asset-based and inclusive practice, as it encourages students to connect through various sensory learning experiences, whether …

Is Less More? An Analysis Of Microblogs Vs. Discussion Forums As Tools For Understanding The Public, Marco Castillo
Is Less More? An Analysis Of Microblogs Vs. Discussion Forums As Tools For Understanding The Public, Marco Castillo
Publications and Research
Social media platforms offer valuable tools for public administrators seeking to assess public sentiment on policy issues, especially in urban areas with diverse stakeholder interests. This study investigates how public administrators can leverage social media by comparing communications on Reddit’s discussion forum platform with X’s microblogging platform. I hypothesize that Reddit fosters more subjective, nuanced discussions, providing richer insights into public sentiment. To test this, sentiment and regression analyses are conducted on communications about urban cycling on both platforms. Results indicate that while Reddit facilitates deeper exploration of public issues, X also effectively assesses public sentiment. The study concludes by …

How Speaker Gender Shapes Audience Perceptions Of Credibility: Responses To Humor, Reed Wilson
Honors Theses
This study aims to answer the question of whether the speaker’s gender, the participant’s gender, or the interaction between the two has an effect on the audience’s opinions of the message and the credibility of the speaker. Public speaking has been and continues to be a tool used by politicians, both on the campaign trail and as they seek to advance their agendas in the public sphere. Politicians use humor to relate to their audience and enhance their likeability and credibility. Google VEO 3’s generative text-to-video AI capabilities were used to create two videos of political speakers, one male and …
Platforms Of Exemption (For New Relations) Within Suburbia And Other Consolidating Hegemonies, Ayden Pritchard
Platforms Of Exemption (For New Relations) Within Suburbia And Other Consolidating Hegemonies, Ayden Pritchard
Honors Theses
Theory is a mode of action that opens up revisionary spaces in the world. By voicing complexity and ambivalence in a situation, disembodied patterns are put in contact with compliant, unclaimed material, and they gain a foothold within the established structures of the present. This paper seeks to sketch the lines of influence that govern association and perception in suburbia, and to speculate the kinds of spaces where new relations between people who are normally segregated can occur. The information presented here hopes to join the reservoir of patterns that structure your everyday theoretical (revisionary) activity, to make changes possible …

International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
in the natural environment. The natural environment, of which humans are an integral part, served as the first laboratory for the production of medicines. Medicinal botany can be traced back to ancient Greece, continued through ancient Rome, was closely linked to Islamic tradition, and persisted through the rise of Christianity in monasteries, enduring to the present day. Monastic botanical gardens serve as living proof of the relationship between humans, nature, healing, and spirituality. These gardens, which for centuries cultivated plants for medicinal, nutritional, and functional uses, can now be leveraged to promote tourism, cultural heritage, and environmental awareness.

Peer Cultural Socialization As A Moderator Of Perceived Discrimination And Ethnic-Racial Identity Exploration Among Korean Adoptees, Josie Braun, Majel Baker, Jae-In Kim, Richard Lee, Elisheva Perelman
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
As peers become increasingly salient sources of affirmation and cultural learning across adolescence and emerging adulthood, peer cultural socialization may play a distinct and critical role in moderating Korean adoptees' exploration of their ethnic-racial identity. This study hypothesized that 1) ethnic-racial discrimination experienced in the past year in adulthood (T3) will be unrelated to exploration of Korean ethnic-racial identity in adulthood (T3). However, peer racial socialization in adulthood (T3) will moderate the relationship between ethnic-racial discrimination experienced in adulthood (T3) and exploration of Korean ethnic-racial identity in adulthood (T3), and 2) ethnic-racial discrimination experienced in the past year in adulthood …

Nonprofit Leaders’ Perceived Top Struggles: A Qualitative Study With Descriptive Quantification Of Capacity, Funding, And Operational Barriers, Angie Holzer
Journal of Nonprofit Innovation
Nonprofit organizations are widely understood to operate under conditions of persistent constraint, yet less is known about how nonprofit leaders themselves perceive and prioritize their struggles. This study presents findings from a qualitative analysis with descriptive quantification of open-ended responses from 77 nonprofit leaders who were asked to identify their biggest challenges. Using thematic coding, frequency counts, and order-based sequencing analysis, the study distinguishes between perceived struggles, immediate needs, and capacity-focused structural blockers. While funding and financial sustainability were the most frequently cited perceived struggles, capacity-related challenges—including board governance, staffing and volunteers, compliance burden, operational systems, and leadership bandwidth—emerged as …
Enhancing Assessment Tools For Foster Youth: A Phenomenological Approach To Preparing For Independent Living, Karen M. Armstead
Enhancing Assessment Tools For Foster Youth: A Phenomenological Approach To Preparing For Independent Living, Karen M. Armstead
Journal of Nonprofit Innovation
Abstract
Foster youth transitioning to independent living often face challenges that extend beyond technical life skills. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of 10 former foster youth (ages 18–21) regarding readiness for independent living and the adequacy of preparation they received. Semi-structured interviews were guided by an 18-question instrument reflecting real-world transition domains commonly addressed by nonprofit independent living programs. Thematic analysis yielded three primary themes: (1) lack of preparation, (2) emotional strain and abandonment, and (3) life skills training. Findings indicate that readiness is multidimensional and shaped by practical preparation, emotional readiness, and relational support. For nonprofit …
Framing Digital Donation: Innovation And Audience Engagement In Short Video Fundraising On Douyin, Qiuyi Chen
Framing Digital Donation: Innovation And Audience Engagement In Short Video Fundraising On Douyin, Qiuyi Chen
Journal of Nonprofit Innovation
Short video platforms are increasingly adopted by nonprofit organizations as tools for charitable communication and fundraising. However, limited research has examined how donation appeals are structured and interpreted within these environments. Existing studies focus on emotional appeal, influencer involvement, and algorithmic visibility, yet donation is often treated as a behavioral outcome rather than as a communicative process.
This study conceptualizes charitable donation as a social situation that must be framed and recognized by audiences in short video contexts. Drawing on Goffman’s frame analysis and employing the Visual–Verbal Video Analysis (VVVA) method, the study analyzes 32 publicly available videos from a …

Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya
This article examines the repatriation of Pita Maha paintings from the 1930s to 1940s, which were returned by the Government of the Netherlands to Indonesia in 2024. Pita Maha, an artistic movement established in Ubud, Bali in 1936, holds an important position in art historiography as a key contributor to the development of modern Balinese painting. The repatriation of these works provides an opportunity to reconsider and expand existing historical narratives. Accordingly, this study aims to contribute to the enrichment of the historiography of modern Balinese painting. The research employs a historical method —encompassing heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography— …
Administrative Burdens In Post-Filing Eviction Prevention Programs: Focusing On Oregon's Safe Harbor Policy, Minji Cho
Homelessness Research & Action Collaborative Publications and Presentations
This study examines the administrative burdens faced by tenants in post-filing eviction prevention programs, focusing on Oregon’s Safe Harbor Policy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Safe Harbor, paired with the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Program, aimed to prevent tenants from being evicted while waiting for rental assistance applications to be processed and for the monies to be disbursed, by inserting a long pause in the otherwise short eviction process. Despite its novelty, tenants in post-filing eviction stages faced challenges with tight timelines and navigating both eviction proceedings and ERA applications. This study demonstrates the administrative burden tenants experienced when securing Safe …
