Environmental Receipts: The Ecological Footprint Of Multilateral Development Banks, Mike Wigdor

This paper assesses whether membership in multilateral development banks (MDBs) is associated with lower ecological footprints. Drawing on country-year data from the 2025 Quality of Government (QoG) Basic Dataset and the Correlates of War (CoW) IGO Dataset, I analyze 1,714 observations from 1970–2008. Ecological footprint (global hectares per capita) is used as the dependent variable, while the central explanatory variable is the total number of MDB memberships annually. I utilize an OLS regression model controlling for logged GDP per capita, regime type, oil production value, urbanization, and economic globalization. This paper examines how effectively China’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have leveraged dual-use shipbuilding to support the naval modernization of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). While China’s commercial shipbuilding sector now dominates the global market and provides SOEs with massive economies of scale, workforce continuity, and supply chain depth, the ability to translate these advantages into advanced naval shipbuilding has been uneven. Drawing on theoretical frameworks of the developmental state and hidden developmental state, this analysis distinguishes between commercial and naval shipbuilding requirements and examines hull-level production data for major U.S. and Chinese surface combatant classes. Through two case studies from India and the United States, we explore how educational policies and standards focused on multilingualism are interpreted and enacted within early childhood education classrooms. Recent education policies in both contexts are aimed at fostering culturally responsive and linguistically inclusive pedagogy for greater academic success for students whose home language(s) differs from the language of instruction. However, the policy implementation varies significantly based on educators’ language ideologies and cultural beliefs. We examine a critical gap between policy intentions and classroom realities. Cichlid fishes have undergone multiple adaptive radiations in the rift lakes of East Africa pairing rapid taxonomic and morphological diversification. Lake Malawi’s rock-dwelling cichlids (mbuna) have diversified into hundreds of species that partition their habitat by depth and diet resulting in high morphological and behavioral diversity. We characterized morphological differences and performed behavioral assays among four cichlid genera from Lake Malawi focused on understanding form-function relationships in the neurocranium and oral feeding apparatus. We characterized neurocranial shape using 3D geometric morphometrics across a large taxonomic sample of mbuna cichlids, focusing primarily on the Tropheops species complex. Print publications establish trust because they imply an inherent vetting process; affluent consumers trust print magazines the most, and print advertisements are significantly more trusted than social media ads. Print provides a respite from digital fatigue, with Worldmetrics finding that readers spend an average of 41 minutes engaging with a printed magazine, far exceeding the 3 to 7 minutes typically spent online. I begin by analyzing the causes of emigration, dividing factors into push and pull, and identifying the most important reasons young Nepalis are leaving the country. Next, I explore the impacts of emigration on Nepali society, explaining why the trend of young people working abroad makes Nepal an artificially aged nation. Women are burdened with caregiving, yet their contributions are frequently undervalued and undercompensated. During the nineteenth century, women worldwide gained the right to vote, access to education, marital freedom, and the right to join the workforce. Yet today, they contribute significantly to unpaid or low-paying care work, tending to domestic responsibilities while participating in the labor force. These roles are motivated by moral or altruistic values rather than financial compensation and provide for needs in childhood, old age, and sickness. In 2018, just three days before the National People’s Congress abolished presidential term limits, Chinese citizens piled into sold-out theaters to watch Amazing China. This 90-minute documentary about China’s rejuvenation under President Xi Jinping has since become the country’s highest-earning documentary. However, reports failed to acknowledge that state-sponsored companies were the sole producers, reviewers, and marketers of the film. Robust Contracting Under Distributional Uncertainty, Jiangtao Li, Kexin Wang

We study contract design when the principal has limited information about the output distributions induced by the agent's actions. In a baseline model where only the means are known, we show that increasing affine contracts are robustly optimal. The mean restrictions accommodate a wide range of output distributions, including extreme cases that help establish this optimality. We then extend the analysis to environments with additional constraints on the distributions. Our main result shows that the robust optimality of increasing affine contracts persists even when the principal knows more—for example, that each action induces a distribution with full support.

The Dominican population of New York City has experienced a significant decline since reaching its peak of 761,333 in 2021, falling by nearly 13% to 663,169 by 2024. This decline does not appear to be driven by reduced immigration from the Dominican Republic, as yearly arrivals have remained at relatively high levels between 2011 and 2023.

This Latino Data Project Report suggests that there has been an important emigration of Dominicans away from New York City to other areas of the United States. It is likely that the Dominican population of New York City will continue to decline into the …

The purpose of this capstone is to examine the physical demands that gaming places on the musculoskeletal system and to gain a deeper understanding of gamers’ habits and behaviors. The goal of this project is to explore the population within its context, including psychosocial impacts and the potential need for intervention. By doing so, this research aims to provide valuable insights to both gamers and clinicians, supporting and enhancing occupational performance in gaming.

This thesis presents a translation from Colonial Valley Zapotec to English of the five poems based on the biblical Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary found in the 1766 Christian catechism attributed to Dominican friar Leonardo Levanto. I analyze the construction of the linguistic strategies revealed by the translation (periphrasis, semantic bifurcation, neologisms, calques, and metaphors) as well as examine the extent to which these constructions were poetic innovations versus drawing on already-established language. Together, the translation and analysis of the Levanto (1766) Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary poems illustrate how language was used as a tool for evangelization in colonial …

This thesis discusses language policies and practices in Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire. These two countries were both colonized by France in the 19th century, and under their rule, French was enforced as an official language across French colonies. After their respective decolonizations in the mid-20th century, Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire diverged in their language policies. Côte d’Ivoire kept French as an official language, and Algeria instead chose Arabic, pursuing a national policy of Arabization. This thesis aims to analyze the factors contributing to these differing policies, while also addressing the language practices, and how they vary from the policies. To …

This mixed-methods, cross-sectional study investigated the associations between childhood emotional neglect, perfectionism, attachment insecurity, and internalizing symptoms (depression and anxiety) among adults from varying socioeconomic (SES) backgrounds. Participants (N = 210) aged 18 years or older completed five validated self-report instruments for the quantitative analyses and answered two optional open-ended questions that yielded qualitative data. Data from the self-report measures were analyzed using independent samples t-tests, linear regressions, and moderation analyses conducted with the PROCESS macro. Three hypotheses were tested in this study. First, participants from high-SES backgrounds reported experiencing emotional neglect more frequently than other maltreatment subtypes (t = …

Changing Lives, Transforming Communities: How Young Feminist Organizations Create Change In Mexico And Kenya, Population Council Kenya

The Young Feminist Organizing (YFO) study was initiated in response to a call for proposals by two anonymous funders to conduct a Participatory Action Research evaluation (PARe) of young feminist movements across Kenya and Mexico. The project was implemented by the Population Council in Kenya and Mexico, with technical support from the GIRL Center, and through a Feminist Advisory Panel (FAP) and a Core Participatory Evaluation Community (Core PARe). The study's duration was 31 months, starting from September 2022 to March 2025. This end-of-project report summarizes the key findings, lessons learned, challenges encountered, mitigation strategies employed, and emerging opportunities.

The Nawiri Project used a core Participatory Action Research Evaluation (PARe) approach to explore the landscape of young feminist organizing/organizations (YFOs) in Kenya and Mexico. The project aimed to synthesize evidence on YFOs’ context, impact, and strengths. In Kenya, the core PARe team included nine young feminists and seven Feminist Advisory Panel (FAP) members, who collaborated with Population Council, Kenya from the project’s inception to dissemination. To define and measure impact, the team conducted five case studies with YFO leadership, nine focus group discussions with YFO beneficiaries, 31 key informant interviews with current and previous partners, and cost and benefit …
