Tunisia and Italy: Politics and Religious Integration in the Mediterranean

This study investigates how gender and social class influence the frequency and motivations for code-switching among young Tunisians. Following the French Protectorate (1881) and subsequent Arabization policies in the late 20th century, Tunisian youth are faced with a complex linguistic environment. This paper posits that the enduring legacies of prestige and gender norms drive variation in the frequency and motivation behind code-switching among Tunisian men and women. Based on a quantitative survey and qualitative interviews, this research examines how these social factors shape the function and meaning of language choice in post-colonial Tunisia. This study examines irregular migration and the lived experiences of migrants and asylum seekers in Tunisia, focusing on how individuals navigate prolonged transit in the absence of legal status, protection, and formal rights. Based on qualitative interviews with eight migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa, and Sudanese refugees displaced by mass violence, the research approaches migration not as a single act of movement but as an extended condition shaped by housing, employment, mobility, and access to safety. This research examines how tourism has transformed the lives of Indigenous women in Huilloc, Peru, specifically through the sale of woven textiles. Through a documentary, the study analyzes how the commercialization of their crafts has expanded the economic opportunities available to the weavers, supporting their financial autonomy. It also explores women’s empowerment, including new gender dynamics, greater independence within the household, and increased recognition from the community. The use of documentary film allows the women's voices to be amplified in their own language and cultural context, reinforcing their capacity and autonomy to narrate their stories from their own perspective.

This case study employs a qualitative approach to elucidate barriers and enablers to TGD health and gender-affirming care in Switzerland. This study examines migration of people and international trade in Germany and Austria between 2000 and 2024. Both countries saw sharp rises in immigrant populations, with foreign-born residents reaching 18 percent in Germany and 22 percent in Austria, while their exports grew to record levels. The research explores whether human capital migration like workers bringing skills, education, and networks has complemented or substituted trade. Evidence shows migration often reduces barriers to commerce by creating trust, demand for home-country goods, and professional connections. Neuroticism is a trait which has been shown to significantly predict psychopathology. Investigating its neurobiological underpinnings may uncover a brain-based relationship that allows clinicians to conceptualize a shared predispositional factor across multiple psychopathologies, implicating treatment protocols. Inter-connectivity network and structural variation has been shown to be implicated in neuroticism, more specifically the frontoparietal network, default mode network, salience networks, and limbic networks. These networks tackle executive, salience, and emotional information, respectively. This quantitative correlational study examined the relationship between success on the Limited X-Ray Machine Operator (LXMO) exam and first-attempt pass rates on the national registry exam among radiologic technology students in Minnesota. The radiologic technology field faces significant challenges, including a 14.9% national attrition rate, workforce shortages, and limited availability of clinical sites. This research explored whether LXMO certification could serve as an innovative approach to address these interrelated issues. Data were collected from the Minnesota Department of Health and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, spanning 2000-2024, and identified n=24 students who had completed both exams. This study aims to validate and evaluate satellite remote sensing observations from the Landsat series over 135 lakes in the Adirondack State Park, located in upstate New York, and to examine their surface temperature trends over the past 40 years. It utilizes data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), along with Landsat 5 and 7. Park-scale results were derived by extracting MODIS surface temperatures within the park boundary, while lake-scale results were estimated using Landsat 5 (1984-2012) and Landsat 7 (1999-2023) observations. We report the results from three experiments examining people’s preferences for using sarcasm in conversation as a function of: 1. whether their interlocutor uses sarcasm during the conversation; 2. Their knowledge about whether the interlocutor has used sarcasm in a previous conversation; 3. The presence of prosodical and visual cues for interlocutors’ sarcasm. In each experiment, participants took part in two conversations, and we manipulated whether the interlocutors were sincere or sarcastic and whether they remained the same or changed from one conversation to the next. When LGBTQ+ people get married, they enter into a union that promises mutual reliance and caregiving, such as in the event of financial need or health care crisis. This mixed-methods study explores how 484 married LGBTQ+ individuals in the United States (192 cisgender men, 186 cisgender women, 106 trans/nonbinary) (a) negotiate disability (38% of couples) and illness in the context of unpaid and paid labor divisions, (b) provide care for each other, and (c) receive support from family in the face of health or financial needs. In this paper, I investigate the relationship between the total number of international organizations a state is involved in and its military expenditures as a percentage of GDP. Utilizing both qualitative and quantitative analysis, I find support for my hypothesis that the more international organizations a state is a member of, the less a state will expend on its military.
