Bridging Worlds, Leading Libraries My Global Latin Way: Exploring Cross Cultural Leadership In A Connected World, Chloe Vicente
Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library
This lecture presented at Texas Woman’s University in January 2025 examines the evolution of cross-cultural leadership in libraries through an innovative theoretical framework that synthesizes Goleman's emotional intelligence model (Goleman, 1995), Morin's theories (Morin, 2001), and Olarongbe's cross-cultural leadership paradigm (Olarongbe, 2023). Through a mixed-methods approach combining autoethnographic analysis with comparative case studies across French, Chilean, and American library systems, the study describes the emergence of my "Latin Way" leadership model mainly characterized by adaptability and community-centeredness and identifies three key dimensions of effective cross-cultural library leadership: the critical role of cultural competency in institutional transformations; the integration of traditional …

Within Islamic traditions, the white cloth applied to the deceased's body takes on various changes, modifications, and deeper meanings when individuals contextualize their own beliefs and experiences through it. This study focuses on the shroud's role in Islamic death rituals in Java, revealing a multiplicity of meanings as theorized by Mikhail Bakhtin's concept of heteroglossia. By employing a pragmatic semiotic approach, this research interprets and analyses the symbols that emerge from the contextualization of these textiles within Javanese death rituals. The study’s …

This study explores the moral ontology of law within the framework of Legal Realism, contextualizing law as both a social institution and an institution of justice. Drawing on Joseph Raz's perspectives on practical reason, normativity, and the foundations of norms, the analysis examines how law, as a practical guide, inherently carries moral dimensions in regulating social interactions and pursuing justice. Legal Realism frames law as a dynamic product of human interaction within a social context, while Raz's philosophical insights illuminate the interplay between practical reasoning, normativity, and legal structures. By focusing on the moral underpinnings of legal norms, this paper …

Women’s happiness can be influenced by various factors, including marital status. This study analyzes the relationship between marital status and women's happiness in Indonesia using pooled crossectional data from the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) wave 4 & 5 in 2007 and 2014. The probit regression method is applied to estimate the impact of marital status on the probability of happiness. Results show that widowed and/or divorced women have significantly lower probabilities of happiness than married women (p-value < 0.01). In addition, the probability of being happy for women who are divorced is higher than those who are widowed (p-value < 0.1). This study also emphasizes that education has an important role in improving women's happiness. The implications of this study suggest the importance of policy interventions to improve access to education for women, particularly for those who are socially and economically vulnerable.

Jurnal Ekonomi Kependudukan dan Keluarga
Poverty is a dynamic, diverse, and multidimensional concept. Its definition has evolved over time, moving from a monetary focus to a multidimensional perspective. Although poverty reduction has long been a critical issue, few studies have examined the role of the internet in addressing multidimensional poverty. To bridge this gap in the literature, this study explores the impact of internet access on multidimensional poverty in Indonesia, using data from the 2023 Susenas survey. Based on Propensity Score Matching results, evidence shows that internet access negatively affects multidimensional poverty. This research underscores the importance of internet access, highlighting the need for policies …
Network Analysis Of Headache Diagnoses Using International Classification Of Headache Disorders, 3rd Edition, Pengfei Zhang, Thomas Berk
Network Analysis Of Headache Diagnoses Using International Classification Of Headache Disorders, 3rd Edition, Pengfei Zhang, Thomas Berk
College of Nursing Faculty Papers & Presentations
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The International Classification of Headache Disorders, Third Edition (ICHD-3), significantly influences clinicians' understanding of headache disorders. In this study, we aim to elucidate how the hierarchical structure of ICHD-3 shapes the understanding of interconnectivity among headache disorders.
METHODS: A network comprises elements known as "nodes," with the connections between them referred to as "edges." In our study, a node represents a headache diagnosis that meets at least one ICHD-3 diagnostic criterion of the ICHD-3. We developed two network models for ICHD-3: a non-hierarchical model, where edges are only formed by cross-references found within the text of diagnoses, …

Analysis Of Erosion Rates In North Jakarta For Predicting The Ages Of North Sunter And Pluit Reservoirs, Listyo Yudha Irawan, Ghairandi Al Abrar, Mohammad Tahir B Mapa, Adi Jafar, Shafi Noor Islam, Siti Nur Farihah, Febrian Eka Ardiansyah
Jurnal Pendidikan Geografi: Kajian, Teori, dan Praktek dalam Bidang Pendidikan dan Ilmu Geografi
The Pluit and North Sunter Reservoirs play a critical role in the city’s hydrological infrastructure, particularly in meeting the increasing water demands driven by population growth. However, continuous population shifts, deforestation, and changes in land use have led to sediment accumulation, affecting both water quality and the reservoirs’ operational lifespan. This study aims to evaluate the erosion rate and predict the potential lifespans of the Sunter Utara and Pluit Reservoirs. This research was conducted by integrating Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing using Sentinel-2 datasets and the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) method to calculate sediment accumulation. The findings indicate …

“It Is Such A Hidden Curriculum Thing”: Graduate Students’ Perceptions Of Publishing, Christy Caldwell, Martha Stuit, Lucia Orlando
Journal of Graduate Librarianship
Becoming published authors presents a learning curve for graduate students. Publishing literacy is part of the hidden curriculum of graduate school because publishing is generally not taught consistently but more commonly through ad hoc conversations with advisors, advice from peers, and the occasional workshop. Our study surveyed graduate students at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) who had already published or were expecting to publish journal articles. Survey questions asked students about the publishing process, defined by us as the stage of the post-writing process when a manuscript is ready to publish. Our data demonstrate that publishing expectations are …
