The Impact Of Health And Environmental Messaging With And Without Product Filtering In Complex Retail Markets: The Case Of Pulses, Christopher R. Gustafson, Henriette Gitungwa, Sushil C. Sapkota, Devin J. Rose Sep 2024

The Impact Of Health And Environmental Messaging With And Without Product Filtering In Complex Retail Markets: The Case Of Pulses, Christopher R. Gustafson, Henriette Gitungwa, Sushil C. Sapkota, Devin J. Rose

Department of Agricultural Economics: Faculty Publications

Introduction: Multiple barriers exist to healthy and environmentally sustainable food choices. Limited consumer understanding of the health and environmental implications of food choices complicates their abilities to make choices that lead to desired outcomes. The complexity of the retail environment itself may crowd out less immediate motivations to address health or environment. Even if consumers understand general impacts of food choices on health and environmental outcomes, there may be non-negligible time and search costs to identifying the products that meet consumers’ needs. In many food categories, the foods containing attributes that help achieve health and sustainability outcomes may represent …

Building Resilience: Three Decades Of Cultural Heritage Emergency Preparedness And Response In Georgia, Tina Mason Seetoo, Christine S. Wiseman Sep 2024

Building Resilience: Three Decades Of Cultural Heritage Emergency Preparedness And Response In Georgia, Tina Mason Seetoo, Christine S. Wiseman

Provenance, Journal of the Society of Georgia Archivists

Georgia is a geographically diverse state with a growing population. Its vast and varied natural, cultural, and historic (NCH) resources contribute significantly to the state’s economy, yet they are at risk of damage from disasters. The awareness of the need for emergency planning for NCH collections has grown over the past three decades. Federal funding has always played an important part in this effort even if the focus of training has evolved over the years. This need can only be met with support from State and Federal agencies, networking, and outreach beyond the urban centers in Georgia. Through research, interviews, …

An Introduction To Infophilia, A Positive Psychology Of Information, Anita S. Coleman

Library Research Seminar 8: Telling Library Stories

This paper will tell some of the stories of infophilia, a positive psychology of information, avant-garde research. The goal of Brenda Dervin’s ground-breaking research was not just to develop the sense-making theory, framework, and tools, but also to “invent communication alternatives and assess their utility.” One of the ‘practice communication inventions’ of Brenda Dervin was the ‘Good news newsletter’ where she developed infosheets for doctors, schools, and medical clinics (Neill, 1992, p. 6). I am no Brenda Dervin. But I am a strongly interdisciplinary scholar who has been a tenured librarian, LIS school faculty, library director, publisher for the voiceless, …

Political Articulation Of Gus Mus’ Asceticism In Strengthening The Role Of Nu As A Moral Force In National Politics, Khoiron Khoiron, Hirshi Anadza, Abdul Wahid M

Jurnal Wacana Politik

This study reveals the practice of articulation of ascetic politics carried out by Gus Mus amidst the strong democratic regime that dictated the process of contestation of power at the NU Congress in 2015 in Jombang. The practice of articulation of asceticism is political, because he always changes his identity. As a subject, Gus Mus often changes positions, such as a kiai and a cultural figure. This position is called the subject position. This study explores the creation of a new identity in contemporary politics using Laclau’s articulation theory within a post-structuralist case study research design. Therefore, the main argument …

Inequities Analysis In Local Own-Source Revenue Potential Between Regencies And Municipalities In Indonesia, Muhammad Ilham Husni Zarkasi, Halilul Khairi, Ella Lesmanawaty Wargadinata* Sep 2024

Inequities Analysis In Local Own-Source Revenue Potential Between Regencies And Municipalities In Indonesia, Muhammad Ilham Husni Zarkasi, Halilul Khairi, Ella Lesmanawaty Wargadinata*

Jurnal Wacana Politik

One of the underlying factors contributing to the low revenue of Local Own-Source Revenue (PAD) lies in the suboptimal utilization of PAD sources, notably stemming from shifts in economic structures, tax capacity, and imposed retributions. This study aims to analyze the inequality of PAD potential between regencies and municipalities, which results in the ratio of PAD to Local Government Budget (APBD) in regencies being significantly different from municipalities. This study aims to unveil the nuanced intricacies of PAD potential disparities by employing a mixed-method approach encompassing descriptive quantitative and qualitative analyses to capture comprehensive analysis. Data collected from scientific papers …

Understanding The Use Of Artificial Intelligence In Cybercrime, Sinyong Choi, Thomas Dearden, Katalin Parti

International Journal of Cybersecurity Intelligence & Cybercrime

Artificial intelligence is one of the newest innovations that offenders also exploit to satisfy their criminal desires. Although understanding cybercrimes associated with this relatively new technology is essential in developing proper preventive measures, little has been done to examine this area. Therefore, this paper provides an overview of the articles featured in the special issue of the International Journal of Cybersecurity Intelligence and Cybercrime, ranging from deepfake in the metaverse to social engineering attacks. This issue includes articles that were presented by the winners of the student paper competition at the 2024 International White Hat Conference.

Integrated Model Of Cybercrime Dynamics: A Comprehensive Framework For Understanding Offending And Victimization In The Digital Realm, Troy Smith Phd

International Journal of Cybersecurity Intelligence & Cybercrime

This article introduces the Integrated Model of Cybercrime Dynamics (IMCD), a novel theoretical framework for examining the complex interplay between individual characteristics, online behavior, environmental factors, and outcomes related to cybercrime offending and victimization. The model incorporates key concepts from existing theories, empirical evidence, and interdisciplinary perspectives to provide a comprehensive framework. In contrast to traditional criminological theories, the proposed model integrates concepts from multiple disciplines to offer a holistic framework that captures the complexity of cybercrime and specifically caters for the uniqueness of cyberspace. The article will provide a detailed overview of the conceptual model, its theoretical underpinnings drawing …

White, Martin Voracek, Ulrich S. Tran, Toivo Aavik, Hamed Abdollahpour Ranjbar, Sulaiman Olanrewaju Adebayo, Reza Afhami, Oli Ahmed, David A. Frederick

Psychology Faculty Articles and Research

Detachment from nature is contributing to the environmental crisis and reversing this trend requires detailed monitoring and targeted interventions to reconnect people to nature. Most tools measuring nature exposure and attachment were developed in high-income countries and little is known about their robustness across national and linguistic groups. Therefore, we used data from the Body Image in Nature Survey to assess measurement invariance of the Nature Exposure Scale (NES) and the Connectedness to Nature Scale (CNS) across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups (N = 56,968). While multi-group confirmatory factor analysis (MG-CFA) of the NES supported …

Adam Smith, Human Betterment, And His Erroneous Indentification With Self-Interested Human Action, Vernon L. Smith Sep 2024

Adam Smith, Human Betterment, And His Erroneous Indentification With Self-Interested Human Action, Vernon L. Smith

ESI Publications

In this essay I discuss the proposition that Adam Smith has been widely misinterpreted as asserting in his second book, The Wealth of Nations, that emergent modern economies are driven by the strictly selfish motives of their human inhabitants. The propositions articulated in his first book, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, which offered a theory of society, extended seamlessly into his second book, and continued to be part of his theory of economy. In both works, he distinguished the universal state of being self-interested from actions taken in one's self-interest, and modeled people as creating and following rules of propriety …
