This article examines the servant-leadership of Martin Luther King Jr. through a book review of Jonathan Eig’s landmark biography King: A Life and an interview with the author. The article begins with a reflection on King’s servant-leadership through Greenleaf’s notions of power, strength, and growth through loss. Implications for servant-leader moral development based on reports of possible ethical failures by King are also considered.

The application of servant-leadership in crisis response within Catholic higher education has not been explored. Thus, this essay analyzes the Boland Hall Fire at Seton Hall University to further understand the nuances of servant-leadership in times of crises, and to examine how the principles of servant-leadership can play and cultivate institution-wide healing. By studying artifacts that display how Seton Hall University’s President, administration, and students displayed servant-leadership, this case study emphasizes the role of servant-leadership as an advantagous tool for Catholic higher education leaders in times of crisis.

Servant-leadership and academic advising are closely related concepts. Both are concerned with supporting the growth and development of others through intentional influence processes. While some research has been done to explore the conceptual connections between them, little has been done to identify the specific practices of servant-advisors. This article examines the principles and practices of servant-leadership and offers insight regarding specific practices of servant-leadership that relate to academic advising. These include managing one’s motives, relationship building, compassionate communication, and positive coaching.

Yale Working Papers in Grammatical Diversity

In this paper, we discuss a series of constructions across various English dialects involving the word many, drawing examples from the Dictionary of American Regional English (DARE) and web searches. The constructions include both standard and colloquial forms, including formally singular and plural constructions, as well as those employing a lot of and a great many. We connect these constructions to existing linguistic analyses, particularly those proposed by Kayne (2002, 2006, 2007a,b, 2017).

Motivation to serve is conceptualised as an antecedent of servant-leadership but is mostly studied from the leaders’ perspective. Yet, as in any dyadic relationship, exploring the followers’ perspective is crucial, particularly as servant-leadership is an acclaimed follower-centric leadership theory. Hence, this quantitative study is a departure from the norm with a focus on the followers’ motivation to serve (MTS). This paper discusses the use of one as a disjunction marker occurring immediately after a DisjP, such as He was in Tennessee or Kentucky, one. Little research has been published on this construction, which is used predominantly by Southern American English speakers. My project aims to fill this gap in the literature by describing the distribution of one and examining various hypotheses for its syntactic derivation using data from Montgomery (2004) and the Yale Grammatical Diversity Project. Based on my descriptive analysis, I propose to treat this "alternative one" as a proform and matrix clause adjunct.

Infrastructure development in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) requires diversified financing strategies to address a significant funding shortfall that cannot be met by domestic resources alone. This research evaluates the contributions of external financing—namely Official Development Assistance (ODA), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and Private Participation in Infrastructure (PPI)—in complementing domestic efforts to advance infrastructure in SSA. It examines their influence, alongside governance, on the development of physical and social infrastructure components. Microplastics (MPs) and other anthropogenic particles (APs) are pervasive environmental contaminants found throughout marine and aquatic environments. We quantified APs in the edible tissue of black rockfish, lingcod, Chinook salmon, Pacific herring, Pacific lamprey, and pink shrimp, comparing AP burdens across trophic levels and between vessel-retrieved and retail-purchased individuals. Edible tissue was digested and analyzed under a microscope, and a subset of suspected APs was identified using spectroscopy (μFTIR). Anthropogenic particles were found in 180 of 182 individuals. Finfish contained 0.02–1.08 AP/g of muscle tissue. In pink shrimp (Pandalus jordani), the average AP/g was 10.68 for vessel-retrieved and …

The study examined the effects of monetary policy on the economic growth of some developing and developed economies. This study selected 33 countries grouped into 11 each as first-group, second-group, and third-group countries and showed how monetary policy has influenced their economic growth in the past 40 years, capturing the economic growth performances before and after the global financial crisis. The study aims to explain the relationship of financial literacy with spending habits and behavior. Financial behavior is a mediator of Generation Z. Financial literacy is a very important dimension in making financial decisions, and this research highlighted the direct and indirect impacts that financial literacy exerts on spending behavior. Data is collected from 317 respondents using a structured questionnaire measuring financial literacy, financial behavior, and spending behavior. Correlation, regression, mediation analysis, and Structural Equation Modeling have been used in evaluating these relationships. Youth in traditionally marginalized communities are often the target of policies and practices without the opportunity to provide input. This article highlights effective strategies to empower youth to become active participants in their communities. Using a Youth Participatory Empowerment Model (YPEM), youth participants from six demographically distinct communities engaged in YPEM-supported activities and strategies to identify and address a need within their community. To gain insight into successful strategies, qualitative data from pre and post implementation focus group interviews and observational field notes informed the conclusions. Norway and the United States boast diverse and equal societies. Both have attempted to implement multicultural policies to facilitate immigrants' integration into the host society. Engaging with the theories of racism, xenophobia, and multiculturalism, this paper analyzes the immigrant unemployment outcomes from Norway and the United States from 2015-2020 to identify patterns and anticipate causal relationships from these patterns. Standardized data from both countries show that immigrants from Global South countries have far worse employment outcomes than immigrants from Global North countries.
