Fuzzy Ahp To Prioritize Strategy For Social Enterprises’ Sustainability, Putri Mega Desiana, M. Syamsul Maarif, Herien Puspitawati, Riani Rachmawati

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Social Enterprise (SE) is an exciting phenomenon. Many SEs carry out activities that might be avoided by ordinary businesses pursuing profit but instead become the main targets of SE activities that have a social mission. Thus, building SE sustainability is more difficult because the problems are complex, and most SE is MSME with resource constraints. SE should be able to pick the best strategies, considering their limited resources and changing demand from the ecosystem. This research aims to formulate the priority strategies for SE sustainability. This research employs both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Three key factors and ten elements …

Sustainable Development Goals In The Tourism Industry (Case Study Of The Hospitality Industry In Central Kalimantan, Indonesia), Bhayu Rhama, Ferry Setiawan

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development

Tourism is one way to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but there has been no evaluation of whether the accommodation industry which has a consumptive character plays a role in creating sustainable development. Hotel accommodation that has a global network cannot avoid the consumptive aspect that emphasizes luxury so that it exploits resources such as electricity and is not environmentally friendly. The study uses a qualitative approach to evaluate the theory of consumption and further development using two hotels with global networks in Central Kalimantan focusing on the environment because of its proximity to the White and Half-White National …

The Warrior To Scholar Identity Transformation, Eliberto Trevizo Calderon Jul 2022

The Warrior To Scholar Identity Transformation, Eliberto Trevizo Calderon

Organization, Information and Learning Sciences ETDs

ABSTRACT

This qualitative emergent study investigated the identity transformation experiences of enlisted combat student veterans (ECSVs) from warriors into scholars at the University of New Mexico (UNM). ECSVs are a sub-population of the student veteran community who served in military combat jobs and thus underwent a military indoctrination process that inculcated a warrior identity in them. When ECSVs bring the warrior identity with them to campus, it may conflict with the scholar identity, causing them to struggle to assimilate into the university environment. The study used semi-structured individual interviews and a focus group for data collection and open, thematic, and …

Using Nudges To Increase Engagement With Suicide Prevention Resources In An Online Sample Of United State Military Veterans, Brian W. Bauer Jul 2022

Using Nudges To Increase Engagement With Suicide Prevention Resources In An Online Sample Of United State Military Veterans, Brian W. Bauer

Dissertations

Suicide rates have continually increased from 1999 to 2019 in the United States, with populations such as military Veterans showing substantially higher suicide death and attempt rates than civilians. Behavioral economics researchers have demonstrated that people regularly make decisions that are not aligned with their own self-interests (i.e., irrational decisions). These irrational decisions often stem from humans having bounded rationality (i.e., limited computational power), which produce reliable cognitive biases that occur outside of people’s awareness and influence the decisions they make. There are many important decisions leading up to a suicide attempt (e.g., whether to engage with suicide prevention resources), …

A Recipe For Ageing Well, Centre For Research On Successful Ageing (Rosa), Smu Office Of Research

Research@SMU Infographics

Singapore is getting older, and its citizens may now be living longer than ever, but a longer lifespan is only one part of the equation of ageing well. Healthspan, the period of time that one remains in good health, matters too! SMU’s Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) strives to conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary research on issues relating to the well-being of ageing populations. At a Policy Roundtable that was supported by The Ngee Ann Kongsi philanthropic organisation and the Ministry of Education, Singapore, ROSA researchers presented their findings aimed at increasing the healthspan of Singapore’s older population.

Increasing numbers of children with known genetic conditions and/or intellectual disability are referred for evaluation of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), highlighting the need to refine autism symptom measures to facilitate differential diagnoses in children with cognitive and language impairments. Previous studies have reported decreased specificity of ASD screening and diagnostic measures in children with intellectual disability. However, little is known about how cognitive and language abilities impact the measurement of specific ASD symptoms in this group. We aggregated a large sample of young children (N = 1196; aged 31-119 months) to examine measurement invariance of ASD symptoms among minimally verbal …

Tracking And Estimating The Commingling Of Missing U.S. Service Personnel: A Gis And Forensic Anthropological Approach, Mason Mckinney Jul 2022

Tracking And Estimating The Commingling Of Missing U.S. Service Personnel: A Gis And Forensic Anthropological Approach, Mason Mckinney

Department of Anthropology: Theses and Student Research

During times of war, the remains of fallen U.S. military service members overseas are often difficult to track postmortem as they move from their recovery location to a permanent cemetery. After a recovery, remains are typically sent to multiple temporary cemeteries, morgues, and/or identification points before reaching their final resting place. Repeated disinterments and reinterments among vast numbers of remains in multiple temporary locations may lead to unintended commingling. This analysis is meant to examine the postmortem movement of multiple U.S. military members and assess their potential for commingling based on historical records and identification reports supplied by the Defense …

Distress And Growth In The Black Community, Devin A. Noel-Harrison Jul 2022

Distress And Growth In The Black Community, Devin A. Noel-Harrison

Research Psychology Theses

Racial discrimination is an unfortunate reality that people of color regularly experience. This leaves lasting impacts on the health of individuals and communities. With the increased use of social media, videos depicting violence against black bodies are widely circulated. The consequences of being exposed to these race related traumatic events online (TEO) can be damaging to the mental health of the black community, maybe even more so if one’s racial identity is important and salient to their overall wellbeing. Though witnessing these race related TEO often lead to posttraumatic stress, positive change may also be possible known as posttraumatic growth.

The Impact Of Mobile Technology-Delivered Interventions On Youth Well-Being: Systematic Review And 3-Level Meta-Analysis, Colleen Conley, Elizabeth B. Raposa, Kate Bartolotta, Sarah E. Broner, Maya Hareli, Nicola Forbes, Kirsten M. Christensen, Mark Assink

Psychology: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Background: Rates of mental health problems among youth are high and rising, whereas treatment seeking in this population remains low. Technology-delivered interventions (TDIs) appear to be promising avenues for broadening the reach of evidence-based interventions for youth well-being. However, to date, meta-analytic reviews on youth samples have primarily been limited to computer and internet interventions, whereas meta-analytic evidence on mobile TDIs (mTDIs), largely comprising mobile apps for smartphones and tablets, have primarily focused on adult samples.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mTDIs for a broad range of well-being outcomes in unselected, at-risk, and clinical samples of …

The Sri Lanka Paradox : Part – Ii, Ishrat Husain Dr. Jul 2022

The Sri Lanka Paradox : Part – Ii, Ishrat Husain Dr.

Faculty Research - Newspaper and Magazine Articles

Sri Lanka recorded a rapid increase in public debt-to-GDP ratio to 119 per cent from 42 per cent over a few years. Access to the international capital market was lost, export earnings plummeted, and import payments swelled up due to global price increases, prompting depletion of foreign exchange reserves to critically dangerous levels. Export earnings from tourism – which were $4.4 billion in 2018 or 5.6 per cent of GDP – dipped to 0.8 per cent of GDP. Remittances started drying up too, shrinking from $612 million in April 2021 to $205 million by February 2022. Petroleum prices tripled from …

When Do Security Markets Aggregate Dispersed Information?, Brice Corgnet, Cary Deck, Mark Desantis, Kyle Hampton, Erik O. Kimbrough

ESI Publications

We attempt to replicate a seminal paper that offered support for the rational expectations hypothesis and reported evidence that markets with certain features aggregate dispersed information. The original results are based on only a few observations, and our attempt to replicate the key findings with an appropriately powered experiment largely fails. The resulting poststudy probability that market performance is better described by rational expectations than the prior information (Walrasian) model under the conditions specified in the original paper is very low. As a result of our failure to replicate, we investigate an alternate set of market features that combines aspects …
