Comparing The Impact Of Housing Purchase Restrictions On House Prices In Guangzhou And Shenzhen, Chunxia Tan
Comparing The Impact Of Housing Purchase Restrictions On House Prices In Guangzhou And Shenzhen, Chunxia Tan
SOC 605 Comparative Social Policy Research Project - Student Works
This paper will quantify the housing restriction policies in Guangzhou Shenzhen using the principal component analysis of previous researchers. The correlation coefficient between the quantified results of the policies from 2012-2021 and the house prices from 2012-2021 will be calculated and the conclusion shows that as the housing restriction policies increase (become stricter) it does not cause house prices to fall, it only eases the rate of house price increase. This is consistent with the results of the questionnaire research. A quantitative study was also conducted to assess the effect of individual policies, using the example of Shenzhen's "Reference Price …
Multidimensional Case Study Of Age-Friendly Cities And Communities In Hong Kong, Tokyo And Singapore, Wai Yi Cheng
Multidimensional Case Study Of Age-Friendly Cities And Communities In Hong Kong, Tokyo And Singapore, Wai Yi Cheng
SOC 605 Comparative Social Policy Research Project - Student Works
This multidimensional case study aims to capture the urban characteristics of age-friendly cities and communities in three international cities, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Singapore. As the aging population has become global phenomena, various aging ideologies were proposed to address the issues caused by the significant demographic shift. The four common aging ideologies: healthy aging, productive aging, successful aging, and active aging that is widely adopted in age-friendly development; apart from the above aging ideologies, positive aging, a distinctive branch found in geropsychology study suggested that individual’s preparedness is as important as societal readiness emphasized in the four environment-related wellbeing regarding …

Social Capital And Educational Well-Being: A Systematic Review (2010-2022), Pui Yiu Ho
SOC 605 Comparative Social Policy Research Project - Student Works
Social capital is evidenced as beneficial to educational achievements and it’s believed as important for students. Recent research of social capital and education moves beyond illustrating the effects of social capital on education achievements to a more comprehensive interrelationship between social capital and different aspects in development of students. To delineate the association between social capital and education in different aspects, this paper aims to systematically review quantitative studies examining the association between social capital and educational well-being. Three questions are of concern here. Question 1: Is there association relationship between social capital and educational well-being? Question 2: …
An Investigation Of ‘Restrictive Practices’ Within Services For Adults With An Intellectual Disability: Perspectives Of Professionals And Those Involved With Their Care., Rebecca Donovan
Theses
Restrictive practices “are an infringement of a person’s fundamental rights to personal liberty and bodily integrity” (Health Information and Quality Authority, 2019, p.1). The most recent study in Ireland, found 23% of the 627 inspection reports by HIQA, human-right were violated by the use of restrictive practices (Murphy and Bantry- White, 2021). It is recognised that the core function of restrictive practices is to stop, or prevent, an individual from doing something they wish to do, in such a way that manages challenging behaviour outbursts, and provides safety for both staff and service users (Nankervis and Chan, 2021). The uncertain …
An Appreciative Inquiry Of Community Based Disability Sports And Physical Activity Provision To Guide Future Development, Jennifer O Carroll Reidy
An Appreciative Inquiry Of Community Based Disability Sports And Physical Activity Provision To Guide Future Development, Jennifer O Carroll Reidy
Theses
In 2008, the Irish Sports Inclusion Disability Programme (SIDP) was established to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in a variety of sports and physical activity. Regular monitoring has been sporadic and disparate (Sport Ireland, 2016). Using the four-stage method of Appreciative Inquiry (Cooperrider, 1987), a series of interviews was undertaken with providers of the SIDP. Fourteen Coordinators, SIDOs and sports development workers were interviewed about the strengths, impacts and future for the SIDP. Six participants of the programmes also took part in a focus group concerning their perspectives of the current state and future potential for the …

University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
In the era of information technology and the Internet, travel apps have become a significant element influencing modern travel behavior. However, research in this context remains limited in the tourism literature. This paper aimed to investigate the factors that influence intentions to continue using travel apps in the post-COVID-19 crisis in Algeria. A convenience sample of 380 Algerian tourists was surveyed, and a total of 244 questionnaires were collected over three months. The method used to test the proposed hypotheses empirically was the multiple regression analysis using SPSS 26. Results showed that attitude, perceived behavior control (PBC), degree of satisfaction, …
The Village Law In Indonesia As Mechanism To Support Decentralisation In Tourism, Masrura R. Idjal
The Village Law In Indonesia As Mechanism To Support Decentralisation In Tourism, Masrura R. Idjal
University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
This study aims to evaluate the mechanism of Indonesia's village-level tourist planning and development decision-making process following the adoption of the Village Law (Law No. 6 of 2014). The Village Law aimed to alter the concept of authority, how villages developed, including in terms of tourism. The village Law is a component of Indonesia's decentralized governance structure, which has been in place for the past 20 years. Decentralization is the process by which national government functions such as administration, financing, and authority are transferred to local governments. The Village Law was enacted to give the village government greater power, authority, …

Inclusion In Decision Making Of Under-Served And Invisible Communities, Wie Yusuf
Inclusion In Decision Making Of Under-Served And Invisible Communities, Wie Yusuf
School of Public Service Faculty Publications
Summary: Under-served and invisible communities have the characteristic of being historically left out of decision-making processes that affect them. They include rural communities, tribal communities, low-wealth communities, and marginalized communities. While engaging these communities, planners, academics, and government officials need to acknowledge and respect their priorities, needs, and capacity to participate. Researchers must acknowledge that some communities have good reasons to be skeptical of researchers, government officials, and outsiders. These communities may have been over-studied, but not on their own terms or in ways that benefited them. Sustained long-term engagement focused on natural and meaningful benefits to the community contributes …
Research-Practice Collaborations To Address Equity Through Implementable, On-The-Ground Coastal Resilience Projects, Wie Yusuf
School of Public Service Faculty Publications
Summary. The discussion of research-practice collaborations to address equity through implementable, on-the-ground projects and programs converged around several interconnected themes that included: (1) prioritizing equity focus in defining and measuring projects’ success, (2) involving local communities in projects early on and through long-term monitoring, using interdisciplinary teams, and (3) incentivizing such projects through proper resourcing. Prioritizing equity in project measurement is only possible with the community’s involvement, and proper resourcing would ensure that community partners are resourced appropriately to support their resilience efforts.
Equity Concerns Underpinning Policy Analysis And Decision Making For Coastal Resilience, Wie Yusuf
Equity Concerns Underpinning Policy Analysis And Decision Making For Coastal Resilience, Wie Yusuf
School of Public Service Faculty Publications
Summary: Equity is increasingly becoming a consideration in resilience-focused policy. There is heightened interest in measuring how resilience policies, projects, and programs may impact equity. Equity may be advanced by a more inclusive policy process, well-developed communication channels, regular reference to the resilience research body of knowledge, and consultation with subject matter experts. There is need for increased clarity in the conceptual and operational definitions of equity, and consideration of the impact of resilience investments on a range of social and economic disparities.
Metrics And Mapping Of Equity And Coastal Resilience, Wie Yusuf
Metrics And Mapping Of Equity And Coastal Resilience, Wie Yusuf
School of Public Service Faculty Publications
Summary: Grant applications are increasingly scored using equity, justice, or vulnerability indices that rely on national or aggregate data. However, data at the national level may not translate to the needs of a community. There is a need for metrics that can be applied locally and validly capture the local conditions. Scale is a fundamental consideration as national metrics do not translate to the state level as actionable or transferable, nor do state-level metrics apply consistently to local levels. Of primary concern are logical consistency (e.g., the blurring of metrics when an underserved population may be diluted in representation by …
The Intersecting And Additive Nature Of Vulnerability: Dehumanizing Or Protecting?, Megan Berry-Cohen
The Intersecting And Additive Nature Of Vulnerability: Dehumanizing Or Protecting?, Megan Berry-Cohen
Department of Psychology: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Recent research has examined how extra-legal factors such as emotions and stereotypes impact legal judgment decisions regarding traditionally vulnerable populations. Less work has explored not only what makes a group vulnerable, but how people perceive, interpret, and apply that vulnerability. The current research therefore integrates psychological theory and legal models to understand vulnerability and its implications. Three studies examined the roles of various factors, including dehumanization and empathy, in understanding how people respond to vulnerable individuals in general and then to women who have survived sexual violence.
In Experiment 1, I manipulated sex (female vs. male), age (older: 60 years …

Structures Of Loyalty: A Comparative Study Of Jewish And Palestinian Evangelicals' Acquiescence To Fundamentalist And Authoritarian Values, Anders P. Lundberg, Kristian Steiner
International Dialogue
This is a qualitative comparative study of two evangelical movements in Israel and in the West Bank: the Israeli Messianic (IM) movement and the Palestinian Evangelical (PE) movement. Through interviews on how informants understand the Middle Eastern conflict, our aim is (1) to compare the prevalence of fundamentalist/authoritarian (F/A) values in the IM and PE movements and (2) to understand how a particular socio-political context —Israel and the West Bank—might affect the acquiescence to a F/A mindset amongst the two movements. To accomplish this, we created a F/A construct that measures five values: literalism, social withdrawal, authoritarian aggression, authoritarian submission, …

Home Fare Advantage: An Examination Of The Role Of Food And Beverages In Mercedes-Benz Stadium’S Event Experience, Mark A. Slavich, Gregg Rich, Dylan Williams
Journal of Applied Sport Management
Through the lens of Expectation Disconfirmation Theory and with consideration of other event experience factors, our study examines how strategic concessions changes implemented by the Arthur M. Blank (AMB) Group with the building of Mercedes-Benz Stadium affect the fan experience at its professional sport events. These changes differ significantly from operational practices at most sport venues, with emphasis on eliminating bottlenecks to increase throughput and allowing for reduced costs without negatively affecting quality. Data were collected through an online survey of Atlanta United match attendees and an online observation. Results from this study suggest that management prioritization of concession services …
Antecedents And Consequences Of Conspicuous Sport Consumption, Yukyoum Kim, Sun Hwan Hwang, Marshall Magnusen
Antecedents And Consequences Of Conspicuous Sport Consumption, Yukyoum Kim, Sun Hwan Hwang, Marshall Magnusen
Journal of Applied Sport Management
Conspicuous consumption is when consumers acquire luxury goods and services to help publicly demonstrate their desired economic and social status. Even though conspicuous consumption can help individuals experience social distinction and a heightened sense of self-esteem, much still needs to be known about this occurrence in the context of sport. Accordingly, the focus of this study was to examine antecedents (i.e., Expertise and Self-esteem) and outcomes (i.e., Satisfaction and Subjective Well-being) of conspicuous consumption of upscale sport goods. An empirical study was conducted with cyclists (n = 393). The research model was analyzed using simultaneous equations analysis. Expertise was shown …

Prevention Of Child Sexual Abuse In South Africa: Assessing The Role Of Parents, Community Leaders, Educators, And Social Workers, Nosisa Mabetshe, Emeka E. Obioha, Ishmael Mugari, Elphina N. Cishe
Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence
Child sexual abuse is a global problem and is prevalent in South Africa. Child sexual abuse significantly harms the victims. This study looked at child sexual abuse prevention, focusing on the community, school system, and social workers. A mixed methods research method was used. Data were collected from 115 questionnaire respondents, of which 15 in-depth interview participants were selected. The sample was selected using purposive sampling and stratified random sampling techniques. Low reporting of incidents is hindering the effective response to child sexual abuse. The study revealed the significant role parents and community members could play in preventing child sexual …

Public Witnessing As Catalyst For Community Repair: Partnerships And Processing In The Archives., Lori Schwartz
Criss Library Faculty Proceedings & Presentations
UNO’s status as a Metropolitan University informs much of its character. UNO’s serious focus on community engagement reflects this and aligns well with the work of my department, Archives and Special Collections (ASC) in UNO Libraries.
Until a decade ago, our collections were not representative of our communities. When my boss came on board in 2014, she was the first archivist to serve as department head. I came the following year. She brought a fresh perspective with a desire to collect more broadly than the collections from white, cis, male, wealthy donors that were typical. Obviously, we need some of …
Travel Behavior Change And Economic Transition In Gentrified Neighborhoods, Maryam Izadi
Travel Behavior Change And Economic Transition In Gentrified Neighborhoods, Maryam Izadi
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Post-industrial cities in the US have experienced social and economic transitions, mostly in declining downtown neighborhoods. This process, known as gentrification, typically involves revitalization that reverses the decline and disinvestment in inner-city neighborhoods. The industrial shift increased the demand for housing near downtown. The employment of college-educated and high-skill workers has been centralized, while low-skilled jobs continue to decline downtown. While the impacts of gentrification on housing and residential displacement is frequently investigated, little attention has been given to its impact on travel behavior change and economic transition, which is the focus of this research. Change in travel behavior is …
Emergency Management For Equitable Coastal Resilience, Wie Yusuf
Emergency Management For Equitable Coastal Resilience, Wie Yusuf
School of Public Service Faculty Publications
Summary: The discipline and practice of emergency management provide opportunities to promote equity in resilience. This may be accomplished by (1) expanding and deepening emergency management’s responsibilities to more explicitly incorporate mid-to-long-term recovery, and (2) advancing workforce diversity. Further, the prioritization of planning investments may promote more equitable recovery pathways for communities. Tracking of resilience investments and associated benefits across communities may provide opportunities to assess the equity of investments. Advancing resilience literacy and risk assessment among the citizenry may promote equity in resilience.

Despite the overall national decline in Kaposi sarcoma (KS) incidence in the United States among persons living with HIV, previous studies suggest there might be specific subgroups of the US population that are associated with higher KS incidence rates than others. Using the 2001-2018 National Program of Cancer Registries and Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program database, we assessed KS incidence trends among young men aged 20-34 years by race and ethnicity and geographic region. Statistical significance is 2-sided. The KS incidence rate increased nationally by 1.5% per year in non-Hispanic Black men, whereas the rate decreased statistically significantly by …

Engineering Technologies, Safety, and Construction Faculty Scholarship
The construction sector is India's second-largest industry, contributing to the country's economy and providing many job opportunities. However, construction has been described as a hazardous industry with a high rate of injuries, accidents, and fatalities compared to other sectors worldwide. The "psychological contract of safety (PCS)" is one of the safety climate (SC) variables that influence worker safety behavior (WSB) actions on construction sites to improve safety. This research investigates the influence of SC factors on PCS and PCS on WSB in construction site safety. A quantitative research method has been adopted in this study, and the data is collected …

Limited Cognitive Ability May Reduce Snap Participation Among Older Adults, Colleen Heflin, Dongmei Zuo, Gabriella Alphonso
Population Health Research Brief Series
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the largest food and nutrition assistance program in the U.S. For older adults currently on SNAP, meeting administrative requirements to remain on SNAP is difficult due to short recertification time frames, a lack of social support, and cognitive impairment. This brief summarizes results of a recent study examining the impact of cognitive decline on SNAP participation among adults aged 60 yrs. and older. Findings demonstrate that cognitive decline and living alone are associated with reduced SNAP participation, with older females being the most affected.
