Scientific communities are increasingly publishing data to evaluate, accredit, and build on published research. However, guidelines for curating data for publication are sparse for model-related research, limiting the usability of archived simulation data. In particular, there are no established guidelines for archiving data related to terrestrial models that simulate land processes and their coupled interactions with climate. Terrestrial modelers have a unique set of challenges when publishing data due to the diversity of scientific domains, research questions, and the types and scales of simulations. Researchers in the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) projects use a variety of multiscale models to …

United States President Joe Biden has been in government since 1973. Despite the changing nature of international relations since then, his approach to intelligence has remained consistent and stable, including his enthusiasm for national intelligence and uneasiness about militarizing it. This article assesses United States President Joe Biden's approach to intelligence. It evaluates his evolving relationship with the Central Intelligence Agency and the rest of the intelligence community from the early 1970s, when he was elected to Congress, to the early 2020s, when he became the forty-sixth president of the United States. It concludes that, against the ever-changing context of …

Post-Harvest Technology Information Awareness Of Agro-Based Women Entrepreneurs In Abia State, Nigeria, Amarachi Confidence Ukpabi Ph.D , Library And Information Science, Ukpabi Joseph Ukpabi Phd, Food Science And Technology
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The quantities of agricultural commodities wasted during the post-harvest handling, storage, processing, packaging, distribution and marketing are considered unacceptably high in Abia State, Nigeria. Though the state has a sizeable number of agro-based women entrepreneurs, and a national agricultural research institute that is noteworthy in post-harvest technology (PHT) research and documentation yet, there are substantial decrease in food quality, reduced financial value and heavy losses of agricultural produce after bumper harvests in an era when agricultural research scientists have conceived improved post-harvest technologies that ought to address these problems. This study was conducted therefore, to identify the extent of awareness …

Learning From The Standpoints Of Minoritized Students: An Exploration Of Multicultural And Social Justice Counseling Training, Julie A. Cohen, Anusha Kassan, Kaori Wada
The Qualitative Report
The results of a feminist research endeavour that explored multicultural (MC) counselling and social justice (SJ) training experiences from the standpoint of eight culturally non-dominant doctoral students are presented. Participants represented students within the five counselling psychology programs accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association. Specifically, the research aimed to address the following research question: How do counselling psychology doctoral students who self-identify with non-dominant cultural identities perceive their experiences of MC and SJ training? This research adopted a feminist standpoint theory epistemology to guide an interpretative phenomenological analysis to reflect the culturally rich, complex, and situated experiences of participants, while …

Adultery and Fidelity in the Lais of Marie de France
Using both literary and historical analysis, I will examine contrasting depictions of adultery and fidelity within the lais written by 12th-century poet Marie de France. A lai is a type of narrative poem, ranging in length from 118 to 1184 lines. Many of Marie de France’s lais follow the literary trope known as courtly love; however, the reader is encouraged to sympathize with different characters depending on the lai. In some lais, the reader …

Community Libraries In The Capital Of Pakistan: Current Status, Issues, And Perspectives, Muhammad Asim, Dr. Amjid Khan, Sheikh Muhammad Arshad
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The aim of this study was to explore the status, collection, and challenges of community libraries in the capital of Pakistan. A purposive sampling technique was used for data collection from 12librarians/library in-charges working in these community libraries. This study found that the collection of reading materials in the community libraries was between 4000 to 7000 and offered Web-OPAC, interlibrary loan, books borrow services. These libraries have proper websites, classified books, adequate sitting arrangements, and a heating and cooling system to support the community. Though, these libraries were facing some major challenges such as lack of sufficient funds, lack of …

Department of Marketing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a nutrition assistance program in the United States (U.S.). Participants in the program redeem their prescribed food benefits in WIC-authorized grocery stores. Online ordering is an innovative method being pilot-tested in some stores to facilitate WIC participants’ food benefit redemption, which has become especially important in the COVID-19 pandemic. The present research aimed to examine the online ordering (OO) behaviors among 726 WIC households who adopted WIC OO in a grocery chain, XYZ (anonymous) store, in Oklahoma (OK). These households represented approximately 5% of WIC households who redeemed …
Lasting Changes On Etextbook Acquisitions For Textbook Affordability Due To Covid-19, Justin White
Lasting Changes On Etextbook Acquisitions For Textbook Affordability Due To Covid-19, Justin White
University Library Publications and Presentations
When the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley University Library started purchasing etextbooks for required courses in 2018, we were one of the few in the UT System who had an explicit program. Now, it’s becoming a more common practice for libraries to put funds usually reserved for course reserves or other faculty requests into ebooks. As COVID began to shut down our physical operations we began to receive a large influx of etextbook requests from faculty. Luckily, the library had a student savings tracking process in place for required etextbook purchases, and a fund designated for these purchases. The …

African-American Lay Pastoral Care Facilitators’ Perspectives On Dementia Caregiver Education And Training, Nik M. Lampe, Nidhi Desai, Tomeka Norton-Brown, Alexandra C. H. Nowakowski, Robert L. Glueckauf
The Qualitative Report
The African-American Alzheimer’s Caregiver Training and Support Project 2 (ACTS 2) is a faith-integrated, skills-training and support program for distressed African American family caregivers of persons living with dementia across Florida. Caregivers participate in a 12-week, telephone-based, skills-building and support program led by faith community workers (i.e., lay pastoral care facilitators) who provide volunteer services to their denominations. In this case study, we examined facilitators’ perspectives and recommendations for supplementary audiovisual and written training materials to optimize group process and goal-setting skills. Utilizing a qualitative approach, we explored facilitators’ needs, experiences in using current training materials, and recommendations for supplementary …
A Father’S Death: The Therapeutic Power Of Autoethnography, Dwayne Custer
A Father’S Death: The Therapeutic Power Of Autoethnography, Dwayne Custer
The Qualitative Report
Autoethnography is a transformative qualitative research method that has the power to heal self and society after traumatic events (personal and collective). It is a bridge between the subjective inner world of spirit and memory with the outer world of objectivity and culture. Autoethnography is a powerful tool for manifesting change in the world. In this paper, I will address autoethnography as a transformative methodology in relationship to my father’s death when I was a young child, demonstrate the therapeutic aspects of personal narrative, and quickly address some of the ethical challenges with the process.
Choosing To Thrive: An Autoethnographic Journey Of Cancer, Companionship, And Carrots, Bruce Lilyea
Choosing To Thrive: An Autoethnographic Journey Of Cancer, Companionship, And Carrots, Bruce Lilyea
The Qualitative Report
In this autoethnography, I explore the companionship experience of someone supporting a cancer patient who is endeavoring to thrive in the face of this disease. A wide range of studies has been conducted on the emotional and social issues relating to cancer and specifically to breast cancer. Appropriately, most of the research relating to the personal narrative focuses on the stories of the person who has been diagnosed with cancer, and limited research has highlighted the perspective and experiences of their companions. My primary goals for this autoethnographic research are to: (1) Begin to answer the question: What role do …
Life Story Interviewing As A Method To Co-Construct Narratives About Resilience, Laura D. Russell
Life Story Interviewing As A Method To Co-Construct Narratives About Resilience, Laura D. Russell
The Qualitative Report
Human life presents many unplanned twists and turns. No one escapes this world without facing adversity of some kind. Therefore, the value in teaching and researching resilience cannot be overstated. This research explores how life story interviewing with interactive methods (also referred to as “elicitation techniques”) provides an invaluable approach to investigating and understanding resilience. Specifically, a stepwise framework is offered for researching resilience as a co-constructed, relational phenomenon. Upon applying this framework through teaching an undergraduate senior seminar, I offer thematic observations of my students’ interviewing experiences to show how life storytelling promotes (a) embodied understandings of resilience, (b) …
Exploitation And Perpetuation Of The Israeli Occupation By The Arab States: A Historical Political Economy Perspective, Seif Hendy
Theses and Dissertations
Within the larger Arab-Israeli conflicts, numerous states within the Arab world have become involved to varying degrees. Despite overwhelming vocal support for the Palestinian cause, the conflict has persisted with many of its varying aspects becoming amplified, as opposed to approaching resolution. Through the context of contemporary normalisation, this analysis investigates the role of these Arab states historically in perpetuating this state of conflict. Utilising a perspective of historical political economy, the investigation draws on two case studies that illuminate this thesis. The first case study is that of the division and occupation of Palestine following the collapse of the …
Nasiriddin Tusi’S Work “Tajrid Alkalam” And Commentaries On It, Jahongir Tohirov
Nasiriddin Tusi’S Work “Tajrid Alkalam” And Commentaries On It, Jahongir Tohirov
The Light of Islam
Tajrid al-kalam differs from other theological works with its small form. It attracted the attention of many commentators in a short period after Nasiruddin Tusi’s death. The 60-page commentary of Ali Kushchi on the Tajrid, written almost 200 years later (1420), is over 400 pages. The article provides information about manuscripts and published versions of Tajrid and its Sharhs, Hashiyas, Ta’liqats, and their features. We can witness the value of some of the Sharhs and Hashiyas in the manuscript when we refer to it. Information about these versions shows that, to date, four copies of Tajrid have reached us. Two …
Tactical Mistakes: Women's Role In Terrorism, Laura Daniel
Tactical Mistakes: Women's Role In Terrorism, Laura Daniel
Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy
Since the 1970s, the word "terrorism" has become a well-known term. Almost two decades after 9/11, it has become a part of everyday vocabulary and, at times, dominates the news cycle. However, the faces we see associated with terrorism are mainly men. When talking of a training camp or a video claiming responsibility for terrorist attacks, women are not a part of the majority. However, women do play a significant role in terrorism. This article evaluates the history of women in terrorism and their positions in terror organizations, as well as the tactical mistake of overlooking women's role in global …
Great Disaster: The Impact Of Covid-19 On Yemen, Joshua Odey
Great Disaster: The Impact Of Covid-19 On Yemen, Joshua Odey
Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy
The COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected countries around the world. Travel became restricted as countries around the world tried to control the pandemic. The global economy was also negatively affected. Nonetheless, many countries around the world took measures to control the economy and have successfully reduced the number of cases and the negative impact of COVID-19. This is not so with other countries such as Yemen, who is currently facing a humanitarian crisis that has greatly weakened their ability to respond to the pandemic.
The purpose of this research paper is to show how COVID-19 has negatively affected Yemen. For more …
Illegal Abortion: Truth Vs. Fiction, Andrew T. Looker Jr.
Illegal Abortion: Truth Vs. Fiction, Andrew T. Looker Jr.
Liberty University Journal of Statesmanship & Public Policy
Numerous factual errors are made regarding the issue of abortion. These false claims are made in an attempt to scuttle efforts to restrict abortion. Some of the most frequent claims pertain to the effectiveness of pro-life laws themselves. One such claim is that thousands of women died from unsolicited abortions when the procedure was illegal, and that maternal deaths declined rapidly afterwards due to the legal availability of abortion. Another claim is that laws that either restrict or outlaw abortion are ineffective in reducing abortion rates. A comprehensive analysis of the best available data proves these assertions to be undeniably …

Trend Analysis Of Rural Underemployment: An Example From North Dakota, Curtis W. Stofferahn, Cordell A. Fontaine, Lonny A. Borgerson
Great Plains Sociologist
The unemployment rate continues to be the major criterion used in selecting counties for special economic assistance. But the official unemployment rate is not a valid measure of either the quality or quantity of the rural labor force. The continued use of the official unemployment measure leaves rural areas at a disadvantage compared to urban areas in the distribution of economic development assistance. Home, et al. (1974) found that selecting counties on the basis of unemployment omitted many countieswith both the greatest labor potential and economic need for expanded industrialization. They found that under-employment was a much better indicator of …

Recent Changes In Hutterite Colony Expansion, William L. Smith
Great Plains Sociologist
Two thirds of present day Hutterians reside in the following four Canadian provinces: Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British,Columbia.- The remaining one third have settled m five northern states of the U.SA.: South Dakota, Montana, North Dakota, Washington, and Minnesota. The number of Hutterites vary according to the sources quoted but the best current estimates indicate that there are approximately between 33,309 (Anderson, 1989) and 32,850 (Raber, 1987:55) as compared to 21,521 in 1974 (Hosteller, 1974) and 16,931 listed in a 1969 census of Hutterite members (Friedmann, 1970:101) and 16,500 in 1965 (Hostetler and Huntington, 1980:1).
Assessing The Myth: A Study Of Eligible Athletes' Grade Point Averages, Dave Vilhauer, Jerome Rosonke
Assessing The Myth: A Study Of Eligible Athletes' Grade Point Averages, Dave Vilhauer, Jerome Rosonke
Great Plains Sociologist
There is a common notion that athletes are not highly intelligent. For instance, the label "dumb jock" is often applied to an athletic competitor, and the phrase "big like-tractor, dumb like tractor" has been used to describe linemen in football. There is little question about society's view of athletes, however what is debatable is just how valid these stereotypes are. This research project is a study of athletes during a one-year period at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. (hereafter referred to as NSU). The institution of higher learning is located in the upper midwest in an agricultural environment, with …
