Previous research has suggested a positive relationship between video game play and negative outcomes, with the APA going so far as to publish a press release on the negative effects of violent media (APA, 2005, 2015a, 2015b; Anderson et al., 2010; Kepes et al., 2017). However, critics argue that these results are marred by publication bias and are overstated (Ferguson, 2007; Ferguson et al., 2020; Hilgard et al., 2017). Introduction

Research demonstrates that both proximal personal characteristics (e.g., outness, emotion dysregulation) and distal stressors (e.g., heterosexism) may be associated with harmful alcohol use among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals. No study has systematically examined the factors linking LGB identity outness to harmful alcohol use. The current cross-sectional study bridges this gap by testing a sequential mediation model wherein heterosexist experiences (HE) and emotion dysregulation (ER) were hypothesized to mediate the relationship between outness and alcohol use.

The Mental Health Of Latinx Adults In The United States During The Coronavirus Pandemic: A Snapshot Of Anxiety, Depression, And Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms, Bianca T. Villalobos, Juventino Hernandez Rodriguez

The current study documented levels of anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress, and COVID-19 fears and impacts among Latinxs in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants of this cross-sectional study were 388 Latinx adults who completed an online survey between June and November 2020. Almost half of participants showed clinical levels of anxiety and depression and more than a quarter of participants showed clinical levels of posttraumatic stress. Latinxs reported on average 22 types of negative pandemic life impacts. Group differences based on gender, educational attainment, income, vulnerability to COVID-19, and essential worker status were found for mental health symptoms. Severity …

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, auto loans outstanding in the United States had soared to record highs. The boom in lending spanned new and used cars and traditional and subprime loans. With loan delinquencies also hitting new highs almost every quarter, predictions that the auto lending market could burst soon abounded. When the economy came to a grinding halt and unemployment skyrocketed in the wake of the pandemic, auto lenders knew they were facing a crisis. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the impact a Teacher Librarian has on students’ self-selection strategies and the broader impact on a culture of reading in a school building. Data was collected from 263 students in middle school (grades 5-8) resulting in 1322 reponses over eight weeks. Research Question 1 asked, What appeal strategies do students use when selecting an independent reading book? “You liked the author or it is in a series” was the number one book selection approach used with 21.6% of the responses indicating this approach when selecting a book. Based upon 13 months of multi-sited ethnographic research, conducted with conservation actors across six states, the researcher investigates and documents how conservation professionals—operating in contexts adjacent to zoological institutions—experience and respond to the socio-environmental implications associated with the cascading effects of global environmental change. This project contributes to anthropologies of the state, (diasporic return) migration, belonging, home, and conflict, including genocide and war. It intervenes in the anthropology of home by focusing on both the social and physical aspects of home, its pain, joys, and ironies, and it speaks to the anthropology of genocide by showing how a population a century removed from a genocide uses it to interpret their experience. This dissertation draws on fieldwork with Black LGBTQ identifying individuals and communities in Birmingham, Alabama conducted from 2015-2019 as part of a project that reimagines theories of care. Informed by scholars of Black and feminist studies, I conceive of forms of care as negotiations of survival and tactics of thriving that are worked out in everyday practices and discourses among LGBTQ African Americans. I show how histories of racial inequality and centuries of resistance, surviving, and thriving among communities of African descent intersect with LGBTQ politics, space, and identity to create strategies and places of individual and community care. This dissertation addresses social differentiation among rural residents of Chunhuayum, an ancient Maya village in northwest Yucatan, from the Late Preclassic to the Late Early Classic (300 B.C. – A.D. 600/630). The three axes of social differentiation investigated are household wealth, occupation, and social connectivity to external networks. Using a practice theory approach, my research seeks to identify how material and social practices shaped and expressed social differentiation among Chunhuayum households, as well as how these may have shaped the particular history of Chunhuayum within its regional context. Social power research has been limited by theoretical and methodological traditions that prioritize static comparisons of high and low-power states. This is a crucial limitation given power’s inherently dynamic nature. Accordingly, Anicich and Hirsh (2017a) recently developed a theoretical framework related to the consequences of vertical code-switching – i.e., the act of alternating between behavioral patterns directed toward higher-power and lower-power interaction partners – known as the approach-inhibition-avoidance (AIA) theory of power. สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ที่จะศึกษาถึงปัญหาและอุปสรรคต่อการเก็บกู้ทุ่นระเบิดสังหารบุคคลของประเทศไทยภายใต้พันธกรณีของอนุสัญญาออตตาวา โดยเฉพาะการปฏิบัติตามพันธกรณีข้อ 5 ว่าด้วยการทำลายทุ่นระเบิดสังหารบุคคลในพื้นที่ทุ่นระเบิดภายใต้เขตอำนาจหรือการควบคุมของรัฐภาคีภายในกรอบระยะเวลา 10 ปี หลังจากอนุสัญญาดังกล่าวมีผลบังคับใช้ต่อรัฐภาคี โดยจะใช้กรอบทฤษฎีประกอบสร้างนิยม (Constructivism) ในการศึกษาและวิเคราะห์ถึงปัญหาและอุปสรรคต่อการเก็บกู้ทุ่นระเบิดเพื่อมนุษยธรรมของประเทศไทยที่ยังไม่สามารถปฏิบัติได้ตามพันธกรณีในอนุสัญญาออตตาวา ซึ่งจากการศึกษา พบว่า อนุสัญญาที่เผยแพร่บรรทัดฐานที่เน้นมนุษย์ (Human-centric) ขัดต่อบรรทัดฐานที่เน้นรัฐ (State-centric) ที่เคยยึดถือกันมาอย่างยาวนาน ส่งผลให้ระบบการปกครองในแต่ละรัฐบาลของประเทศไทยให้ความสำคัญในเรื่องการเก็บกู้ทุ่นระเบิดไม่เท่ากัน และเกิดความไม่ต่อเนื่องในการปฏิบัติตามบรรทัดฐาน รวมทั้งการไม่มี Norm entrepreneur ภายในประเทศเข้ามาผลักดันประเด็นปัญหานี้ได้อย่างเต็มที่ จึงทำให้การรับเอาบรรทัดฐานเข้ามากลายเป็นเรื่องของการคล้อยตามทางสังคม (Social conformity) ซึ่งอยู่ในระดับรัฐที่มีการยอมรับแบบผิวเผิน และต้องการแสดงให้ประชาคมระหว่างประเทศเห็นว่าตนเองให้ความสำคัญและสามารถปฏิบัติตามบรรทัดฐานนี้ได้ เพื่อผลประโยชน์ทางวัตถุเป็นหลัก นอกจากนี้ยังเกิดความขัดกันของแนวทาง (Contestation) ในการช่วยเหลือของประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา ในกระบวนการคิดกับวิธีการกวาดล้างทุ่นระเบิดที่ไม่ตรงกับบริบทของประเทศไทย เนื่องจากประเทศไทยมีภูมิประเทศที่แตกต่างจากประเทศฝั่งตะวันตก เช่น พื้นที่สูงชัน ป่ารกทึบ ห่างไกล และยากต่อการเข้าถึง ทั้งนี้ จึงทำให้การปฏิบัติการเก็บกู้ทุ่นระเบิดของประเทศไทยมีประสิทธิภาพน้อย และไม่สามารถปฏิบัติภารกิจให้เสร็จสิ้นได้ภายในกรอบระยะเวลา 10 ปี

สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ศึกษานโยบายต่างประเทศของจีนที่มีต่ออัฟกานิสถาน หลังเหตุการณ์ 9/11 โดยจะศึกษานโยบายของจีนที่เดิมมักจะได้ข้อสรุปว่า เป็นไปเพื่อการแข่งขันอิทธิพลของสหรัฐฯ และมหาอำนาจอื่น ๆ ในอัฟกานิสถานและภูมิภาคนั้น การศึกษาของสารนิพนธ์นี้จะพิจารณาถึงปัจจัยต่าง ๆ ที่เป็นเหตุผลประกอบในการตัดสินใจดำเนินนโยบายต่างประเทศของจีน ซึ่งมีทั้งจากปัจจัยภายนอกที่เกิดจากการเข้ามาของสหรัฐฯ จนอาจเป็นการแข่งขันทางอำนาจในระบบระหว่างประเทศ และจากปัจจัยภายในด้านเสถียรภาพและความมั่นคงของจีนเองที่ต้องการเสริมสร้างความเข้มแข็งของบูรณภาพแห่งดินแดนในเขตปกครองตนเองซินเจียงอุยกูร์ ผลการศึกษาพบว่าการดำเนินนโยบายต่างประเทศของจีนต่ออัฟกานิสถานในช่วงหลังเหตุการณ์ 9/11 นั้น ปัจจัยภายในเป็นปัจจัยที่สำคัญที่สุด โดยเฉพาะบทบาทของจีนในอัฟกานิสถาน เป็นไปเพื่อการจัดการปัญหาด้านความมั่นคงภายใน การเสริมสร้างเสถียรภาพ และเพื่อรักษาฐานอำนาจความชอบธรรมของพรรคคอมมิวนิสต์จีน จากการประสบปัญหาการก่อเหตุรุนแรงเพื่อต่อต้านรัฐบาลจีนในพื้นที่เขตปกครองตนเองซินเจียงอุยกูร์ อีกทั้งยังเป็นการเสริมสร้างความชอบธรรมของพรรคคอมมิวนิสต์จีนในการปกครองประเทศ ด้านสภาวะดุลแห่งอำนาจ (Balance of Power) ที่เกิดขึ้นในภูมิภาคจนส่งผลให้มีลักษณะของการแข่งขันอิทธิพลของประเทศมหาอำนาจนั้น เป็นเพียงแต่ผลพลอยได้ที่ตามมาจากการดำเนินนโยบายต่างประเทศของจีนเพื่อปกป้องเสถียรภาพด้านความมั่นคงภายในของจีนเอง ไม่ใช่ปัจจัยสำคัญในการกำหนดนโยบายต่างประเทศของจีนที่มีต่ออัฟกานิสถาน

สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษามุมมองของสหรัฐอเมริกาที่มีต่ออิทธิพลของสถาบันขงจื่อในสังคมอเมริกัน โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสร้างความเข้าใจว่าเพราะเหตุใดอิทธิพลของสถาบันขงจื่อ ถึงถูกภาคการเมืองอเมริกันมองเป็นภัยคุกคามต่อความมั่นคงของสหรัฐอเมริกา จากบริบทการแข่งขันทางอำนาจระหว่างสหรัฐอเมริกาและจีนในเวทีเศรษฐกิจการเมืองระหว่างประเทศ เมื่อจีนก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นมหาอำนาจใหม่ ซึ่งเป็นการท้าทายมหาอำนาจเดิมอย่างสหรัฐฯ ส่งผลให้การดำเนินกิจกรรมของสถาบันขงจื่อที่อยู่ภายใต้การกำกับของรัฐบาลคอมมิวนิสต์จีนถูกจับตามองอย่างใกล้ชิดจากรัฐบาลอเมริกัน จนนำไปสู่การจำกัดอิทธิพลของสถาบันขงจื่อในสังคมอเมริกัน ดังนั้นผู้เขียนจะนำแนวคิดการพองตัวอย่างผิดปกติของภัยคุกคาม หรือ Threat Inflation มาอธิบายปรากฎการณ์ดังกล่าว ซึ่งจากการศึกษาพบว่าสถาบันขงจื่อที่ดำเนินกิจกรรมอยู่ทั่วสหรัฐฯ มีโครงสร้างการบริหารงานที่ถูกผูกติดกับรัฐบาลคอมมิวนิสต์จีนจนแยกไม่ออก กอปรกับสถาบันขงจื่อมีอิทธิพลเหนือกว่าสถาบันการศึกษาอเมริกัน ซึ่งอาจจะส่งผลกระทบต่อเสรีภาพทางวิชาการในระบบการศึกษาของสหรัฐฯ ส่งผลให้ผู้นำสังคมอเมริกันเริ่มออกมาต่อต้านการมีอยู่ของสถาบันขงจื่อ โดยเฉพาะภาคการเมืองอเมริกันที่พยายามสร้างภาพความน่ากลัวของสถาบันขงจื่อให้ขยายตัวใหญ่ขึ้น จนนำไปสู่การสร้างมุมมองให้กับสังคมอเมริกันว่าสถาบันขงจื่ออาจจะเป็นภัยคุกคามต่อความมั่นคงของสหรัฐอเมริกา เพื่อให้รัฐได้รับความชอบธรรมในการดำเนินการจำกัดอิทธิพลของสถาบันขงจื่อในสังคมอเมริกัน

สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาบทบาทของจีนที่มีผลต่อความสำเร็จของสตาร์ทอัพจีนระดับยูนิคอร์น (Startup Unicorn) :โดยจากการพิจารณาผ่านคำอธิบายในทฤษฎีรัฐพัฒนา (Developmental state) และแนวคิดด้านการรักษาความมั่นคงของประเทศ ปัจจัยที่สำคัญเกิดจากการที่รัฐบาลจีนต้องการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจของประเทศ จึงสนับสนุนด้านพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศของจีนโดยพัฒนาโครงสร้างพื้นฐาน จัดตั้งหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง และส่งเสริมด้านการพัฒนาธุรกิจจนทำให้เกิดสภาพแวดล้อมที่เอื้อต่อการขยายตัวของธุรกิจสตาร์ทอัพในจีน นอกจากนี้ ปัจจัยที่สำคัญอีกประการหนึ่งเกิดจากการใช้นโยบาย The Great Firewall of China ที่มีวัตถุประสงค์หลักเพื่อการรักษาอำนาจอธิปไตยทางอินเตอร์เน็ต (Internet sovereignty) แต่กลับส่งผลทางอ้อมในการกีดกันบริษัทจากต่างชาติที่เป็นคู่แข่งของบริษัทสตาร์ทอัพในจีน ทำให้บริษัทสตาร์ทอัพของจีนสามารถเติบโตขึ้นเป็นระดับยูนิคอร์น

สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษา ความท้าทายของประเทศไทยในการบังคับใช้กติการะหว่างประเทศว่าด้วยสิทธิพลเมือง และสิทธิทางการเมือง ข้อที่21 (ICCPR) ต่อเหตุการณ์ชุมนุม ในสมัยรัฐบาลพลเอก ประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา พ.ศ.2562-2564 โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาถึงการบังคับใช้กฎหมายที่เกินกว่าความจำเป็นจากเหตุการณ์การชุมนุมในห้วงเวลานี้ และมุ่งเน้นถึงความสำคัญของหลักสิทธิมนุษยชน และเสรีภาพต่อการแสดงออกทางการเมืองของประชาชน เพื่อให้เข้าใจถึงปัญหาและอุปสรรค อันเป็นความท้าทายของประเทศไทยในการปรับใช้กติการะหว่างประเทศ ว่าเพราะเหตุใดถึงไม่สามารถบังคับใช้กับประเทศไทยได้โดยสมบูรณ์ ต่อการเกิดขึ้นของสถานการณ์ความรุนแรงของผู้บังคับใช้กฎหมายที่ลิดรอนเสรีภาพ รวมถึงยังสร้างความเสียหายต่อทรัพย์สิน และชีวิตของประชาชนอย่างประจักษ์ นับเป็นการละเมิดสิทธิพลเมืองภายใต้กติการะหว่างประเทศ ดังนั้นผู้เขียนจึงนำแนวคิด ระบอบระหว่างประเทศเชิงซ้อน (International regime complex) มาศึกษาถึงปรากฎการณ์ดังกล่าว ซึ่งจากการศึกษาพบว่า กติการะหว่างประเทศว่าด้วยสิทธิพลเมืองและสิทธิทางการเมือง มิได้มีความสอดคล้องกับผลประโยชน์แห่งชาติของประเทศไทย เเละการไม่มีอำนาจศูนย์กลางในการบังคับใช้กฎหมายต่อผู้ละเมิด ส่งผลให้ประเทศไทยยังคงละเมิดกติกาดังกล่าวได้ ซึ่งการไม่ยึดโยงกับเจตนารมณ์ด้านสิทธิมนุษยชนอันเป็นจุดมุ่งหมายหลักของความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศนี้ นับเป็นความท้าทายที่สำคัญของประเทศไทย

วิสัยทัศน์ Global Britain กำหนดการหันเข้าหาโลกของสหราชอาณาจักรภายหลังการลาออกจากสหภาพยุโรป แผนยุทธศาสตร์องค์รวมทำให้วิสัยทัศน์ Global Britain มีความเป็นรูปธรรมากขึ้น โดยกำหนดให้สหราชอาณาจักรมีบทบาทเชิงรุกที่สำคัญในโลก ซึ่งสหราชอาณาจักรเลือกหันเหจุดเน้นทางยุทธศาสตร์มาสู่อินโดแปซิฟิกเพราะอินโดแปซิฟิกมีผลประโยชน์ทางเศรษฐกิจและการเมืองมากมายต่อสหราชอาณาจักร ผ่านการประกอบสร้างความมั่นคงในอินโดแปซิฟิก สหราชอาณาจักรรับรู้ว่าจีนเป็นภัยคุกคามจากการขึ้นมามีอำนาจและความก้าวร้าวที่เพิ่มขึ้น รวมกับ ความแตกต่างระหว่างอุดมการณ์และการปฏิบัติของสหราชอาณาจักรและจีน ทำให้จีนถูกปฏิบัติเป็นภัยคุกคามจากรัฐบาลสหราชอาณาจักรผู้ประกอบสร้างความมั่นคง ซึ่งถูกส่งผ่านไปให้ผู้รับสารคือสาธารณชนสหราชอาณาจักรผ่านการรายงานของสื่อมวลชน ซึ่งสาธารณชนสหราชอาณาจักรยอมรับว่า จีนเป็นภัยคุกคาม ต่อ ความมั่นคงทางสาธาณะสุข ความมั่นคงทางไซเบอร์ เป็นภัยคุกคามต่ออุดมการณ์เสรีนิยมของสหราชอาณาจักร เมื่อประชาชนเชื่อว่าจีนเป็นภัยคุกคามต่อผลประโยชน์แห่งชาติ รัฐบาลสหราชอาณาจักรจึงมีความชอบธรรมในการเข้ามาสู่ภูมิภาคอินโดแปซิฟิกอย่างเร่งด่วน เพื่อเข้ามาปกป้องผลประโยชน์และตอบสนองต่อภัยคุกคาม การเข้ามาสู่อินโดแปซิฟิกยังได้รับการส่งเสริมจากพันธมิตรทั้ง ออสเตรเลียและสหรัฐฯ ซึ่งนำมาสู่ นโยบายต่างๆ ในการเข้ามามีบทบาทในภูมิภาค ทั้งระยะสั้น ได้แก่ การส่งกองเรือ Carrier Strike Group (CSG) และระยะยาว ได้แก่ กรอบการหันเหความสนใจมาสู่อินโดแปซิฟิก (Indo-Pacific Tilt framework)

บทความวิจัยนี้ศึกษาถึงแนวทางหรือกลยุทธ์ในการผลักดันนโยบายกับการพัฒนาสิทธิของกลุ่มบุคคลที่มีความหลากหลายทางเพศ (LGBTQI+) ในญี่ปุ่น โดยใช้กรอบการวิเคราะห์แนวคิดเรื่องแนวทางการผลักดันนโยบาย (policy entrepreneurship) เพื่อมุ่งตอบคำถามว่า ในช่วงปี 2015 – 2021 ญี่ปุ่นมีแนวทางในการผลักดันเรื่องการยอมรับกลุ่ม LGBTQI+ กับการพัฒนาสิทธิของกลุ่ม LGBTQI+ อย่างไร บทความวิจัยนี้เสนอว่าญี่ปุ่นมีแนวทางในการผลักดันการยอมรับกลุ่ม LGBTQI+ กับการพัฒนาสิทธิของกลุ่ม LGBTQI+ โดยแบ่งออกเป็นสองแนวทาง คือ 1) ผู้ผลักดันนโยบาย (policy entrepreneurs) ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วยหน่วยงานทั้งภาครัฐและภาคเอกชนของญี่ปุ่นต่างรณรงค์ รวมกลุ่มจัดกิจกรรมเพื่อผลักดันให้มีการยอมรับกลุ่ม LGBTQI+ โดยอาศัย “ช่องโอกาส” (windows of opportunity) เป็นเครื่องมือที่กระตุ้นให้เกิดการผลักดันการยอมรับกลุ่ม LGBTQI+ 2) การใช้แรงกดดันจากการที่องค์กรระหว่างประเทศ หรือนานาชาติต่างยอมรับกลุ่ม LGBTQI+ เป็นเหตุผลข้ออ้างผลักดันให้ญี่ปุ่นดำเนินการเพื่อเป็นที่ยอมรับตามบรรทัดฐานสากล ในเรื่องนโยบายการยอมรับกลุ่ม LGBTQI+ ในประเทศ โดยใช้กระบวนการทบทวนสถานการณ์สิทธิมนุษยชนของประเทศ (Universal Periodic Review หรือ UPR) เป็นเครื่องมือกดดันเพื่อให้ญี่ปุ่นมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงนโยบายด้านสิทธิต่อกลุ่ม LGBTQI+ มากขึ้นจนเป็นบรรทัดฐานใหม่ในสังคมญี่ปุ่น
