One Door Opening Is Another Person's Insult: Examining Benevolently Sexist Behaviors And Attitudes In American Males, Rachael Turner

This study explores Ambivalent Sexism Theory and takes a closer look at the correlation between the behaviors and attitudes that surround it. In this study 133 male participants completed surveys questioning their acceptance and engagement in certain benevolent behaviors, as well as measuring their level of being considered sexist and kind. Results indicate that men who endorsed benevolently sexist ideology more frequently engaged in benevolent behaviors with women as well as believed this behavior was appropriate. However, regression analysis show kindness had a higher predictability in determining whether the men would in engage in these behaviors and consider it appropriate.

Even though training exists, the effectiveness of prior training and education of currently employed public information officers is unknown. However, little research has focused on the impact of treatment information on client preference. This study investigated differences in treatment preference between potential clients that read credible treatment information and those that read non-credible treatment information. The coronavirus pandemic upturned Americans’ lives. Within the first few weeks, millions of Americans reported being laid off from their jobs. Other people were working reduced hours or were working remotely from home. Children’s daycares and schools closed, and parents were thrown into new roles as educators and full-time babysitters, while, in some instances, also continuing to work full-time jobs. The profound financial effects caused by even a few weeks of the coronavirus’ upheaval spurred Congress to pass the CARES Act, which purported to provide economic relief to individuals and businesses.

This qualitative content analysis study examines the representation of LGBTQ characters in 10 young adult literature published in 2019 in light of rising numbers of self-harm and suicide among youth who identify as LGBTQ. Novels were identified using the WorldCat Online Database and the search delimiters of year of publication, LGBTQ, young adult, and fiction yielded 30 novels. This thesis examines both biological and social explanations of alcohol use disorder (AUD) and major depression (MD) through a thorough review of current literature. Coastal wetlands such as mangrove forests and salt marshes provide a range of important benefits to people, broadly defined as ecosystem services. These include provisioning services such as fuelwood and food, regulating services such as carbon sequestration and wave attenuation, and various tangible and intangible cultural services. However, strong negative perceptions of coastal wetlands also exist, often driven by the perceived or actual ecosystem disservices that they also produce. In Chattanooga, TN, the construction of a fiber optic telecommunications network has led to a tech-based revitalization strategy, and the promotion of entrepreneurial and technical positions within the Downtown. This dissertation questions what revitalization, the “Chattanooga Way,” means to differently situated residents of Chattanooga, TN, and how those differences in interpretation are related to lived experiences of economic inequality. Mass incarceration and its effects are well documented and carceral privatization is hotly contested on moral and economic grounds. This dissertation examines the local effects of carceral privatization in the U.S. south in historical context. Tallulah is a small, rural predominately African American town in northeastern Louisiana that endures high rates of poverty, unemployment, and low educational attainment. This dissertation investigates how community rebuilding is occurring in a gravely damaged, post-conflict society. Specifically, it looks at how people in two villages in Tamil, Hindu, Jaffna, Sri Lanka, are using their ‘sense of place’ and ‘place-making practices’ or what I call here their ‘village-temple consciousness’ or village consciousness, to maintain and rebuild their communities after war to make them, once again, places in which they feel a comfortable sense of belonging. However, little evidence exists related to on-the-ground experiences of Sri Lankans who access these services, the quality and sustainability of services, and the effects services have on individual therapy management of mental and emotional distress. This dissertation explores the experiences of an indigenous community from the Northern Ecuadorian Amazon during the implementation of extractivism, development, and redistributive projects. Drawing on twenty months of ethnographic fieldwork in the community of Playas del Cuyabeno and in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, I question the common assumption that indigenous peoples radically reject extractivism and state-imposed modernizing agendas. In contrast, this study shows how indigenous peoples negotiate resource extraction in their territories and navigate the partial failures of postneoliberal redistribution and the contradictory agendas of economic development projects—specifically the aim of the postneoliberal Ecuadorian government’s project to redistribute rents …

© 2020, Eskisehir Osmangazi University. In this study, we examined monitoring accuracy during in class-exams for Emirati, American and Cypriot college students. In experiment 1, 120 students made local, confidence-ratings for each multiple-choice question in a psychology exam and also estimated their performance at the end of the exam. In experiment 2, to investigate the effect of practice in monitoring accuracy, 69 students made confidence judgments in two consecutive exams. In Experiment 3, to evaluate whether rating one's confidence aids exam performance, 172 students completed the exam either with or without providing confidence judgments. © 2019 Elsevier Inc. People with epilepsy (PWE) continually report dissatisfaction with the support they receive, particularly in regard to their psychological wellbeing. With its focus on optimal seizure control, epilepsy treatment is entrenched in the medical model of illness, despite growing evidence of the broader psychosocial impact of the condition. This study aimed to explore how PWE experience healthcare in the context of their lives. Semistructured interviews were conducted with thirty-nine adults with epilepsy from across the UK. งานวิจัยชิ้นนี้เป็นงานวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน (Mixed Methods Research) มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์ประเภทและลักษณะของทำเนียบภาษา ตลอดจนสังเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างทำเนียบภาษากับเนื้อหาต่างประเภทในการสื่อสารเพื่อสร้างแรงบันดาลใจของ สินธุเสน เขจรบุตร ผู้วิจัยใช้วิธีการวิเคราะห์ตัวบท และการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา โดยเก็บข้อมูลจากแหล่งข้อมูลเนื้อหาจากคลิปวีดิทัศน์ที่เผยแพร่ในเฟซบุ๊กแฟนเพจของสินธุเสน เขจรบุตร ภายใต้ชื่อว่า K.S. Khunkhao จำนวน 30 คลิป ก่อนนำมาตรวจสอบข้อมูลแบบสามเส้าเพื่อความถูกต้องและครบถ้วนของข้อมูล ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ประเภทและลักษณะของทำเนียบภาษาที่ สินธุเสน เขจรบุตร ใช้ในการสื่อสารเพื่อสร้างแรงบันดาลใจ ประกอบด้วยการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลและจำแนกประเภทการใช้คำในมิติทำเนียบออกเป็น 2 ส่วน คือ 1) ทำเนียบภาษาตามประเภทไวยากรณ์ พบการใช้คำที่ปรากฎเป็นลักษณะเด่นจำนวนทั้งสิ้น 11 ประเภท โดย 3 อันดับแรกที่พบการใช้สูงสุด ได้แก่ การใช้คำซ้ำ การใช้คำลักษณวิเศษณ์ การใช้คำสัมผัสคล้องจอง และ 2) ทำเนียบภาษาตามกลุ่มความหมาย แบ่งเป็นจำนวนทั้งสิ้น 6 กลุ่มความหมาย ได้แก่ หมวดคำที่เกี่ยวข้องจิตใจ สติปัญญา ความคิด ความรู้สึกของมนุษย์ในเชิงจิตวิทยา หมวดคำที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการกระทำของมนุษย์ในเชิงพฤติกรรม หมวดคำที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการมีหรือการสร้างปฏิสัมพันธ์ทางสังคมของมนุษย์ หมวดคำที่เกี่ยวข้องกับสรรพสิ่ง สัจธรรมต่าง ๆ ของมนุษย์ หมวดคำที่เกี่ยวข้องกับบ้านเมือง สภาพสังคมและเศรษฐกิจ และหมวดคำที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเวลา การสังเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างทำเนียบภาษากับเนื้อหาต่างประเภทในการสื่อสารเพื่อสร้างแรงบันดาลใจของ สินธุเสน เขจรบุตร ประกอบด้วยเนื้อหาต่างประเภทจำนวน 2 กลุ่มหลัก คือ 1) ประเภทเนื้อหาด้านการดำเนินชีวิต และ 2) ประเภทเนื้อหาด้านความสัมพันธ์ ที่ส่งผลต่อลักษณะการใช้ทำเนียบภาษาตามประเภทไวยากรณ์และทำเนียบภาษาตามกลุ่มความหมายที่แตกต่างกัน ซึ่งลักษณะการใช้ภาษาดังกล่าวข้างต้นมีความสำคัญต่อการสร้างเอกลักษณ์ของผู้พูดในฐานะนักสร้างแรงบันดาลใจให้กับผู้ฟังหลากหลายกลุ่มอย่างครอบคลุม และได้รับความนิยมในสังคมออนไลน์เป็นอย่างมาก ทั้งนี้ พบว่า โครงสร้างการออกแบบสารเพื่อสร้างแรงบันดาลใจของสินธุเสน เขจรบุตร มีลักษณะเด่น กล่าวคือ ส่วนนำ เริ่มต้นการพูดด้วยการถามนำหรือการตั้งคำถามก่อนนำเข้าสู่เรื่องที่จะพูด เพื่อกระตุ้นให้ผู้ฟังมีส่วนร่วมตลอดจนเป็นการสร้างปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผู้พูดกับผู้ฟัง ส่วนเนื้อหา เป็นการเล่าตามลำดับเวลาแบบเรื่องเล่าหรือเป็นการอธิบาย แต่จะมีการลงรายละเอียดที่มากกว่าหรือเป็นการขยายสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นจากส่วนนำ ส่วนสรุป ผู้พูดใช้อนุพากย์บอกเล่าที่มีรูปแบบของการฝากหรือทิ้งด้วยถ้อยคำอย่างวลี “เพราะฉะนั้น จงจำไว้ว่า” สอดคล้องกับความคุ้นเคยของคนไทยคล้ายการฟังนิทานอีสปที่ทิ้งท้ายด้วยข้อคิด หลังจากนั้นจะเป็นการกล่าวลาด้วยการอวยพรเพื่อแสดงความปรารถนาดี

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสำรวจและอธิบายการเปิดรับ ทัศนคติต่อการสื่อสารตราสินค้าประเด็นเรื่องความหลากหลายทางเพศ และการตัดสินใจซื้อผู้บริโภคเจเนอเรชันมี เป็นการวิจัยนำร่องใช้รูปแบบการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจ ใช้แบบสอบถามเป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บข้อมูล กลุ่มตัวอย่างคือผู้บริโภคกลุ่มเจเนอเรชันมี ที่อาศัย ทำงาน ศึกษาในเขตกรุงเทพมหานครและปริมณฑล จำนวน 200 คน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า กลุ่มตัวอย่างมีการเปิดรับการสื่อสารตราสินค้าประเด็นเรื่องความหลากหลายทางเพศโดยรวมในระดับบางครั้ง มีทัศนคติเชิงบวกต่อตราสินค้าที่สื่อสารประเด็นเรื่องความหลากหลายทางเพศ และมีการตัดสินใจซื้อตราสินค้าที่มีการสื่อสารประเด็นเรื่องความหลากหลายทางเพศโดยรวมอยู่ในระดับสูง การตัดสินใจซื้ออยู่ในระดับสูงและเมื่อตัดสินใจเลือกซื้อแล้วจะไม่เปลี่ยนใจอยู่ในระดับสูงเช่นกัน ผลการทดสอบสมมติฐานสรุปได้ว่า ผู้บริโภคกลุ่มเจเนอเรชันมีที่ไม่ระบุเพศมีทัศนคติต่อการสื่อสารตราสินค้าประเด็นเรื่องความหลากหลายทางเพศเชิงบวกมากกว่าเพศชายและหญิง อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 และทัศนคติต่อการสื่อสารตราสินค้าในประเด็นเรื่องความหลากหลายทางเพศ มีความสัมพันธ์ กับการตัดสินใจซื้ออย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .01 ทั้งนี้เป็นความสัมพันธ์ในระดับค่อนข้างสูงและมีทิศทางแปรตามกัน
