Current Practices Of Obesity Pharmacotherapy, Bariatric Surgery Referral And Coding For Counselling By Healthcare Professionals, Christine Petrin, Scott Kahan, Monique Turner, C. Gallagher, William Dietz
Health Policy and Management Faculty Publications
Introduction
Rates of obesity pharmacotherapy use, bariatric surgery and intensive behavioural counselling have been extremely low.
Objectives
The primary objective of this study was to survey healthcare provider beliefs, practice and knowledge regarding obesity management.
Methods
Primary care physicians (PCPs), OB‐GYN physicians and nurse practitioners (NPs) responded to a web‐based survey related to drug therapy practice, bariatric surgery referral and reimbursement coding practice.
Results
Rates of reported use of obesity pharmacotherapy appear to be increasing among PCPs, which is likely related to the approval of four new obesity pharmacotherapy agents since 2012. Rates of pharmacotherapy use among OB‐GYNs and NPs …

Ties That Bind: Marital Networks And Politics In Punjab, Pakistan, Stephen Lyon, Muhammad Aurang Zeb Mughal
Ties That Bind: Marital Networks And Politics In Punjab, Pakistan, Stephen Lyon, Muhammad Aurang Zeb Mughal
Faculty & Staff Publications
Pakistani politics are characterised by strong corporate social links through kinship and caste that impose reciprocal obligations and rights. Marital maps enable allow for accurate prediction of allegiances and decision making and contribute to a transparent assessment of political processes in the country. While much of the focus on reciprocal relations has understandably been on descent relations (dynasties), the complex network of marital alliances that cut across lineage and sectarian divides helps explain notable levels of stability despite the fragility of the state and other public institutions. Using the example of one of the most successful political dynasties in post …

Profiles Of Neuropsychological Functioning In Children And Adolescents With Spina Bifida: Associations With Biopsychosocial Predictors And Functional Outcomes, Grayson N. Holmbeck, Rachel M. Wasserman
Psychology: Faculty Publications and Other Works
The current study examined neuropsychological performance among children with spina bifida (SB) to determine biological and functional correlates of distinct “profiles” of cognitive functioning. Methods: A total of 95 children with SB myelomeningocele (ages, 8–15 years) completed a neuropsychological assessment battery. Hierarchical and non-hierarchical cluster analyses were used to identify and confirm a cluster solution. Hypothesized predictors of cluster membership included lesion level, number of shunt surgeries, history of seizures, age, ethnicity, socio-economic status, and family stress. Outcomes included independence, academic success, expectations for the future, and quality of life. Results: Ward’s cluster method indicated a three-cluster solution, and was …

The Role, Accomplishments, And Challenges Of The Congressional Black Caucus Veterans Braintrust, Ron E. Armstead
William Monroe Trotter Institute Publications
In 1971, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) began its seminal investigation of racism in the military. A year into the investigation, the caucus reported the military had done little, if anything, to address racism in the ranks (188 Cong. Rec., 6739-6744, 1972). The problem continued as one of the most critical issues for the CBC during the latter years of the Vietnam War (188 Cong. Rec. pp. E8674-8688).
Concurrently, in 1971, the CBC held its first annual dinner, which some 500 people attended, including the late actor Ozzie Davis. Over the years, this dinner has grown into a five-day legislative …

CrossFit can be described as a relatively new fitness training method that is based on a variety of high-intensity weight training, body weight movements, and cardiovascular exercise. CrossFit participants (N = 206; Mage = 37.6 years), majority Caucasian (76%), females (58%), who reported attending three (n = 91; 44.2%) and five (n = 78; 37.9%) CrossFit sessions per week completed online surveys …
