Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law
Many people do all of their banking online, we and our children communicate with peers through computer systems, and there are many jobs that require near continuous interaction with computer systems. Criminals, however, are also “connected”, and our online interaction provides them a conduit into our information like never before. Our credit card numbers and other fiscal information are at risk, our children's personal information is exposed to the world, and our professional reputations are on the line.
The discipline of Digital Forensics in law enforcement agencies around the nation and world has grown to match the increased risk and …

Designing A Data Warehouse For Cyber Crimes, Il-Yeol Song, John D. Maguire, Ki Jung Lee, Namyoun Choi, Xiaohua Hu, Peter Chen
Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law
One of the greatest challenges facing modern society is the rising tide of cyber crimes. These crimes, since they rarely fit the model of conventional crimes, are difficult to investigate, hard to analyze, and difficult to prosecute. Collecting data in a unified framework is a mandatory step that will assist the investigator in sorting through the mountains of data. In this paper, we explore designing a dimensional model for a data warehouse that can be used in analyzing cyber crime data. We also present some interesting queries and the types of cyber crime analyses that can be performed based on …

With Donald Trump's campaign for president aimed more at solidifying his base rather than reaching out to independents and undecided voters, Republican activists have shifted their focus to holding their Senate majority, which recent polls suggest lie on a knife's edge. The Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race ranks among the major prizes Democrats hope to capture enroute to the magic number 51. [excerpt]

Young African Leaders Journal of Development
African countries are limited in unifying themselves due to the boundaries and various requirements which hinder their free and perfect mobility, manifested in visa requirement, multi-currencies, different leadership, insecurity, unemployment, poor resource utilisation and poor production. Leadership, perfect mobility and industrialisation are the major sectors to Africa’s unification and prosperity. There is always the thinking that perhaps the means used by the imperialists to exploit Africa’s minerals and partitioning, that in return led to Europe’s industrialisation, could be the very means to Africa’s unification, industrialisation and becoming a first world continent. The effort to find a possible means of providing …

On June 23, 2016, the citizens of the United Kingdom (UK) voted by a narrow margin to withdraw from the European Union (EU) and on October 2, 2016, the recently chosen Prime Minister, Theresa May, announced that her government would invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty by the end of March 2017 triggering the process of exiting the EU. The purpose of this note is to review the history of the EU and the procedures a country has to follow to withdraw from it. An Assessment Of The Resort Tax: Collections And Usage In Montana Communities, Kara Grau
Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research Publications
This report focuses on ten Montana communities that have been designated resort areas by the Montana Department of Commerce and voters in those communities have approved a local Resort Tax. The Resort Tax, according to state statute, cannot exceed three percent, and can be collected on luxury items and on goods and services sold at establishments that cater to travelers, such as hotels and restaurants. The intent of the Resort Tax is to provide revenue to aid the communities in maintenance or improvements to infrastructure as well as having the potential to fund other community improvements or programs. The Effects Of Borrowing Rates On Intra-Firm Disequilibria Between Equity Prices And Cds Premiums – Evidence From Dynamic Panel Analysis., Robert J. Brown
The Effects Of Borrowing Rates On Intra-Firm Disequilibria Between Equity Prices And Cds Premiums – Evidence From Dynamic Panel Analysis., Robert J. Brown
Undergraduate Economic Review
Cointegration techniques are used to estimate the long run equilibrium relationship between a firm’s CDS premium and its equity price, for a panel of large-cap US firms. From these results, the estimated disequilibrium in daily CDS premiums, with respect to equity prices, is constructed. Dynamic panel methods are employed to show the importance of lagged changes in libor rates as determinants of the estimated disequilibrium. Evidence is found that the extent to which the markets deviate from equilibrium will increase as one-month libor rates rise, but, counter-intuitively, will decrease (return towards equilibrium) as longer term libor rates rise.
Using Self-Determination Theory To Improve College Access Among Minority Student Populations, Tyler Smith
Using Self-Determination Theory To Improve College Access Among Minority Student Populations, Tyler Smith
SPACE: Student Perspectives About Civic Engagement
College aspirations among high school students have increased substantially in recent years, but minority students are only making up a small portion of the total college population. Resulting from the disparities seen in enrollment among the minority populations, many college preparation programs have developed. These programs seek to motivate students to attend college through increasing competence, by developing feelings of community among other methods. Self-determination theory states that to inhibit motivation, three psychological needs are to be met: competence, connectedness and autonomy (Ryan & Deci, 2000a). Based upon this theory, it was believed that its application would increase the effectiveness …

SPACE: Student Perspectives About Civic Engagement
This paper accounts a service learner’s experience at Chicagoland Methodist Senior Services (CMSS) in conjunction with R.J. Havighurst’s Activity theory. There is great significance in researching aging issues and identifying markers of successful aging, as the population is growing older and people are living longer. Activity theory is one approach to successful aging attainment that focuses on participation in activities being continually necessary to the journey of aging. Previous literature examines the activity theory and its emphasis on creating meaning in the lives of older adults. Using research on the activity theory as a starting point, I participated in …
