Teachability In Leading Organizational Mentees: A Narrative Analysis Of Reverse Mentoring As Reflexive Moments For Coping In Personal Crisis, Robert Tyler Spradley Ph.D., James E. Towns Ph.D. Oct 2016

Teachability In Leading Organizational Mentees: A Narrative Analysis Of Reverse Mentoring As Reflexive Moments For Coping In Personal Crisis, Robert Tyler Spradley Ph.D., James E. Towns Ph.D.

Journal of Human Services: Training, Research, and Practice

Mentoring is often situated in leadership and coaching literature as a formal, strategic and a beneficial experience. Additional, studies indicate that mentor/mentee relationships can cause tension and even workplace harassment. Most of these studies focus on the power, whether negative or positive, of the leader versus the mentored. This study synthesizes stories lived and stories told using narrative analysis to balance how reverse mentoring simultaneously assists mentors and mentees in making sense of complex communication environments. Highlighting teachability as a chief characteristic of leading, reverse mentoring co-constructs new narratives for both mentor and mentee to cope with crisis situations. Reciprocal …

The Relationship Between Adolescents' Life Satisfaction And Academic Achievement: A Longitudinal Analysis, Emily E. Esposito

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The current study aimed to replicate and extend recent research by Ng, Huebner, and Hills (2015) by investigating the longitudinal, bidirectional relationship between life satisfaction and academic achievement among adolescents. Specifically, students’ baseline (Time 1) life satisfaction was examined as a predictor of academic achievement (as measured by GPA, FCAT-reading DSS scores, attitudes toward school, and goal valuation) one year later (Time 2). The same four academic achievement variables at Time 1 were also examined as a predictor of life satisfaction one year later at Time 2. Positive affect and negative affect were examined as moderators of those relationships. An …

Women In The Shadows : Gender, Puppets, And The Power Of Tradition In Bali, Jennifer Goodlander

Ohio University Press Open Access Books

Wayang kulit, or shadow puppetry, connects a mythic past to the present through public ritual performance and is one of most important performance traditions in Bali. The dalang, or puppeteer, is revered in Balinese society as a teacher and spiritual leader. Recently, women have begun to study and perform in this traditionally male role, an innovation that has triggered resistance and controversy.
In Women in the Shadows, Jennifer Goodlander draws on her own experience training as a dalang as well as interviews with early women dalang and leading artists to upend the usual assessments of such gender role shifts. She …

Designing The Haptic Interface For Morse Code, Michael Walker Oct 2016

Designing The Haptic Interface For Morse Code, Michael Walker

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Two siblings have a muscular degenerative condition that has rendered them mostly blind, deaf and paraplegic. Currently, the siblings receive communication by close range sign language several feet in front of their vision. Due to the degenerative nature of their condition, it is believed that the siblings will eventually become completely blind and unable to communicate in this fashion. There are no augmented communication devices on the market that allow communication reception for individuals who cannot see, hear or possess hand dexterity (such as braille reading). To help the siblings communicate, the proposed communication device will transmit Morse code information …

Analysis Of Managerial Decision-Making Within Florida’S Total Maximum Daily Load Program, Justin Barthle Oct 2016

Analysis Of Managerial Decision-Making Within Florida’S Total Maximum Daily Load Program, Justin Barthle

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Water quality has evolved legislatively from protection of navigation routes and quantity of sources to more emphasis on impairments on water quality for surface and groundwater sources. Nonpoint or diffuse sources of impairments represents a major challenge for management due to the complexity of its sources and difficulty in tracking.

The most cited sections on public policy analysis focuses on the overall process agencies employ to understand the results the program yields. Often overlooked are finer details and mechanisms, such as decision-making and priority setting, which have a great impact on the overall process. To investigate these factors, we need …

Adaptive Styles And Coping Strategies Of Youth Diagnosed With Cancer: Relationship To Well-Being, Psychosocial And Educational Adjustment, And Parents’ Adaptive Styles, Renee Corbett Oct 2016

Adaptive Styles And Coping Strategies Of Youth Diagnosed With Cancer: Relationship To Well-Being, Psychosocial And Educational Adjustment, And Parents’ Adaptive Styles, Renee Corbett

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Although almost 16,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer each year, the incident rates have remained stable over recent years, and mortality has decreased consistently since 1975 (American Cancer Society, 2016). With increased survivorship, research and practice in pediatric oncology has focused more on the psychosocial well-being of patients during and after treatment. With research repeatedly indicating that patients and families appear to exhibit great resilience and adjustment, and low incidences of psychosocial difficulties (e.g., Kazak, 1994, Eiser et al. 2000), some researchers have examined adaptive style as a possible construct that may help explain the predominantly positive outcomes …

The Cross-National Generalizability Of Biographical Data: An Examination Within A Multinational Organization, Adam J. Ducey

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In an increasingly interconnected economy, organizations are frequently operating beyond national borders. International partnerships, joint ventures, mergers, and acquisitions have expanded the labor market from a domestic to an international perspective. In this environment, multinational organizations demand cost-effective personnel selection tools to help them identify top talent from different countries, geographical regions, and cultures.

The purpose of the current research was to evaluate the global utility of biographical data inventories, a standardized self-report selection method that asks job applicants questions about prior behaviors and experiences. Results from two studies involving participants from 7 country clusters, across four continents, and two …

The Atomic Renaissance: The Emergence Of American Mystery Writers, Beth Turcy Kilmarx Oct 2016

The Atomic Renaissance: The Emergence Of American Mystery Writers, Beth Turcy Kilmarx

Library Scholarship

The first Golden Age of Mystery was the 20 year span between the two world wars, from 1919 to 1939. Even after almost a century, its writers still remain familiar names with popular titles. What these Golden Age writers and their stories shared in common were three major themes: they each had a Great Detective in charge, who was a larger-than-life character whose deductive brain solved the murder and/or mystery, a puzzle that would stump the average person. Agatha Christie had her Hercule Poirot, Dashiell Hammett had his Nick and Nora Charles and Sam Spade, and Earle Stanley Gardener had …

Help-To-Buy Scheme Is Detached From How We Really Live, Lorcan Sirr Oct 2016

Help-To-Buy Scheme Is Detached From How We Really Live, Lorcan Sirr

Media

The government’s help-tobuy scheme, announced in the budget, was rightfully criticised by many people. Various ministers seemed a little surprised, if not a bit tetchy, that fewpeople had rowed in behind their latest genius wheeze. In research carried out by Davy stockbrokers and the property website myhome.ie, even firsttime buyers did not expect a helpto- buy scheme (people are not too easily schmoozed these days). Two other things flew under the radar when the proposal was announced. First, the silence from retail banks was deafening, which was strange given the allegedly positive response from the Central Bank. It nowlooks as …

The authors therefore sought to investigate the patient care phenomenon from college health care providers’ lived experiences. The patient care phenomenon was explored via in-depth interviews with 11 college health care providers at universities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the United States. The phenomenological theoretical framework of the study revealed five themes of patient care during data analysis: health education, behavioral health, student …

Humanization Through Action Research As Methodology, Jeffrey D. Radloff, Cole Joslyn, Brenda Capobianco

The Qualitative Report

The purpose of this action research study was to critically examine the use of action research as a mechanism to enhance graduate students’ development as emerging qualitative researchers. Although action research has been recognized as an effective means of transforming teaching practices, studies examining its use among graduate students learning to become qualitative researchers are lacking. Participants profiled in this study include two graduate students and one teacher educator. The context of the study was a graduate level course on action research where all three participants identified starting points, employed distinct action strategies, engaged in sustained, critical reflection, and developed …

Protection Of Minorities In International Politics, Ilir Zylfiu, Fadil Osmani Oct 2016

Protection Of Minorities In International Politics, Ilir Zylfiu, Fadil Osmani

UBT International Conference

The problem of the protection of minorities was raised as an issue in the Treaty of Versailles, completed at the end of the war by the major Allied powers. The Allies had imposed certain obligations on the treatment of minorities to such states that had them in their territories. They also forecasted a trusted international organization with universal character, the League of Nations, the mission to ensure the protection of European minorities. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall and communist regimes, Europe was a eitness nationalism outbreak. Whole regions were covered with ethnic conflicts which were a serious threat …

Cloud Computing And Enterprise Data Reliability, Luan Gashi Oct 2016

Cloud Computing And Enterprise Data Reliability, Luan Gashi

UBT International Conference

Cloud services offer many benefits from information and communication technology that to be credible must first be secured. To use the potential of cloud computing, data is transferred, processed and stored in the infrastructures of these service providers. This indicates that the owners of data, particularly enterprises, have puzzled when storing their data is done outside the scope of their control.

Research conducted on this topic show how this should be addressed unequivocally. The provided information on the organization of cloud computing models, services and standards, with a focus on security aspects in protecting enterprise data where emphasis shows how …

In a competitive higher education provision, the overall student satisfaction goes beyond a qualitative education, but including also other important aspects, such as catering, study environment, administration and other important issues. The aim of this study was to adapt new tools for quality assurance in higher education in Kosovo from a comprehensive satisfaction perspective. Internal consistency and inter-theme correlations were examined as a form of questionnaire standardization in an Albanian sample of students. In general, …

Albanian’S Audio-Visual Information In Kosovo From The Year 1945-1990, Ferid Selimi Oct 2016

Albanian’S Audio-Visual Information In Kosovo From The Year 1945-1990, Ferid Selimi

UBT International Conference

Albanian information via radio waves emanate in Kosovo in 1945. Respectively, Radio Pristina, was the first audio media in Kosovo that saw light, and originally had headquarters in Prizren. Thirty years later, precisely in 1975, the capital of Kosovo (then an autonomous province within the former Yugoslavia) opens an information window in albanian, also with visual images. So, it was 1975 when the television started launching a program, which informed the albanian kosovars in albanian language. These two mediums for albanians living in the former Yugoslavia were the most heard mediums, respectively viewed. Nevertheless, this information lasted 45 years through …

Some Propositions About Inverse Semigroups, Osman Hysa, Arben Reka Oct 2016

Some Propositions About Inverse Semigroups, Osman Hysa, Arben Reka

UBT International Conference

The inverse semigroups are semigroups studied by many algebraists. In this paper we will formulate and prove some other propositions on these semigroups. So we will prove two propositions concerning the closure of a subsemigroup of a given inverse semigroup S, within the meaning introduced by Schein in 1962, two propositions on the group congruence on a normal subsemigroup of the inverse semigroup S, and a proposition about closed subsemigroup assertion of an inverse semigroup S.
