An Approach To Optimal Hyperspectral And Multispectral Signature And Image Fusion For Detecting Hidden Targets On Shorelines, Charles R. Bostater

Hyperspectral and multispectral imagery of shorelines collected from airborne and shipborne platforms are used following pushbroom imagery corrections using inertial motion motions units and augmented global positioning data and Kalman filtering. Corrected radiance or reflectance images are then used to optimize synthetic high spatial resolution spectral signatures resulting from an optimized data fusion process. The process demonstrated utilizes littoral zone features from imagery acquired in the Gulf of Mexico region. Residential Mobility During Adolescence: Even "Upward" Moves Predict High School Dropout, Molly W. Metzger, Patrick J. Fowler, Bennett Kelberman

Center for Social Development Research

Racial and economic segregation have long endured as systemic challenges in U.S. metropolitan areas. To combat the inequalities of segregation, two broad policy approaches have emerged: (1) preservation stresses investment in low-income neighborhoods, and (2) mobility stresses moving households in low-income areas to more affluent areas. Our recent study reveals some possible unintended consequences of the latter approach, particularly for adolescents. We find that moving during adolescence is associated with decreased odds of graduating from high school, even when moving to significantly higher income neighborhoods.

Publications and Research

Background. This study examined the time-variant association between daily minority stress and daily affect among gay and bisexual men. Tests of time-lagged associations allow for a stronger causal examination of minority stress-affect associations compared with static assessments. Multilevel modeling allows for comparison of associations between minority stress and daily affect when minority stress is modeled as a between-person factor and a within-person time-fluctuating state.

Methods. 371 gay and bisexual men in New York City completed a 30-day daily diary, recording daily experiences of minority stress and positive affect (PA), negative affect (NA), and anxious affect (AA). Multilevel analyses examined …

The Communication Skills Accounting Firms Desire In New Hires, Leticia Camacho

Faculty Publications

Interviews were conducted with human resource (HR) managers from accounting firms to determine managers’ expectations of future accounting graduates. Results show HR managers are looking to hire individuals that possess strong oral and written communication skills. HR managers also reported that they expect students to use these skills to represent their company well in meetings, presentations, client appointments, as well as print and electronic correspondence. The study concludes with a discussion of how business librarians can assist faculty in preparing accounting students for successful careers and of implications for librarians to consider in their library instruction and other librarianship activities.

The first-year experience that students have with the library is integral to their success in college and beyond. This poster explores the critical relationship students have with the library and how to nurture it in the first year. Redundancy of material covered in instruction sessions could be off-putting and diminish the perceptions these students have of the library and its offerings. Collecting student feedback to determine the redundancy that students may be experiencing in these first-year course library instruction sessions and the usefulness of the information presented to them can help to inform us about future materials covered.
