The purpose of this study was to measure the amount of perceived social support that is present among adult alcoholics that are in treatment programs. The research dealt specifically with perceived social support among adult alcoholics that are undergoing treatment through mutual aid/self help Alcoholics Anonymous group meetings. To do this, research was gathered from numerous meetings within the San Bernardino and Riverside County areas.

The present study aims to establish a direct link between insufficiences in context processing and cognitive deficits related to anxiety symptoms and thus enhance the overall understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the observed discrepancies in cognitive performance. The goal of the present investigation was to apply Braver's model of cognitive control to groups selected on their differences in trait anxiety and explore their relationship. Twenty-two career child welfare social workers' perceptions of their long-term employment were examined. If these reasons can be identified, child welfare agencies could possibly develop hiring processes, training systems, and other organizational processes that would target and nurture the right social worker for the job. A proposal was developed for a one week, residential, summer camp program for children 12-15 years to explore the out doors in a safe and fun way and to give children a chance to learn about the environment using hands on lessons and activities. The purpose of this study was to examine a 149-day period surrounding the capture of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein on December 13th, 2003. Daily stock returns were obtained from ten major stock market indexes, five from emerging Middle Eastern countries and five from established markets such as the United States and Japan. The ultimate significance of this study is that it can provide insight into whether or not the change of regime in Iraq had a stabilizing or destabilizing impact on the emerging markets of Iraq. This project focused on the concept that family childcare providers who completed "Building Literacy Bridges" intervention project, which included interactive early literacy classes on phonological and print awareness, dialogic and shared reading skills, as well as providing a literacy rich environment, would implement those concepts into their daily care with children. Nine family childcare providers completed the four-hour per week, four-week intervention project.

This study explores Britain's and the United States' relationship with the Middle East, as specific examples of the theory of imperialism. The economic motivations for Britain's involvement in the Middle East are shown to be similar to those of the United States' involvement, and both of these are consistent with the theory of imperialism.

The purpose of this research was to examine the perceptions of parents of different cultures on how to cope with stress in relation to caring for a child with Down syndrome. This study targeted parents that attend Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles (DSALA) support groups. DSALA has support groups all over Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. The sample of participants consisted of nine Caucasian, eight Latino, and three multiethnic mothers for a total of twenty.

This research will examine the movements of juvenile deliquents residing in the desert communities of Southern California. The purpose of this study was to shed light on the distances routinely traveled by juvenile delinquents to reach their activity places, including recreational locations and school. The research used juveline offender data from an ongoing evaluation of a Riverside County, California youth diversion program. This study examines juveniles in 56 California cities most of which would be classified as rural. This study extends the findings of Elder and Rudolph by predicting that thinking about retirement and the attendance at planning meetings are positively related to both reitrement satisfaction and adjustment. As a result, this study examined the relationship between the predictor variables of formal and informal planning with the criterion variables of retirement satisfaction and retirement adjustment using archival data from the first wave (1992) of the nationally representative Health and Retirement Study (HRS). In addition, this study examined whether length of retirement moderates the relationship between formal and informal planning and retirement satisfaction and retirement adjustment.

The purpose of this study was to examine attitudes of aquatic instructors (N = 23) toward teaching swimming to children with mild and severe disabilities in an inclusive setting. Aquatic instructors from 23 cities in 7 countries participated in the study. Data were collected by mail survey using the Aquatic Instructors Attitudes Toward Teaching Swimming to Individuals With Disabilities questionnaire (Conatser, Block, & Lapore, 2000). A correlated t test showed that aquatic instructors were significantly more favorable toward teaching aquatics to children with mild disabilities than children with severe disabilities. Classism, i.e., socioeconomic stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination that college students direct toward their peers, was examined. A sample of 53 undergraduate students (36 women and 17 men), ages 18 to 22 years (M = 19.0, SD = 1.2), were recruited from psychology courses. Utilizing a computer-administered questionnaire, participants were randomly assigned to rate a fictitious student whose family income was specified as among the lowest or highest at the college. Upper Income targets were rated as more sociable, judgmental, attractive, more likely to use alcohol and drugs, and more likely to belong to a fraternity or sorority. Lower Income targets …
