Computer And Internet Use By Health Care Professionals In A Rural Medical College In India, Mayank Jasvantray Trivedi, Anuradha Joshi

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

A study was conducted at Pramukhswami Medical College in Karamsad, India, to assess the use of computers and the Internet by health care professionals, in order to gain more information about information-seeking behavior. Results of a questionnaire that was completed by 194 respondents frequent Internet use by nearly all. Respondents use the Internet most often to seek teaching and patient care information. While most respondents reported adequate or good computer skills, few had formal training. It is recommended that the library take advantage of the opportunity to provide an information literacy program and further information about useful web sources.

The title, Liberal Arts 2.0., "stems from the term Web 2.0, which refers to the recent evolution of the Web as interactive, participatory, collaborative and collective. Web 2.0 includes blogs, wikis, user-generated media, social networking: like much of what it describes, the definition is amorphous and inexact." Baird believes that Web 2.0 and all that it implies will necessitate a revision of the way we do liberal arts and thus the title “Liberal Arts 2.0.”

Recently, policymakers at the Arkansas Department of Education were pleased to release the results of the 2008 Benchmark exams, which indicate more Arkansas students are becoming proficient each year. This is good news for Arkansas, as the Benchmark exam is an Arkansas developed exam used to compare student performance to state standards. Nevertheless, it is also important to take note of how Arkansas students perform compared to students across the nation, which is where the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) plays an important role. Activity In Both Hippocampus And Perirhinal Cortex Predicts The Memory Strength Of Subsequently Remembered Information, Y. Schrager, C. Brock Kirwan, L. R. Squire

An influential idea about memory and medial temporal lobe function suggests that hippocampal activity predicts subsequent recognition success only when decisions are based on recollection, whereas perirhinal activity predicts subsequent recognition success when decisions are based on familiarity. An alternative idea is that hippocampal and perirhinal activity are both sensitive to the level of overall memory strength. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, we have tested the relationship between brain activity during learning and subsequent memory strength. Activity in a number of cortical regions (including regions within what has been termed the default network) was negatively correlated with subsequent memory strength, …

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

The Olympics did not go very well for Taiwan, which ended up winning only 4 bronze medals, its worst result in 20 years. Developmental Aspects Of Diabetes Knowledge, Kari Morgan

Theses and Dissertations

The Test of Diabetes Knowledge (TDK) was studied to determine its appropriateness for children. Early onset diabetes was examined for residual effects on poorer adolescent understanding of diabetes and problem solving that could affect self-care behaviors. Participant groups were created as children (<12) and adolescents (≥12). A second division created a group of adolescents with early onset disease (EOD < 12 years) and with late onset disease (LOD >12 years). Participants were predominantly Caucasian and from middle class families. 51% were boys with an average age of 12.95 years, disease duration of 4.35 years and onset age of 8.58 years. Children scored significantly lower and responded “I don’t know” significantly more often for all levels of knowledge when compared to adolescents. EOD and LOD group …
