Background: Physical inactivity and obesity are major public health issues. Recent studies have provided evidence that attributes of the built environment influence physical activity among adults and that factors such as greater urban sprawl are related to overweight and obesity. Few studies have developed objective individual-level measures of the built environment, a geographic scale that may be more relevant to certain types of physical activity, such as walking. In addition, further research is needed to assess the associations of both objective and perceived environmental factors with physical activity. During a country wide survey undertaken by Swiss Foundation for Mine-action (FSD) between 2003-05 it was determined that approximately km2 of land was contaminated with mines and Un-exploded Ordnance (UXO). However, during the past 5 years, various activities such as Land Release (LR), Technical Survey (TS) and Clearance, has reduced the SHAs level to approximately 15-17 km2. UNDP hired Dr. Robert Keeley of RK Consulting Ltd (the 'Consultant') to undertake an Outcome Evaluation of the Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) 2005-2009, Outcome #6 to "Create a sustainable national institution to plan, coordinate and implement comprehensive mine action." The Politics Of Economic Performance, And The Trade Union Movement, 1970-1982, John Hogan, Gary Murphy

Here we argue that the relationship between the main Irish political parties and the trade unions, in the 1970s, was largely based upon political imperatives, with an economic subtext. The absence of strong ideological difference between the two largest Irish political parties meant they were willing to deal with the trade union moment in a somewhat similar fashion. At the start of the 1970s, the Fianna Fail government prodded the ICTU into a “voluntary” national wage agreement. This agreement was regarded as a means of stabilising the economy, attracting foreign investment, and improving Fianna Fail’s image with the electorate. While …

Pakistanhas been one of the fastest growing economies inAsiafor last five years. Economic growth rates have risen from 1.8 percent in 2000/01 to average 6-7 percent a year. ForPakistanthese rates are not spectacular but a reversion to mean. It may be recalled that the average annual growth rate of GDP over 60 year period ofPakistanhas been 5.2 percent. Manufacturing sector output growth was over 15 percent, exports have doubled in US dollar terms in 5 years and an open trade regime has allowed imports to triple. Pakistan's Trade Liberalisation Experience And The Way Forward, Ishrat Husain Dr.
Faculty Research - Newspaper and Magazine Articles
The article reviews Pakistan's economic growth and trade liberalisation reforms over the preceding decade, noting reduced tariffs, eliminated quantitative restrictions and improved export performance. It draws five lessons from Pakistan's reform experience, including the importance of political stability, effective communication, inter-agency coordination, adaptable policy objectives, and institution building at provincial and local levels. The author also discusses prospects for greater regional trade integration with India and South Asia.
