The Anchor, Volume 120.13: January 24, 2007, Hope College
The Anchor: 2007
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
Farm Wages In Nebraska, H. Douglas Jose
Farm Wages In Nebraska, H. Douglas Jose
Cornhusker Economics
As farm sizes increase, questions related to labor management, employee working conditions and employee wages become more important. Farm operators want to know if the wages they are providing are competitive and employees want to ensure they are being compensated fairly. The most comprehensive set of information on farm wages in this region is a report published by Iowa State University in 2006. This resulted from a survey of Iowa farmers who employ one or more workers on a full-time basis. Another source of information is the periodic report of farm wages published by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

Prospects For Japanese Investors In Pakistan, Ishrat Husain Dr.
Faculty Research - Talks, Speeches, & Discourse
As a young Civil Service office of Pakistan I had the distinct privilege of receiving my training in the Ministry of Finance National Tax Administration Bureau of Japan in 1973. Having observed first hand the strong work ethic, discipline, teamwork and decision making by Consensus. I came back convinced that Pakistan and Pakistanis have a lot to learn from Japan. I have become an active proponent of the policy for Pakistan to look towards East for the simple reason that East Asian Countries and China have benefited a lot by forging close economic collaboration with Japan. The record of this …

Behrman, Meena Cabral De Mello, Paul Gertler, Lydia Kapiriri, Reynaldo Martorell, Mary Eming Young, International Child Development Steering Group
Psychology and Child Development
This paper is the third in the Child Development Series. The first paper showed that more than 200 million children under 5 years of age in developing countries do not reach their developmental potential. The second paper identified four well-documented risks: stunting, iodine deficiency, iron deficiency anaemia, and inadequate cognitive stimulation, plus four potential risks based on epidemiological evidence: maternal depression, violence exposure, environmental contamination, and malaria. This paper assesses strategies to promote child development and to prevent or ameliorate the loss of developmental potential. The most effective early child development programmes provide direct learning experiences to children and families, …

The National Labor Relations Act And Flexible Work Arrangements: An Overview Of Existing Law And Proposals For Reform, Workplace Flexibility 2010, Georgetown University Law Center
Memos and Fact Sheets
The scheduling of work hours is important to employers and employees alike. Employers must ensure sufficient staffing to meet workload demands; employees must balance work with other aspects of their lives. Over the past several years, the tendency to view these needs as mutually exclusive has slowly given way to increased discussion of and experimentation with flexible work arrangements as an effective way to balance work-life demands. While these workplace flexibility initiatives take many forms, the majority of them require collaboration between employers and employees regarding work hours and conditions.

Imagining A Progressive And Comprehensive Consumption Tax, Sean K. Raft
Imagining A Progressive And Comprehensive Consumption Tax, Sean K. Raft
ExpressO
The income tax system has become quite a mess. Unfortunately, the brunt of that mess falls primarily on the backs of the individual taxpayer, who is required to sift through the tens of thousands of pages of instructions and tax rules just to calculate, file, and pay what they owe. The filing burden and costs of compliance are already exorbitant, but they are only increasing.
In response to the complaints over the increasing complication, economists and tax scholars have imagined ways to improve or replace the income tax. Yet, the alternatives are either regressive or fail to generate enough revenue …

CBER Research Report
Excerpt from the executive summary:
The offering of tax and other location-based incentives to firms considering locating operations in a state, as well as firms with existing operations, has become a common practice of both state and local governments in the past thirty years. However, these programs are not without their critics. Some of the concerns about these programs arise from the lack of strong evidence, either supportive or critical of these programs. The Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development contracted with the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) to produce a series of reports examining the effectiveness of tax …
