Effects Of Rumination On Internal And External Locus Of Control, Michael R. Sterling
Effects Of Rumination On Internal And External Locus Of Control, Michael R. Sterling
Theses and Dissertations
The primary goal of this study was to explore the relationship between rumination, locus of control, and depressive symptomology. The current project utilized a survey methodology, in which 54 undergraduate students were required to complete the Response Style Questionnaire (RSQ), the Rotter Locus of Control Scale (LOC), and the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II). Previous literature has not examined the relationship between rumination and locus of control. It was hypothesized that ruminative thought and external locus of control would be positively correlated. Correlations were run between the scores of each questionnaire, as well as gender of the participants. Results indicated …

Management As A Liberal Art (Chattanooga, Tn), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
Speaking at Covenant College, Pollard outlines his vision -- adopted from that of noted theorist Peter Drucker -- of management as a liberal art. In particular, he focuses on how corporate leadership cannot be oriented to simply utilitarian goals but must also consider the whole person physical, spiritual, and moral being.

When Second Comes First: Correcting Patent’S Poor Secondary Incentives Through An Optional Patent Purchase System, Jordan Barry
When Second Comes First: Correcting Patent’S Poor Secondary Incentives Through An Optional Patent Purchase System, Jordan Barry
ExpressO
As research has advanced, technologies have become more closely knit, and the relationships between them—both complementary and competitive—have become increasingly important. Unfortunately, the patent system’s use of monopoly power to reward innovators creates inefficient results by overly encouraging the development of substitute technologies and discouraging the development of complementary technologies. This paper explains how an optional patent purchase system could help ameliorate such problems and discusses the implications of such a system.

“Those Who Cannot Learn From History Are Doomed To Repeat It"/"Los Que No Pueden Aprender De La Historia Son Condenados Para Repetirla.", Gil Villagran
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
The early 1900s Spanish philosopher, Harvard graduate and professor George Santayana wisely coined this often quoted proverb: “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it,” as he reflected on World War I, the “war to end all wars;” a war of choice whose peace treaty led to World War II just 21 years later with twice the deaths at 50 million. Then came Korea, Vietnam, the killing fields of Cambodia, civil wars and death squads in Latin America, ethnic cleansing in the former Yugoslavia, a frenzy of ethnic killing in Rwanda, and countless brutalities in countless locations. …

Academic Librarians’ Views Of The Chair’S Professional Development Role, Dana W. R. Boden
Academic Librarians’ Views Of The Chair’S Professional Development Role, Dana W. R. Boden
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Faculty Publications
Chairs of teaching departments have been accepted as in a position to assist their faculty’s development. Perceptions of the chair’s role from the 29 faculty’s, the chair’s and higher administrators’ viewpoints, and across a variety of institutional settings, have been the subject of research for decades. This research expanded the small amount of similar research that has begun regarding department chairs in academic libraries. The academic library department chairs must act as more than managers and supervisors of personnel. Library faculty, like their teaching department counterparts, should be able to view their chair as interested in the development of their …
