Meaningful Self-Reporting Of Quality Of Life In People Living With Dementia, Julie Sullivan
Meaningful Self-Reporting Of Quality Of Life In People Living With Dementia, Julie Sullivan
Social Work Theses
The aim of this research study is to investigate the hypothesis that people living with dementia can comment meaningfully on their quality of life. A careful literature review revealed that “while it is generally agreed that any appraisal of quality of life should as far as possible rely on the individual’s own perspective, having people with dementia evaluate their own quality of life remains a much-debated issue” although the findings of many recent studies support the theory that people with dementia can evaluate their own quality of life (Cahill et al., 2004, p. 313). A 32-question questionnaire adapted from the …

Historical Analysis Of Gang Formation And Structure: Case Study Of The Gangster Disciples, Benjamin A. Wright
Historical Analysis Of Gang Formation And Structure: Case Study Of The Gangster Disciples, Benjamin A. Wright
Theses & Honors Papers
Gang members commit a disproportionate amount of crime, especially violent crime, in the United States. An estimated 3,340 homicides were committed by gangs in 1997 (Maxson, Curry, & Howell, 2002). Considering that the national homicide total was 18,210 on 1997 (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 1998), gangs were involved in 18% of homicides nationwide. In addition, the 1997 National Youth Gang Survey also estimated that 42% of youth gangs were involved in the distribution of illegal drugs (Maxson et al., 2002). As research has indicated, gangs and the reason people join gangs are a complex social phenomenon. Although we know more …

As the number of the world’s orphaned and abandoned children continues to increase, worry escalates among those concerned about their rights and welfare. Yet, people are finding some helpful solutions. This paper describes an international foundation called Half the Sky’s success in providing infant nurture and preschool enrichment programs, in partnership with Chinese national and provincial governments, through a coherent blend of cultural practices in curriculum and program operation. Both programs foster emotional intelligence and self-esteem, in a way that promotes peace education. Half the Sky opened two pilot programs in 2000 and today operates in 30 institutions in 12 …

Towards Redaction Of Digital Information From Electronic Devices, Gavin W. Manes, Lance Watson, David Greer, Alex Barclay, John Hale
Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law
In the discovery portion of court proceedings, it is necessary to produce information to opposing counsel. Traditionally, this information is in paper form with all privileged information removed. Increasingly, the information requested during discovery exists in digital form and savvy counsel is requesting direct access to the original digital source: a broad spectrum of additional digital information can be often be extracted using digital forensics. This paper describes the major problems which must be solved to redact digital information from electronic devices. The primary hurdle facing digital redaction is the lack of a rational process for systematically handling encoded, encrypted, …

Do Current Erasure Programs Remove Evidence Of Bittorrent Activity?, Andrew Woodward, Craig Valli
Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law
This research in progress aims to evaluate the effectiveness of commercial programs to erase traces of the use of BitTorrent software. The erasure programs MaxErase, P2PDoctor, Privacy Suite, Window Washer and R-Clean and Wipe were used on a machine that had used the BitTorrent client Azureus to download two torrent files. The drive was imaged and then searched for torrent files. The registry was also examined on the source machine. The program R-Clean and Wipe left evidence in both the registry and the image of the name and type of files that had been downloaded with this software. Of greater …
Fishbowls In The Field: Using Listening To Join Farmers, Ranchers, And Educations In Advancing Sustainable Agricultue, Elaine E. Cranford, Julie Kleinschmit
Fishbowls In The Field: Using Listening To Join Farmers, Ranchers, And Educations In Advancing Sustainable Agricultue, Elaine E. Cranford, Julie Kleinschmit
Publications from the Center for Applied Rural Innovation (CARI)
From 1992 to 2005, 586 research and development grants were awarded to farmers and ranchers in the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program’s North Central Region (NCR SARE). Two hundred were granted in the states of Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, alone. Farm/ranch research ideas for crop and animal production, processing, and marketing were innovations in their communities and regions. They were also relevant to farmers’ and ranchers’ day-to-day lives, questions to which they needed answers, in part because the information was not accessible through traditional agricultural education means.
These farmer/rancher researchers learned a great deal from their …

The Case For Teaching Network Protocols To Computer Forensics Examiners, Gary C. Kessler, Matt Fasulo
The Case For Teaching Network Protocols To Computer Forensics Examiners, Gary C. Kessler, Matt Fasulo
Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law
Most computer forensics experts are well-versed in basic computer hardware technology, operating systems, common software applications, and computer forensics tools. And while many have rudimentary knowledge about the Internet and simple network-lookup tools, they are not trained in the analysis of network communication protocols and the use of packet sniffers. This paper describes digital forensics applications for network analysis and includes four case studies.
Keywords: computer forensics education, network forensics, protocol analysis

The juvenile justice system has been criticized for its inability to curb the trend of juvenile crime and its continued ignorance to the valuable resources of community-based rehabilitation and treatment programs. The goal of this research paper is to discover new solutions to the structural shortcomings of the juvenile justice system and present my findings on the reasons for its contradictive structure and practices.

Textbooks For Computer Forensic Courses: A Preliminary Study, Jigang Liu, Larry Gottschalk, Kuodi Jian
Textbooks For Computer Forensic Courses: A Preliminary Study, Jigang Liu, Larry Gottschalk, Kuodi Jian
Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law
As computer forensics develops into one of the fastest-growing areas in the computer related fields, many universities and colleges are offering or are planning to offer a course in computer forensics. When instructors begin to develop a new course in the area, one of critical questions they would ask is what textbook should be used. To better answer the question, we conducted a study in which we tried to find which textbooks are being used in computer forensic courses. We believe that the results and analysis of our study will help instructors in choosing adequate textbooks for their new course …
Despair Disguised As Entertainment: Does Oprah Winfrey Sensationalize Human Suffering In Order To Fuel Her Media Empire And Encourage Other Media To Follow?, Alana D. Cullen
Pell Scholars and Senior Theses
These papers describe position of a popular medial star Oprah Winfey and her influence for today’s culture and tries to show all the points of view on the problematic of her controversial TV show program and all the business around her. The Oprah Winfrey Show is about a certain form of social suffering that originates in the family and that is articulated from the experience and viewpoint of women inside the family. Ironically, while western photojournalism and the evening news regularly import nonwestern images of war, famine, and natural disasters, The Oprah Winfrey Show represents the first television genre that …
