CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In her paper "National Conflict and Narrative Possibility in Faulkner and Garro" Kristin E. Pitt explores two twentieth-century narratives of the Americas set during and after civil war. Both William Faulkner's Absalom, Absalom! and Elena Garro's Los recuerdos del porvenir suggest that the historical narratives of the national community which have been celebrated by the U.S. South and Mexico have resulted in untenable contemporary social systems. Seizing the opportunity presented by national crisis, the central female characters of both novels attempt to rewrite the narratives of their imagined communities and reinscribe themselves within these revisions, doing so primarily by renegotiating …

Most media reports, editorials, commentators and talk show experts vehemently assert that growth in Pakistanis consumption led and fuelled by bank credit. If they are right then the latest data available is indeed very intriguing. Gross fixed capital formation during 2005-06 was Rs.1.42 trillion – an increase of 30.7 % over last year. This was over and above an increase of 28.6 % recorded in 2004-05. In constant price terms (after adjusting for inflation) this translated into real growth rates of 10.3 % and 9.3 % respectively. Interactive video technology has become a widely used medium for education. A prominent implementation of this technology, interactive distance learning, involves groups of students at local and remote sites connected by audio and video teleconferencing. This approach has made the task of delivering vital undergraduate and graduate engineering courses to distributed audiences much easier. As this approach has permeated more curricula, distance education instructors have increasingly assigned projects that require distance learners to work together as an element of the final course grade. This report is submitted June 16, 2006 to the Purdue University Writing Lab, specifically to Linda Bergmann, Director; Tammy Conard-Salvo, Associate Director; and Karl Stolley, Lead Web Designer.
